3 Market Situation Metering Mobility is an unbreakable trend mostly driven by convenience and hunger for information Mobile devices allow for simple patient monitoring while increasing life quality Smart Metering enables flexible control of power needs through simple consumer interaction Building technologies support a flexible adjustment to life style and yet support reduce overall power consumption Most of the latest DC-DC Converters reach efficiencies greater 90% and so other approaches are needed to reduce power consumption or extend application run time. Some applications are challenged to guarantee an operating life through one battery of up to 10 years Building Technologies BT Accessories Sports gear Portable Medical Smart Phone
4 Why was the part developed? Applications using low-power RF devices that run on a battery have been burning more energy than necessary. One approach to solve the problem: One approach to avoid additional energy loss is to connect the battery to the load without any additional voltage regulation, which adds cost and space. The load itself is still burning more energy than needed while operating directly from the battery. This is because the minimum supply voltage of these devices is already close to the level of a discharged battery every input voltage about that level is a waste. Not a solution to the problem. 9 Product overview TPS62730 is a high frequency synchronous step-down DC/DC converter optimized for ultra low-power wireless applications, such as TI s low power wireless sub 1-GHz and 2.4 GHz RF transceivers. The device reduces the current consumption drawn from the battery during TX and RX mode by high-efficient step-down voltage conversion. Applications include: Bluetooth low energy systems Metering Building technologies Mobile phones Consumer electronics Medical and human interface devices 9
