CASE STUDY 1 Standalone Wind/Solar Off-Grid System For Off-shore Platform In The Caspian Sea (KZ) 4
OBJECTIVE Supply continuous and reliable energy to several VTMS (Vessels Traffic Management System) with solar and wind energy only. Repeater stations are located off-shore in the Northern Caspian Sea Region, in Kazakhstan. 5
THE CHALLENGE No downtime allowed 3 days of full autonomy in case of absence of sun and wind No diesel back-up allowed by the customer Remote unmanned platform, no regular maintenance possible Harsh marine environment Outside temperature from -40 C to +50 C Quick and easy servicing 6

SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS Wind and Solar power generating systems complement each other, day/night 8 independent and redundant charging systems: 4 solar arrays + 4 wind turbines Customized wind turbines for low temperature marine operations, entirely sealed, no need to grease ceramic bearings Data acquisition and remote monitoring of all the system parameters, including the environmental ones Remote alarm notification system Redundant lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO 4 ) battery bank Entire electrical system installed in a 10 container, assembled and tested in Italy before delivery 8

MARINE ENVIRONMENT The air conditioning system has two completely separated air circuits: An external compartment, which is in contact with the marine salty air. An internal compartment, which is in contact only with the clean internal air The two circuit are coupled with a sealed heat exchanger The outside air and dust cannot enter inside the container 11
OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE: FROM -40 C TO +50 C The Container is fully customized with internal 10 cm thick for thermal isolation 20 cm mineral whool floor insulation Low power consumption 24V air conditioning system to keep the target internal temperature of 20-25 C during the summer During winter time, the internal temperature will not drop below -5 C The LiFePO 4 battery technology allows operations at -5 C 12
REMOTE UNMANNED PLATFORM: NO REGULAR MAINTENANCE SWITCHING FROM A REACTIVE TO A PROACTIVE MAINTENANCE APPROACH Full remote monitoring and control system. RACK All electronics are 19 rack mounted with disconnect plugs on a rear panel. If any issue occurs and a replacement is needed, the modules can be quickly hot-swapped. 15
CASE STUDY 2 WindKinetic hybrid off-grid power trailer for a WiMax emergency repeater in a mine in Aktogay, Kazakhstan 16
OBJECTIVE The trailer supplies continuous and reliable electrical energy to the telecommunication and video-surveillance system in the Aktogay mine, in an extremely challenging environment with temperatures from -40 C to +50 C, dust, and mud. Windkinetic designed and engineered the system to operate in these harsh conditions with no downtime. 17
RENEWABLE ENERGY TRAILER SPECIFICATIONS The system consists of a customized off-road trailer with a specific structure and a telescopic tower. The system includes one Windkinetic Magellano 500 W wind turbine and 2 solar arrays (1000 W total). A diesel generator is installed as a back-up. The solar panels are mounted on the side and on the top of the trailer structure, to be easily and safely oriented. The trailer chassis has 2 separated compartments. In the first one there are the electronics, the battery bank and the telecom devices. The genset, diesel heater and fuel tank are in the second compartment. 18
RENEWABLE ENERGY TRAILER SPECIFICATIONS The compartments are thermally controlled both at low temperatures by the diesel heater and at high temperatures by cooling fans. The entire system can be installed and be operational in less than 1 hour. The evaluation of the state of health of the system is performed by a remote monitoring and control system. 19
CONCLUSIONS We use our expertise on microgrids and off-grid technology systems to deploy reliable projects for our customers We make plug and play solutions, which are already completely operable, with no need for further integration by the customer We use top brand components with a minimum warranty of 5 years The power systems are fully assembled inside standard ISO containers and tested in our facility in Italy Installation and commissioning is simplified and cost effective Maintenance and post-sales services are made easier by the use of the embedded remote monitoring and control systems 20
