5 BIOLOGICAL SAFETY CABINET Installation and Operations Manual Revision: 17-May-16 Page 5 of INSTALLATION CONDITIONS AND USING ENVIRONMENT To avoid disturbances to the safety cabinet and its operator, follow the following guidelines while determining a suitable location for the cabinet: a. The distance from the plane of the aperture to any circulation space should be at least 1000 mm, so as to preserve a zone undisturbed by anyone other than the operator. b. Biological Safety Cabinets should be placed in a position where there should be no opposing wall (or other obstruction likely to affect the airflow) within 2000 mm of the front aperture. c. Safety cabinets should not be installed in positions where they are likely to be affected by other items or equipment. In particular the distance to the aperture of an opposing safety cabinet, fume cupboard, or the edge of a local exhaust ventilation outlet should not be less than 3000 mm. d. Any room air supply diffuser should not be within 1500 mm of the front aperture. e. Doorways should not be within 1500 mm of the aperture or within 1000 mm of the side of the safety cabinet. f. The position of a safety cabinet should satisfy the spatial requirements (e.g. vision, lighting and convenience of access) of the operator and personnel working nearby. When a cabinet is installed on a bench top, the leading edge should be flush with or slightly overhanging the edge of the bench top. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 1. Only suitable for indoor use; 2. Ambient temperature: 15 C~ 35 C; 3. Relative Humidity: 75%; 4. Atmospheric pressure range: 70 kpa~i06 kpa; 5. Electrical parameters: Consistent with the rated voltage of the biosafety cabinet (See Technical Parameters and Performance Index); 6. Power supply needs to have good grounding and preferably operate on its own circuit; 7. Test the voltage stability before using: If the voltage is unstable, the voltage regulator should be used, otherwise the control panel and transformer may be easily damaged. The cabinet must be located in an area protected from air currents that originate from ventilation systems, air conditioners, doors, windows, and personnel movement. Tests have shown that if the drafts or other disruptive currents exceed the intake velocity of the cabinet, then room contamination may enter the sterile cabinet work zone and vice versa. Thus, the proper placement of cabinets in laboratories or work areas is essential. Attention should be paid to the relationship between the cabinet exhaust air discharged from the top of the unit and any room ventilation air inlets or exhaust louvres. Any location which might contribute to the restriction of cabinet exhaust quantity must be avoided. If possible, allow about 6 inches (152 mm) clearance on all sides of the cabinet for inspection purposes. Particular care must be taken with the electrical connections. Each Biological Safety Cabinet must be on its own dedicated circuit and plugged directly into the receptacle. Under no circumstances should an extension cord be used, or the existing electrical cord be modified without consulting the factory. The Biological Safety Cabinet is designed for continuous operation and all electrical circuits and motors are fully protected. If ground fault interrupters are required, we suggest that the duplex outlet into which the unit is plugged be converted to a ground fault interrupter circuit. This is easily carried out at the duplex electrical outlet itself or at the circuit breaker in the electrical control panel. NOTE: Refer to current National Sanitation Foundation Standard No. 49 for recommendations regarding suitable locations for a Biological Safety Cabinet.

First, plug in the Biological Safety Cabinet to a dedicated power supply to a grounded power outlet (115V 15A). Power consumption is 9.0 A. It is strongly recommended that the Biological Safety Cabinet is the only equipment on this circuit. See the electrical requirements data on the equipment ID label. Push main power button on front panel to turn unit on. Checking Items Air speed display Fluorescent light UV light Display screen buttons Outlet Normal situation Inflow 0.53+/-0.025m/s, (65fpm +/- 5fpm) Down flow 0.33+/-0.025m/s, (105fpm +/- 5fpm) Bulb lights after pressing button UV bulb lights after pressing button, sash must be closed to allow function to operate All buttons can be used Press the Outlet button, test output with multi-meter. 2. Push fan power button. Soft start fan will take time in order to achieve the required speed. This is in order to prevent too much current. The fans need a delay of about sec in order to achieve full speed before the motor is running at a set speed. Similarly, the fans also need sec delay to stop. Stable voltage is provided by built-in voltage regulator circuit for the motor blower, thus eliminating air fluctuations. Keep this in mind! Power shut down before the fan turns off. 3. Press the light button on control panel to tum on the lights. If the lamp is not working please check lamp-tube or socket, as it may have come loose between the lamp and lamp holder during the delivery process. 4. Press UV button on the control panel to turn on the UV lamp and to check whether UV light is working properly. Note: When the sash is opened, ultraviolet light will not work. 5. Press duplex button on the Control Panel to check the safety cabinet's internal power socket. If the safety cabinet is equipped with two sockets, one button controls both of them Installation Before packing and transportation, the Biological Safety Cabinet has been tested in conformance with NSF standards in our factories, but additional on-site tests must be performed. Only qualified Certification Technicians can make any adjustments in order to ensure the accuracy of the on-site testing, test equipment must be calibrated. Please contact the manufacturer to provide names of local certification companies. On-site testing should include at least the following: Leak testing of supply and exhaust HEPA filters using an aerosol generator and calibrated photometer. Check the safety cabinet's inflow and supply velocities. Check airflow inside the cabinet by using smoke simulator; When the cabinet is connected to building exhaust system, balance the exhaust system.

11 BIOLOGICAL SAFETY CABINET Installation and Operations Manual Revision: 17-May-16 Page 11 of 31 Contact your safety committee to provide an on-site inspection as per NSF F.7; the equipment should not be used without this pre-inspection. Do not adjust the fan speed in the absence of fully qualified technician. If the manufacturer has already set the correct air flow, generally it does not require further adjustments Test and standard 1. Filter leakage test: as per NSF F.5 The standard aerosol tests will confirm the integrity of the HEPA filters, generally tested at least annually. Qualified personnel must use calibrated device when aerosol testing. 2. Air adjustment of the opening of the work area: as per NSF F.3 The exhaust HEPA filter is installed on the top of the Biological Safety Cabinet. The air volume exhausted is equal to the air volume entering from the working opening. The average velocity entering the opening of the work area has been listed and outlined as in NSF-49. For the opening air velocity testing data, see APPENDIX 1. To adjust the fan speed, adjustment should be according to the data specified in APPENDIX 1. To set the air velocity of the opening work area correctly. We emphasis again that only qualified technicians using calibrated equipment should be allowed to carry out the adjustments. If there is some difficulties please contact the manufacturer. Note: the adjustments must be made in conjunction with the down flow air velocity as indicated in APPENDIX 1 and it is necessary to have a balance test between them Inflow velocity measuring method: as per NSF F Adjust the sash opening to 4 and use two rows of points in the plane of the nominal access opening. The top row is 50 mm (1.97") down from the top of the opening. The bottom row is 50 mm (1.97") up from the bottom of the opening. Spacing begins 102 mm (4") from the side walls with mm (3.6") between points. The armrest remains in place during the test. Measurements are to the center of the white sensing element. The anemometer is positioned vertically, taped to the outside of the sash. The average data is the inflow velocity. Using Direct inflow measurement: as per NSF F Seal by taping the device to the center of the front opening, seal the open areas on either side of the capture hood portion of the DIM as necessary. Take at least five readings and average them to determine inflow volume rate. Care should be taking not to restrict the airflow through the instrument intake. Calculate the average inflow in cubic feet per minute (cubic metres per second) by the work access opening area to provide the inflow velocity in FPM or (M/S). These calculations have already been documented and are shown in the test sheets provided. 3. Downflow air velocity: as per NSF F.2 The airflows should be balanced and generally no further adjustment is required. However when the HEPA filter is blocked the readings on the static pressure monitor increases (located on the control panel). The fan speed needs to be adjusted so that it can maintain the correct air velocity within the working chamber. Balancing can control the exhaust and inflow air ratio by adjusting the exhaust damper position to correct the

12 BIOLOGICAL SAFETY CABINET Installation and Operations Manual Revision: 17-May-16 Page 12 of 31 air split. The setting is done in the factory and generally needs no adjustment. For the correct settings and the test data, please refer to APPENDIX 1. NOTE: Adjusting the balance of the air velocity should be carried out by qualified personnel only. Down flow velocity measuring method: The testing point is from the work area 4 (1OOmm) up from the top of the sash opening in the plane of the normal access opening. Spacing begins mm from the side walls and front glass opening with equally spaced position between points, a square grid front to back 5.12 (130mm) X left to right 5.32 (135inm), the average data from 24 points is the Down flow velocity. 2.
