1 Dear Customer, Skyjack policy is to fully support all service bulletins for 5 years from the original date of issue. The attached service Bulletin was originally released to all owners of these units more than 5 years ago. We do continue to encourage our customer to complete any and all outstanding bulletins, but Skyjack will no longer be responsible for any costs incurred. The requisite components to complete this bulletin may be obsolete and need to be sourced outside our standard supply chain. These parts may not be available at former list pricing. Further, some components may no longer be available by any means. In the case of safety related service bulletins, the absence of proper components could lead to Skyjack recommending that the unit be permanently removed from service. It is imperative that these machines be removed from service immediately and this bulletin be completed. Please follow the instructions included to complete this repair. Our axle supplier, Dana Corporation, may have improperly installed wheel bearing nut lock washers on drive axles manufactured in early to mid The lock washer is installed as a backup device to retain the bearing nuts in the event that they become loose. Affected machines have a slight risk that both bearing nuts may come loose causing the wheel hub to become loose or fall off. Dana, the axle supplier, has isolated the problem and issued a Technical service bulletin (TSB #310, 06-03). Affected machines must be immediately inspected and repaired as per Dana TSB #310. 3 Tools Required: Procedure: Torque wrench Needlenose pliers Snap ring pliers Very thin wall 2 ½ socket Hard rubber mallet Chisel 2 Ton jack Others as required Ensure that the machine is positioned on a firm level surface with the platform stowed and the emergency disconnect off. Block the tires to prevent movement of the lift and ensure that the machine is safely supported on an appropriate jack or the machine outriggers, if so equipped. The tires of the machines should not need to be removed to perform this bulletin. The procedure to complete the remainder of this bulletin is outlined fully within Dana Technical Service Bulletin #310 dated (Annex A) Parts and Warranty Policy: Skyjack Inc. will supply the required parts at no charge. Skyjack Inc. will pay 1 hour of labor for 2WD machines, 2 hours of labor for 4WD and up to 4 hours of travel time for this bulletin. Upon completion, send in a warranty claim form for each machine, stating that Service Bulletin #98 has been completed. 7 1 RIDGID AXLE DISASSEMBLY 2 Remove nuts. Remove adapter. NOTE: Tap end of axle shaft to remove adapters. 3 4 Remove axle shaft. One tab of lock washer should be bent over flat of inner nut and one tab over flat of outer nut. If completed proceed to step #6. If not proceed to step #5. 5 If machine has not seen service, bend tabs and proceed to step #6. If machine has seen service remove outer lock nut, lock washer and inner lock nut. Inspect for any damage. Install inner lock nut. Tighten inner lock nut to 50 LBS-FT (68 Nm) to seat bearings. Back off lock nut and retighten LBS-FT (41-54 Nm) while hub is rotated. Back nut off degrees. Assemble lock washer and outer lock nut. Tighten lock nut to 65 LBS-FT (88 Nm). Bend one tab of lock washer over flat of inner nut and one tab over flat of outer nut. Final bearing adjustment to be.001 in (.025 mm) to.010 in (.25 mm) end play. Proceed to step #6. 6 RIDGID AXLE REASSEMBLY Install axle shaft and gasket. NOTE: Replace gasket if needed. 3

8 7 8 Install adapter Install nuts STEER AXLE DISASSEMBLY Torque nuts LBS-FT (87-95 Nm). Remove hub cap. Note: Use flat bar against outer edge of cap Remove snap ring. Remove axle shaft gear. 4

13 14 Drive gear spacer. One tab of lock washer should be bent over flat of inner nut and one tab over flat of outer nut. If completed proceed to step #16.

If machine has seen service remove outer lock nut, lock washer and inner lock nut. Inspect for any damage. Install inner lock nut.

Back nut off 135-150 degrees. Assemble lock washer and outer lock nut. Tighten lock nut to 65 LBS-FT (88 Nm).

9 13 14 Drive gear spacer. One tab of lock washer should be bent over flat of inner nut and one tab over flat of outer nut. If completed proceed to step #16. If not proceed to step # If machine has not seen service, bend tabs and proceed to step #16. If machine has seen service remove outer lock nut, lock washer and inner lock nut. Inspect for any damage. Install inner lock nut. Tighten inner lock nut to 50 LBS-FT (68 Nm) to seat bearings. Back off lock nut and retighten LBS-FT (41-54 Nm) while hub is rotated. Back nut off degrees. Assemble lock washer and outer lock nut. Tighten lock nut to 65 LBS-FT (88 Nm). Bend one tab of lock washer over flat of inner nut and one tab over flat of outer nut. Final bearing adjustment to be.001 in (.025 mm) to.010 in (.25 mm) end play. Proceed to step # Install gear spacer. STEER AXLE REASSEMBLY Install axle shaft gear. Use slight pressure to pry axle shaft out for snap ring groove alignment. 5

10 19 20 Install snap ring. Apply a light coat of Permatex No.2 to hub. 21 Install hub cap. NOTE: Tap only on outer edge of cap
