1 EG21 and EGS21 Series Electric Gage and SWICHGAGE Installation For Pressure,, Fuel Level, Voltmeter and Ammeter Patents , and CAUTION IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL EG21 ELECTRIC GAGES AND EGS21 ELECTRIC SWICHGAGE S FOR 24VDC AND 32VDC APPLICATIONS A change in the dial illumination circuit has made it necessary to change the external wiring harness. If you use the incorrect wiring harness, irreparable damage will occur to the gage mechanism. The table below lists correct wire harness assemblies for units by manufacturing date. For date code R1 (January 1996) or earlier (Q12, Q11, etc.) the wire harness can be identified by P/N and by BLACK shrink tubing on the YELLOW wire. For date code R2 (February 1996) and later (R3, R4, etc.) the wire harness can be identified by P/N and by RED shrink tubing on the YELLOW wire. Pressure If sealant tape or pipe dope is used on the pressure sender, be sure that the tape or dope does not plug the sender s orifice. CAUTION: Connecting full potential to the brown wire can damage the SWICHGAGE. Shutdown circuit is rated for 300 ma continuous, 900 ma inrush. Circuit grounds out at set point. Alarm Device or Shutdown Relay OBSERVE ELECTRICAL RATING Brown CAUTION: Devices containing solid state components can be damaged or caused to malfunction when used in systems which incorporate inductive loads (e.g. relays, solenoids, etc.) that can generate voltage spikes. To reduce the potential for this type of damage, install a flyback or clamping diode across all inductive loads (see wiring diagram shown right). Use Murphy diode package or equivalent. A typical diode is 1N4005 which is readily available from commercial sources. Failures of this type are not covered by our Limited Warranty. This limited warranty is for a period of two years except, items manufactured by others but sold by Murphy carry the original manufacturer s warranty. Any unit suspected of a quality flaw, verified by Murphy, will be either repaired or replaced, at our or the manufacturer s option, when returned to our factory, transportation charges paid. If a customer is requesting on-site service assistance for a MURPHYMATIC control system, we will engage the proper resources to repair, adjust or replace the MURPHYMATIC control system in accordance with our Service Philosophy and Limited Warranty. EN-97036B Revised Catalog Section 70 ( ) Four-Function Annunciator TATTLETALE EN204 Series Designed for Use with Electric SWICHGAGE s or Normally Open, Close to Negative Contacts LED Annunciation for Low, High Water, Loss of Voltage, and Low Fuel Level or Glow Plug. Output may be used for Tripping an Electromagnetic Control for Engine Shutdown Developed with the Same Leading Edge Technology as Our EGS Series Electric SWICHGAGE Description Murphy s EN204 Annunciator TATTLE- TALE works with other engine components to clearly indicate critical engine operating conditions. The four bright LEDs on the face of the Annunciator indicate the cause of an alarm or shutdown condition. Two EN204 models are available. Each shows the standard critical engine operating parameters oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery voltage. Model EN204-S- 12 also includes an indicator for low fuel level. Model EN204-SG-12 substitutes the fuel level indicator with a glow plug indicator for those engines that use a glow plug for easier starting. The EN204 Annunciators are used in conjunction with Murphy Electric SWICH- GAGE s or other normally open switches that close to ground when a fault condition occurs. As an example, in a system with a Murphy EGS21P-100 SWICH- GAGE, the SWICHGAGE closes to ground when the oil pressure drops below a pre-determined set point. This will energize the LED on the EN204 to highlight a low oil pressure failure. A very important feature of the EN204 is the ability to interface with Murphy 518PH or the 760A Electromagnetic es to perform automatic engine shutdown when fault conditions occur. The EN204 can also be used with other Murphy visual and audible alarms (STAS series remote alarm, SAH audible alarm, and the TL7 visual alarm) for remote annunciation and equipment shutdown. 5 Testing A Panel with EGS SWICHGAGES IDHP-02028N Revised ; Section 65 ( ) 1. Connect the Sending unit terminals together with a jumper wire. See illustration, at right. (If using a one wire sender, connect the terminal to ground, or to engine frame.) 2. Turn on the Key. The EGS21P SWICHGAGE should go full scale. 3. Reset the Shutdown Relay. The relay should stay reset, and the red reset button should stay in. NOTE: If the Shutdown Relay does NOT reset, disconnect the Electrical Plug from the rear of the EGS21T SWICHGAGE and try again. If the Shutdown Relay will not reset, disconnect the EGS21P SWICHGAGE. The Shutdown Relay should now reset. If it did, replace the EGS21P SWICHGAGE. Reconnect the Electrical Plug to the rear of the EGS21T SWICHGAGE. If this causes the Shutdown Relay to trip -- red button pops out--replace the EGS21T SWICHGAGE. 4. Temporarily remove the jumper wire from the EGS21P Sending unit terminals. The Gage should go to zero, and trip the Shutdown Relay -- red button pops out. Reconnect the jumper to the Sending unit terminals. NOTE: If the EGS21P SWICHGAGE does not trip the Shutdown Relay, replace the EGS21P SWICHGAGE, and repeat steps 2, 3 and Reset the Shutdown Relay. The Relay should stay reset, and the red reset button should stay in. 6. Temporarily jumper the Sending unit terminals together (short) with a piece of wire. See illustration, at right. (If one wire sender, short the terminal to ground or engine frame.) The EGS21T SWICHGAGE should go full scale, and trip the Shutdown Relay -- red button pops out. NOTE: If the EGS21T SWICHGAGE does not trip the Shutdown Relay, replace the EGS21T SWICHGAGE, and repeat steps 5 and 6.
