LIST OF ASSETS FOR DISTRIBUTION TRANSFORMERS PROPOSED FOR TENDER SALE SR. NO DESCRIPTION QTY PICTURE ABB CORE WRAPPER To make Wound cores for transformers Range 5 KVA to 750 KVA. The ABB Core Wrapping Machine is designed to wrap electrical grade core steel into a torroid shaped core. Using different sized formingmandrels and target stack depths, the size of the core can be adjusted to suit electrical design requirements. The system consists of the production machine and a PC controller. The PC controller stores and transmits the core data to the production machine for each core. An integrated weigh station monitors the machines output. The core weights are then displayed on the machine via a line chart so the operator can see at a glance, the output quality. The production machine receives material from a core steel roll mounted on an electronically controlled dereeler. The dereeler dispenses core steel from the roll to maintain a slack loop during the production cycle. This slack loop is controlled via ultra sonics so as not to damage the material as it is consumed by the machine. The machine is also equipped with a hydraulic unloading device to facilitate the moving of heavy cores from the machine to a conveyor or other suitable distribution system. The transformer cores are loaded onto racks on a mobile carriage. This carriage is then moved under the furnace bell, which is in turn lowered over the load. The bell is purged of Oxygen with a Nitrogen gas ensuring that core rusting is kept to a minimum. The load is then heated to 800 o C and held there for 5 hours. After the soak has finished, the load is cooled. To ensure that no oxygen enters the bell at elevated temperatures, a heat exchanger system is used to cool the bell. An internal ducting system circulated the atmosphere from the top of the bell, through a heat exchanger, back around to the bottom of the bell. A cooling fan supplies a steady stream of ambient air of the external surface of the heat exchanger to facilitate the cooling process. Once the load cools to below 90 o C, the cycle is completed and the bell rises. The load can then be removed and the next cycle can then begin. A digital chart recorder is used to record every cycle for future reference. The furnace is a fully automatic machine, requiring no operator intervention to complete a cycle. The system will automatically report any errors inhibiting the completion of a cycle and will resume the cycle once the appropriate action Page 2 4

has been taken and the start button is pressed. The system will automatically resume from a loss of power (As long as the UPS has not failed) so as to limit the loss of production time while waiting for operator input. The primary purpose of the compression bonding machine is three-fold; firstly, to compress the long-wound sides of the coil to achieve a predetermined dimension (referred to in this manual as CSD or coil smaller dimension); secondly, to bring all the layers of wire or foil and paper close enough together to allow the semi-cured epoxy dots coating the interlayer insulation paper to melt and fuse; and thirdly, to heat the epoxy dots to a high enough temperature and for long enough time to cure. An important secondary benefit of this compression bonding machine is to purge the coil of No Page 7 4

2 excess moisture contained within the insulation paper. Curing is achieved by injecting the HV side of the coils with a DC current causing the windings themselves to heat up, and in turn heating the paper within the windings. The machine is controlled via a distributed PLC I/O sub system arrangement in conjunction with a dedicated PC controller. The industrial PC communicates to several PLC bases strategically located around the press and power cabinet via a small network hub and standard network cabling.
