1 Pipe manufacturer Vinidex achieves world-class efficiency and safety with Konecranes One of the Konecranes CXT cranes installed at Vinidex Leading Australian pipe manufacturer Vinidex is using advanced Konecranes hoisting technology to streamline manufacturing processes while enhancing safety and efficiency at its Smithfield plant in Sydney, NSW.

2 Vinidex which is part of the global plastic pipe and fitting manufacturer Aliaxis Group employs new generation Konecranes CLX chain hoists as well as CXT wire rope hoists to achieve world-class safety and efficient operation in its Smithfield fabrication shop, bulk handling plant and to lift dye heads and moulding dyes for extrusion operations. Features of the installations include high durability, low maintenance operation of new steel-framed CLX hoists, complemented by safety technologies installed on the CXT wire rope hoists, including adaptive speed range control, load control and positioning and area control. My goal is to make our manufacturing plant as safe and efficient as possible, and Konecranes can meet that need, which takes a load off my mind he said. Vinidex has been Australia s leading manufacturer of PVC and Polyethylene piping systems for over 50 years, supplying to a broad range of industries, including plumbing, water supply, sewerage and wastewater, stormwater and drainage, mining, industrial, rural, irrigation, electrical, telecommunications and gas. Managing safety is a high priority for Vinidex, which has adopted a comprehensive Occupational Heath, Safety and Environmental management system called Project ATLAS. A major component of the company s safety strategy is to establish and sustain high engineering and maintenance standards. At the moment, we re trying to standardise our equipment to make life easier for our operators, so we ve got Konecranes units installed across the facilities, which is proving a worthwhile investment for our operations, said Mr Farrugia. Both CLX and CXT cranes are ideal for manufacturing applications and have been designed for durability, efficiency and safety, even in compact spaces, he said.

3 CLX Chain Hoists The new CLX chain hoists, such as those employed on the Vinidex cranes incorporate a longer lifetime, with up to 1600 hours on most models with a full load, and a durable aluminium construction. The new, steel-framed and sturdy CLX chain hoist is particularly suitable for individual workstation applications, such as assembly cells, and in workshops extending across industries such a mining and resources, metalworking and manufacturing, and vehicle and plant maintenance. Other applications include jib cranes and electric overhead travelling (EOT) cranes. Durability of the lift chain was a key element in the CLX s design for outstanding service. The patented chain sprocket dramatically improves the durability of the chain. The chain sprocket s transmission has been completely redesigned. The new, oil lubrication-based transmission reduces the operating temperature, enabling increased power. Furthermore, the new transmission is maintenance-free and much quieter to operate. CXT Wire Rope Hoists Also employed on the Vinidex cranes are CXT wire rope hoists, which utilise the latest advanced technology from the Konecranes group to extend hoist operation cycles, safety and durability. The versatile hoist can be adapted to a huge variety of applications and ensures reliably operation, regardless of the conditions. The compact dimensions allow the CXT to utilise smaller spaces more efficiently, and different trolley configurations maximise the lifting height potential. To further optimise the efficiency of the crane, the empty hook can be driven with up to 50% higher speeds compared with the loaded hook, allowing the operator to choose the most efficient way to operate the hoist. CXT hoists also come with a range of optional features for customers who are looking to further increase their efficiency and performance. The latest CXT wire rope hoists are available with smart features including:

4 Adaptive Speed Range (ASR) this allows very slow speeds, which are important in moment of load lift-off and lowering. It also has the ability to lift up to 50% faster when lifting 25% of the maximum load or less. Extended Speed Range (ESR) this is an extension of the ASR that allows even faster speeds and a wider range of control. ESR is typically used in heavy use industries with high volume cycles and with a higher percentage of medium to heavy load Load control designed to make the operator s work safer and more productive. Positioning and area control designed to assist the operator in positioning the load more efficiently and accurately. It also allows the crane s working area to be adapted to the varying physical layout of individual facilities and production lines.
