2 Key KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM The system includes one retractable key fob which remotely locks and unlocks the doors and liftgate. Release Button Push to extend key. Push & fold to retract key. Lock Push once to lock all doors and liftgate. Push twice (within five seconds) for horn sound verification that all doors are locked. Unlock Push once to unlock driver s door. Push twice (within five seconds) to unlock all doors and liftgate. Retractable Key Panic Alarm Push for one second or more to activate alarm. Push lock, unlock, or panic alarm to turn alarm off. NOTE: Leaving the key in the ignition or vehicle and pushing the lock switch will lock the doors with the key in the vehicle unless a door or the liftgate is left open. LIFTGATE To open, push the liftgate button and raise the liftgate. To close, push liftgate down until it securely locks, but do not slam. NOTE: When the liftgate opener switch is pushed, the liftgate will open slightly. If the liftgate is not opened within 1.5 seconds, the liftgate latch locks (you will hear it lock) and the liftgate cannot be opened or closed from this slightly raised position. To open/close the liftgate, push the liftgate opener switch, open the liftgate within 1.5 seconds, then close it. The door/liftgate ajar warning light will be on if the liftgate is not fully closed. 1 Open the trunk/liftgate by pushing the electric trunk lid/liftgate opener switch when ignition is OFF. 3 Seats MANUAL SEAT CONTROLS Height Adjustment Lever Raise or lower seat height by repeatedly pulling up or pushing down on the lever. Recline Lever Pull up to adjust seatback angle. Slide Release Lever Pull lever up to move seat backward or forward. FOLDING SECOND-ROW SEATS To increase cargo space, fold down one or both second-row seats. 1 Lower the head restraints all the way down. 2 Support the seatback with your hand. 3 Push the rear seatback knob down (red indicator is visible when seat is in the unlocked position). 4 Bring the seatback forward. 5 Secure the rear seat belt in the belt clip. RETURNING SECOND-ROW SEATS TO UPRIGHT POSITION 1 Verify that the seat belt is secured in the belt clip. 2 Raise seatbacks until they lock into position (red indicator is not visible when seat is in the locked position). NOTE: Make sure that seat belt is routed in front of the seat as shown. 3 Pull on the top of the seatbacks from inside the vehicle to make sure they are locked. 4 Check that all seat belts are routed properly for passenger use. 2
4 Driver s View Power Mirrors (P. 11) LIGHTING/TURN SIGNALS (P. 7) DSC Power windows (P. 11) AUDIO CONTROLS (PP ) 3 1 This indicator light illuminates to remind you that the front passenger s front/side airbags and seat belt pretensioner will not deploy during a collision. The reason for this is that the weight in the seat is less than approximately 66 lb. Always wear your seat belt and secure children in the rear seats in appropriate child restraints. See the Owner s Manual for important information on this safety feature.

Flashing: TPMS Malfunction Turn Signals/Hazard Warning Indicator Lights Power Steering Malfunction Low Washer Fluid Level Warning Light Headlight High Beams On OFF Brake Warning Light Parking brake on/low brake fluid/malfunction Malfunction Warning Light Check Engine Light Security Indicator Light ABS (Antilock Brake System) Malfunction Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System Malfunction Low Engine Oil Pressure Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)/Traction Control System (TCS) Off Indicator Light DSC OFF switch pushed and TCS/DSC turned off. Charging System Malfunction 1 When the headlight switch is in the or position, rotate the knob to adjust the brightness of the dashboard lights.
7 FUEL GAUGE: If the lowest scale mark and the E is flashing, this indicates the fuel level is low. Refuel as soon as possible. If only the E is flashing, this indicates the fuel tank is nearly empty. Refuel immediately. Odometer/ TRIP METER selector 2 Fuel gauge ODOMETER/ TRIP METER SHIFT LEVER POSITION INDICATOR (Automatic Transmission only) O/D OFF Door/Liftgate Ajar Driver Seat Belt Unbuckled/Malfunction Shift Position Indicator Light (Automatic Transmission only) Overdrive Cancel Indicator Illuminates when overdrive is off. Cruise Main Indicator Light On (Amber)/ Cruise Set Indicator Light On (Green) NOTE: Cruise control will cancel if speed drops 9 mph below set speed. This may happen when cruising on a steep upgrade. Engine Coolant Temp Lights Since this vehicle does not use an engine coolant temperature gauge, red and blue engine coolant temperature lights are used to indicate high and low coolant temperature. Red Coolant Temp Light Flashing: Engine is starting to run hot. Drive slowly to reduce engine load. On: Engine is overheating. Safely pull over to the side of the road and turn the engine off. Refer to the Owner s Manual for more information. Blue Coolant Temp Light On: Engine coolant is cold and no warm air is available for heater/defroster. Off: Engine coolant is warm and warm air is available for heater/defroster. The light may stay on for a few minutes after start-up when the engine is cold, but the vehicle can be driven with the light on or off. 2 Push to toggle between odometer and trip meter (A & B). When a trip meter is selected, push and hold to reset to zero. NOTE: Low ambient temperature and or high altitude causes tire pressures to drop and may turn the TPMS warning light on. If the warning light comes on, check the tire pressure and fill the tires as soon as possible, preferably before moving the vehicle and warming up the tires. Tire pressure should be checked when the tires are cold. 6
8 Lights LIGHTING CONTROL/TURN SIGNAL LEVER : Turns tail, parking, and dashboard lights on. : Turns fog lights on only when headlights are on. (Optional) Push for High Beams Pull to Flash High Beams : Turns tail, parking, dashboard, and headlights on. ALUMINUM WHEEL CARE Your aluminum wheels have a protective coating on them. Only use a mild soap or neutral detergent with a sponge or soft cloth to clean them. 7 CAUTION: Using a wire brush, polishing compound, solvent, or any type of abrasive cleaner may damage the protective coating.
9 Wipers WINDSHIELD/REAR WINDOW WIPER/WASHER CONTROL LEVER MIST OFF 1 INT 2 LO Pull lever to dispense windshield washer fluid 3 HI Rear Window Wiper/Washer ON: Normal speed : Washer/wiper (hold as desired) Genuine Mazda Accessory Wheel Locks are available at your Authorized Mazda Dealer. 8
10 Transmission AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION The gearshift must be in Park or Neutral to start the engine and must be in Park to remove the ignition key. D (Overdrive) This is the normal driving position for the best fuel economy. The transmission shifts through all forward gears. D (Overdrive Cancel) Push the overdrive switch on the gearshift to engage/disengage overdrive. The indicator illuminates when overdrive is off. This feature is useful when going down a steep grade and in stop and go traffic. Refer to the Owner s Manual for complete details. Rear Door Child Safety Locks These locks help prevent children from accidentally opening the rear doors. Use both whenever a child rides in the vehicle. With child safety locks in the locked position, the door can only be opened by pulling the outside handle. 11 Audio PORTABLE AUDIO PLAYER INTEGRATION USING THE AUX JACK Your vehicle is equipped with an AUX or auxiliary jack that will allow you to play your portable audio player through the vehicle s audio system. Learn the system when parked and do not let it distract you while driving. NOTE: You will need an audio cable with an 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) mini stereo plug (available as a Genuine Mazda accessory) to connect your portable audio player into the aux jack. AUX Jack Refer to the Owner s Manual for additional information. 1 Locate the AUX jack on the center console. 2 Plug 1/8 inch mini stereo plug into the portable audio player and into the AUX jack. Turn portable audio player on. 3 Turn the vehicle audio system on. 4 Push the USB/AUX button on the audio unit or the MODE button on the steering wheel controls to switch to the AUX mode. 5 Use the portable audio player controls to play music. IMPORTANT: Set the volume level on your portable audio player to the highest level before distortion starts, then use the vehicle s audio system to adjust the volume. PORTABLE AUDIO PLAYER INTEGRATION USING THE USB PORT Your vehicle is equipped with a USB port that will allow you to play your USB device or portable audio player through the vehicle s audio system. Learn the system when parked and do not let it distract you while driving. Refer to the Owner s Manual for additional information. 1 Locate the USB port on the USB Port center console. 2 Connect the device plug into the portable audio player and into the USB port. 3 Turn the vehicle audio system on. 4 Push the USB/AUX button on the audio unit or the MODE button on the steering wheel controls to switch to the USB mode and start playback. NOTE: Do not remove the ipod while in the ipod mode. Otherwise, the data could be damaged. 5 Use the vehicle s audio system or steering wheel controls to control the USB device connected. NOTE: The ipod functions on the ipod cannot be operated while it is connected to the vehicle s audio system because it controls the ipod functions. 10
12 Windows POWER MIRROR ADJUSTMENT 1 Place ignition switch in the ACC or ON position. 2 Push the selector switch to L for driver side or R for passenger side mirror adjustment. 3 Push the mirror switch in the desired direction. 4 Move selector switch to the center position to deactivate. Mirror Switch Selector Switch POWER WINDOWS 11 Driver Auto-Opening/Closing To fully open the window automatically, push the switch down completely, then release. To fully close the window automatically, pull the switch up completely, then release. To stop the window partway, pull or push the switch in the opposite direction and then release. Power Window Lock Switch With the lock switch in the unlocked position (button not depressed), all power windows on each door can be operated. With the lock switch in the locked position (button depressed), only the driver s side power window can be operated. Window Switches
13 Mirrors MECHANICAL-DIMMING MIRROR Reduce headlight glare from the vehicles behind you by pulling the lever forward. Push the lever backward for day time driving. Day/Night Lever Day Night Door Lock Switch To lock or unlock all doors and liftgate with the door-lock switch: Push lock side of switch to lock. Push unlock side of switch to unlock. NOTE: Leaving the key in the ignition or vehicle and pushing the lock switch will lock the key in the vehicle unless a door or the liftgate is left open. Laying objects such as a purse on top of Door Lock Switch may accidently lock the doors with key inside. Cup Holders This vehicle is equipped to hold up to five drinks. Use the center console divider to place a cup or canned drink on the center console tray. Genuine Mazda Accessory Center Armrest is available at your Authorized Mazda Dealer. 12
14 Fuel Fuel Door Release (located on floor in front of driver s seat) To open, pull the fuel door release. Fuel Door Release Fuel Regular Unleaded Fuel 87 Octane Fuel Door To avoid scratching the paint during refueling, secure the fuel filler cap tether over the hook as shown. Hook BREAK-IN PERIOD No special break-in is necessary, but a few precautions in the first 600 miles should be observed. Do not race the engine. Do not maintain one constant speed, either slow or fast, for a long period of time. Avoid full-throttle starts. Avoid unnecessary hard stops. Do not drive constantly at fullthrottle or high engine rpm for extended periods of time. FUEL ECONOMY: To achieve the best fuel economy, visit for more information. 13 Luggage Compartment Light Push switch down to the ON position to allow automatic cargo light illumination when the liftgate is open. Push switch up to the OFF position to cancel automatic cargo light illumination. Switch
15 Manual Climate Control When selecting defrost, move recirc/fresh switch to Fresh, and turn A/C on for defogging windows. Temperature Control Dial Rotate the dial for temperature control. Push to defrost the rear window. Fan Control Dial Rotate the dial to set desired fan speed (1-4). Move lever to the left to recirculate cabin air to reduce outside odors and improve cooling. Mode Selector Dial Rotate the dial to select airflow mode. Dashboard vents Dashboard and floor vents Move lever to the right The heater and Floor vents to receive fresh air. defroster work Use this setting when Defroster and best when the defroster and/or floor vents blue coolant defroster and floor Windshield temperature vents are selected. defroster light in the instrument cluster is off. NOTE: The recirculated air position should be used only when driving on dusty roads or for quick cooling of the interior. Push to manually turn air conditioning on or off. 16 Audio Controls Setting your clock With ignition in ACC or ON position, push and hold CLOCK button until beep is heard, clock starts flashing and ADJ appears. Use H to move hour forward. Use M to move minute forward. When desired time is reached, push CLOCK button to set. 15 POWER On Push the Power/Volume dial to turn the audio system on. Media Selection Radio: Push FM/AM button to select the FM1, FM2 or AM band. The selected band will be displayed. CD: With CD loaded, push the CD/ AUX button until CD mode appears. Auxiliary Input: With portable audio player connected to AUX IN or USB Port, push the CD/USB/AUX button until AUX mode or USB mode appears. Tuning The radio has the following tuning controls: Manual: Push TUNE/TRACK button to manually change the frequency. Seek: Push and hold the TUNE/TRACK tuning buttons to automatically seek a higher or lower frequency with a station. Scan: Push the SCAN button to automatically sample strong stations for seconds each. Push again to cancel. Preset Channel: Push the Preset Channel buttons (1-6) to select a station stored in memory. To store a station, push and hold a button (1-6) until a beep is heard. Auto Memory Tuning : Push and hold the AUTO-M/ CAT button to store an additional 6 stations on each FM and AM band without disturbing the previously stored stations. This is especially useful when driving in an area where the local stations are not known. Push and release the AUTO-M/CAT button to recall auto-stored stations. Refer to the Owner s Manual for complete details. To return to the previously stored stations, push the FM or AM button. Loading a CD Single CD Player Insert CD, label-side up.
17 CD SLOT NOTE: Push the MODE button to change between FM1, FM2, AM, CD, USB, and AUX. MUTE SEEK BUTTONS Radio Mode: Push for next lower stored station. Push for next higher stored station. / Push and hold either button to seek all stations. CD Mode: Push to repeat current track. Push to advance to next track. PLAYING A CD Push CD button to select CD player. P u s h FLDR (Folder) button to select a folder (MP3/WMA). Push TUNE/TRACK button to select a track. ANTENNA Remove 30 Install MENU: Push MENU to display options. RPT RDM ALC OFF BASS TREB FADE BAL BEEP ON 12Hr 24Hr When using the radio, move the antenna to the UP position (approximately 30 degrees). To remove the antenna, turn it counterclockwise. To install the antenna, turn it clockwise. Make sure the antenna is securely installed. NOTE: To ensure the best possible radio reception be sure the antenna is in the up position. Remove antenna before using a car wash facility, entering a garage or other low clearance area. When removing snow from the roof be careful around the antenna. 16
