It is strongly recommended tht ech opertor (driver) red nd understnd this entire mnul before operting the trolling motor. Be sure t lest one dditionl person on bord is instructed in the bsic opertion of the trolling motor in cse the driver is unble to operte the bot. Protecting People in the Wter WHILE YOU ARE TROLLING It is very difficult for person in the wter to tke quick ction to void bot heding in their direction, even t slow speeds. 21604 Alwys slow down nd exercise extreme cution ny time you re boting in n re where there might be people in the wter. WHILE THE BOAT IS STATIONARY! WARNING A spinning propeller, moving bot, or ny solid device ttched to the bot cn cuse serious injury or deth to swimmers. GENERAL INFORMATION Do not overlod your bot. Most bots re rted nd certified for mximum lod (weight) cpcities, refer to your bot cpcity plte. If in doubt, contct your deler or the bot's mnufcturer. Perform sfety checks nd required mintennce. Follow regulr schedule nd ensure ll repirs re mde properly. Never be under the influence of lcohol or drugs while boting (it is the lw). Alcohol or drug use impirs your judgment nd gretly reduces your bility to rect quickly. Pssenger bording. Stop the trolling motor whenever pssengers re bording or unloding. Be lert. The opertor of the bot is responsible by lw to mintin proper lookout by sight nd hering. The opertor must hve n unobstructed view prticulrly to the front. No pssengers, lod, or fishing sets should block the opertors view when operting the bot. Underwter hzrds. Reduce speed nd proceed with cution whenever nvigting in shllow wter. Tripping hzrds. To void trip hzrd, route ll cbles nd wiring netly nd out of the wy. Report ccidents. Bot opertors re required by lw to file Boting Accident Report with their stte boting lw enforcement gency when their bot is involved in certin boting ccidents. A boting ccident must be reported if 1) there is loss of life or probble loss of life, 2) there is personl injury requiring medicl tretment beyond first id, 3) there is dmge to bots or other property where the dmge vlue exceeds $500.00 or 4) there is complete loss of the bot. WARNING Performing service or mintennce without first disconnecting the bttery cn cuse product dmge, personl injury, or deth due to fire, explosion, electricl shock, or unexpected motor strting. Alwys disconnect the bttery cbles from the bttery before mintining, servicing, instlling, or removing motor components. Stndrd Prctices nd Procedures When instlling or removing this trolling motor, follow these guidelines: Disconnect the trolling motor from the trolling motor bttery. Do not use the min engine bttery to power the trolling motor. Bttery Recommendtions Use 12 volt, deep cycle mrine btteries. The number of btteries required vries ccording to the model of your trolling motor. Refer to Bttery Connection. As generl rule, deep cycle btteries with higher mp hour rting or reserve cpcity rting will provide longer run times nd better performnce. Instll mnul reset circuit breker in line with the trolling motor positive leds within 1.8 m (6 ft) of the btteries. Do not extend the included 10 guge bttery cbles more thn 1.8 m (6 ft) for totl of 3 m (10 ft). If longer bttery cbles re required, MotorGuide offers ccessory 8 mm² (8 guge) bttery cbles. Use nylock nuts to secure the bttery cbles to their terminls. Using wing nuts to secure the bttery cbles cn cuse loose connections. Do not power ny depth sounders or fish finders from the trolling motor bttery. Connecting electronic equipment to the trolling motor btteries cn cuse electricl interference. Any depth sounders or fish finders must be powered from the engine strting or ccessory bttery. The following precutions should be observed to prevent n explosion: 1. Do not smoke ner btteries being chrged or which hve been chrged very recently. 2. Do not brek live circuits t terminls of btteries, becuse sprk usully occurs t the point where live circuit is broken. Alwys be creful when connecting or disconnecting cble clmps on chrgers. Poor connections re common cuse of electricl rcs which cuse explosions. 3. Do not reverse polrity of bttery terminl to cble connections. Wire nd Cble Routing Route the trolling motor wires on the opposite side of the bot from other bot wiring. The trolling motor should be connected to its own dedicted bttery. Sensitive electronics, such s depth finders, should be connected to seprte bttery. Mrine engines should hve their own dedicted strting bttery. All btteries should hve common ground.

WARNING Before working round electricl system components, disconnect the bttery cbles from the bttery to prevent injury or dmge to the electricl system due to n ccidentl short circuit.! CAUTION Disconnecting or connecting the bttery cbles in the incorrect order cn cuse injury from electricl shock or cn dmge the electricl system. Alwys disconnect the negtive ( ) bttery cble first nd connect it lst. NOTICE Filure to operte the trolling motor within the recommended voltge specifictions cn cuse product dmge. Do not exceed the mximum supply voltge. IMPORTANT: Refer to the decl on the hed of the trolling motor to determine the voltge requirements of your trolling motor. 12-VOLT BATTERY CONNECTION 1. Strting with the negtive ( ) led, disconnect the bttery cbles from the engine strting or ccessory bttery. 2. Instll 50 mp (good) or 60 mp (best) mnul reset circuit breker in line with the trolling motor power cble positive (+) led nd the trolling motor bttery positive (+) terminl. 3. Connect the positive (+) trolling motor led to the positive (+) trolling motor bttery terminl. 4. Connect the negtive ( ) trolling motor led to the negtive ( ) trolling motor bttery terminl. 5. Connect common ground bond from the trolling motor bttery negtive ( ) terminl to the engine strting bttery negtive ( ) terminl.

IMPORTANT: Using lrger drill bit, countersink the holes on fiberglss bots to prevent crcking. 4. Insert the rubber isoltors between the bse of the mount nd the bot mounting surfce. Control the speed of your motor by rolling the speed control knob with your hnd or foot until you rech the desired speed. b c d 54534 - Foot pedl b - Momentry switch c - On/off/pedl switch d - Speed control knob Speed control knob: The speed control knob on five speed motor is numbered 0 5, nd llows you to select one of five preset speeds, nd stop the motor. Momentry switch: The momentry switch is locted on the top right corner of the foot pedl. The momentry switch works in conjunction with the on/off/pedl switch when it is in the pedl position. When the momentry switch is pressed, the motor will run t the selected speed s long s the switch is pressed. On/off/pedl switch: This three position switch provides three options for operting the motor: on, pedl, or off.. On: Allows the motor to run continuously t the speed selected by the speed control knob, without the use of the momentry switch. b. Disconnect the power cbles from the bttery. 2. While holding the propeller blde with one gloved hnd, use 9/16 in. wrench or rtchet nd 9/16 in. socket to remove the propeller nut. Remove the propeller nut nd wsher (or node, for sltwter models). IMPORTANT: Remove the propeller nut with wrench or rtchet nd socket. Using nother tool my dmge the propeller nut or shft. If the propeller cnnot be removed esily, use rubber mllet to lightly tp the bck side of the opposite blde. If the propeller cnnot be removed, hve the propeller removed by n uthorized deler.

Use cre while djusting the steering cble tension. Excessive cble tension will cuse premture wer to the cbles nd pulleys, while excessively loose tension my cuse the cbles to jump off of the pulleys, resulting in loss of steering control. 1. Remove the foot pedl from the bot deck if it hs been secured with screws. 2. Adjust the cble tension by turning the cble tension screw clockwise to increse tension, nd counterclockwise to decrese tension. Adjust the cble tension screw to the specified torque vlue.
