2 Operation Inspection Before the following procedure is carried out, the ensuing warning and precautions must be observed: For the operation inspection of the DTI Guardian Safety System (DTI System) the certified technician will need to test the unit by using the dash controller provided (generally installed in the cab of the unit). Begin by disconnecting the power from the Valve Control Unit (VCU). Then, in order to test the DTI System press and hold the Stop button until the red light, located in the middle of the dash controller, turns on (see images below). The red light indicates the state of the unit to the certified technician; when the light is turned on the valve is either closed or has been disconnected from the valve cable, if this is the case the inspection will continue otherwise please refer to the troubleshooting guide located at the end of this document. Once the red light is on, press the Run button and the valve will be back to its open position.

At this point the truck will shut down. Push the Open button to re-open the valve. The VCU will automatically reset to the original High REV Shutdown RPM configuration. If the RPM test is not shutting down the unit, check the RPM cable and the RPM sensor for damaged cables or disconnections.

The main reason for this inspection is to ensure the future operation of the unit and to prevent the possible malfunction of the DTI System.

5 Visual Inspection Before the following procedure is carried out, the ensuing warning and precautions must be observed After the operation inspection has been carried out, the visual inspection will require the technician to check the condition of the cables for the DTI Guardian Safety System. The main reason for this inspection is to ensure the future operation of the unit and to prevent the possible malfunction of the DTI System. First, visually check for any broken wires, chafing, sharp corners, moving parts or burned cables. If any of the cables appear to be damaged they will need to be replaced, if they appear in good condition continue with the inspection. In order to determine the integrity of the cable connection you will require needle nose pliers. Using the pliers, pull on the valve cable and the valve cable connector by gently trying to pull out the cables to the opposite direction of the connector. If any of the cables come loose they will need to be replaced.

6 The last cable to be completed is the RPM cable located from the firewall to the bottom of the flywheel housing. Once again check for broken cables, burns and moving parts that may cause damage. If there are no problems to address continue with the inspection.

Check Clamps To ensure there are no air leaks on the hoses that connect the DTI Guardian Safety System to the unit and to certify the effectiveness of both the shutdown valve and the engine, it is

When the system is installed by a certified technician they should mark the clamps with a vertical line, which lies in between the bolt and the clamp, this is to ensure the continuous position and torque of the clamp. Re-torque to a 144 inch lbs. or 12 lbs. Re-torque to a 144 inch lbs. or 12 lb.

Check the Hoses The DTI Guardian Safety System is installed using a performance based silicone 4 ply reinforced material to ensure the proper functioning of the system.

To keep the system in optimal function check the hose for punctures or cuts which may cause air leaks and possibly reduce the engine s pressure. If there are any signs of holes or cracks replace at your convenience and Retorque to 144 inch lbs. or 12 lbs.

9 Inspect Valve O-Ring The DTI Guardian Safety System uses a Viton TMO ring to seal the outside of the butterfly. To proceed with this part of the inspection, remove the DTI Guardian Safety System from the hoses and visually examine for any wear or possible damage which may compromise the integrity of the seal; this would allow air to seep through. If there are any signs of damage the valve will need to be replaced. Updating the Valve At DTI our priority is safety. That is why DTI has designed a program to recondition the valve without having any downtime. Once the operator or certified technician has noticed any signs of damage, the valve will need to be reconditioned; past this period we suggest having the unit replaced with a fully reconditioned valve unit. DTI allows these to be pre-ordered so there is no downtime with the exchange of valves.
