ACO Polycrete Pty Ltd ACO A Global Company Manufacturing and supplying the construction industry
The ACO Group ACO was established in 1946 to manufacture mineral building products such as terrazzo concrete, concrete window frames and pipes. 30 years ago ACO pioneered the mass production of polymer concrete products and developed the modular channel drainage system - ACO Drain, now synonymous with line drainage across the world. Today the ACO Group has developed into a truly global organisation with in excess of 3,000 employees, manufacturing on four different continents and sales companies operating in more than twenty different countries, From the USA in the West to China in the East and Scandinavia in the North to Australia in the South. Typical ACO Drain installation During the last 30 years ACO has developed from manufacturing a relatively narrow range of polymer concrete line drainage products to being a very diverse group. Today ACO manufactures products from polymer concrete, stainless steel, mild steel, cast iron, fibreglass and moulded plastics. These materials are used to manufacture components for all aspects of building and construction, as well as the mechanical and electrical engineering, environmental protection and agricultural industries. ACO s growth during the last decade has been both generic and through acquisitions. Amongst these acquisitions are the Danish Plastmo group, one of Europe s leading manufacturers of plastic extruded profiles for the building industry and the market leading Passavant group, who manufacture a variety of cast iron products for the building and plumbing industries. Material and Production Technology Composites ACO is one of the world s foremost producers of polymer concrete which is a versatile material produced by mixing a variety of mineral fillers with a resin binding agent. The resultant material has many excellent properties. ACO s expertise in the casting process has led to the company developing its own inhouse production technology division which designs, develops and builds ACO s production plants worldwide, ensuring customers receive products of a consistent quality worldwide. Metals ACO uses a variety of metals in its componentry. As the world leader in the manufacture of stainless steel drainage systems, ACO has production facilities with considerable expertise in the working and fabrication of stainless steels for both proprietary product ranges and bespoke items. ACO also has mild steel fabrication units, one of which is located in Australia, manufacturing a variety of cover systems which are used in conjunction with ACO s proprietary product ranges. In 1997 and 2000, ACO acquired two of Germany s largest foundries for the manufacture of castings for the construction industry. The AWK and Passavant foundries produces large quantities of both grey and ductile cast iron and are major producers of continuous cast iron bar. ACO and the Environment Over the last twenty years ACO has been at the forefront of Industries concerned with the preservation of wildlife and the environment. ACO has both sponsored conservation and used its technological know how to produce items which help the actual conservation of wildlife. Examples of these projects include polymer concrete tunnels to help amphibians cross under roads, fencing systems to keep small animals off roads, and environmentally friendly, discreet bird boxes that replace a standard building brick in walls. ACO encourages industry to conserve the environment. Plastics The acquisition of the Plastmo group in 1995 gave ACO significant plastic extruding and injection moulding technology. Since this acquisition ACO s material expertise in polyethylene, UPVC and polypropylene, and their use in products for the construction industry, has grown in many areas. ACO is continually striving to further its material technology and the correct uses for these materials.
