Always refer to the manufacturer service manual for precise torque specifications on all OEM fasteners. To begin the removal process for the OEM exhaust, unplug both rear valve motor harness connectors by pulling out the slide lock then squeezing the connector to pull & remove. Passenger side location shown by the arrow in Figure 1, driver side is in similar location. Unplug the H-Pipe valve (towards front of car) following the same procedure as Step 1. Location shown at Arrow A in Figure 2. Spray inlet and rear section olive clamps with penetrating oil at Arrows B in Figure 2.

Remove both rear hangers from the rubber mounts on each rear muffler assembly (penetrating oil can help). Mount shown at arrow in Figure 3. Spray both rear section olive clamps with penetrating oil at the arrows in Figure 4. Loosen and remove the rear olive bolts and clamps. Dip the inlet of each rear section down and remove sections by moving the assembly towards the front of the car. Working at the front of the vehicle, loosen and remove the front inlet support brackets and hardware. Locations shown at Arrows A in Figure 5. Support the exhaust with a jack stand or assistant. Avoid damaging the inside of the bumper mounted exhaust tip pocket when removing system. Next, loosen and remove front olive bolts and clamps, shown at Arrows B in Figure 5.

Remove the 10mm plastic nuts and 8mm screws that hold the two side plastic underbelly panels closest to the tunnel to access the OEM cross-brace, at Arrows A in Figure 6. Remove the two (2) (T45) torx bolts from the center of the OEM cross-brace, at Arrows B in Figure 6. Remove the four (4) 16mm bolts that hold the cross-brace in, at Arrows C in Figure 6. (Two are behind the underbody panels.) Remove the cross-brace to remove the OEM H-pipe. When using a Track Edition Exhaust on a Dynamic Performance Exhaust equipped car, install the supplied valve simulators into the harness connectors for the rear valve motors. Place each pair of 11mm copper nuts and inlet support brackets from the OEM exhaust onto the AWE H-Pipe, at Arrows A in Figure 7. Move the rubber hangers from the OEM H-Pipe and place them onto the AWE H-Pipe, at Arrows B in Figure 7. Install the AWE Exhaust, starting at the H-Pipe assembly and moving back towards the bumper. Reuse the original olive clamps at the downpipe. Reinstall the OEM cross-brace and tighten the four (4) 1 6mm bolts. Remove the two E16 bolts, at Arrows A in Figure 8. Put the AWE main brace into position, and evenly tighten the bolts. Tighten the T45 torx bolts into the new hanger location, at Arrows B in Figure 8.

Install the rear tube sections (parts TD and TE); use one of the supplied clamps on the expanded sections of pipe. Orientation for the AccuSeal clamps should be as shown by the arrows in Figure 9. Install the rear AWE exhaust brace using the supplied hardware, at Arrows A in Figure 10. When installing the SwitchPath Exhaust, install the SwitchPath resonator assemblies (sedan parts TF,TG) / (coupe parts XW, XY) by sliding the rear portion into the exhaust tip area first. Install the supplied AccuSeal clamp onto the opposing end to connect to the rear tube section, at Arrows B in Figure 10. When installing Track Edition Exhaust, tailpipe sections (sedan parts TH, TJ) / (coupe parts XZ, YA) are installed instead of the SwitchPath resonator assemblies parts. Lubricate the hanger bars and insert into the rubber mounts by the exhaust tip pocket. Exhaust systems expand during operation; avoid installing components too close to the chassis. To compensate for exhaust expansion, each rubber hanger should be pushed toward the front of the vehicle to allow each section of exhaust to seat into the corresponding tube section. With the entire exhaust system aligned, and each clamp positioned away from the chassis to avoid any rattles, tighten and check all hardware to complete the installation. Figure 11 shows where to start and finish. Torque all AccuSeal clamps to 40 ft/lbs. Instructions for the SwitchPath Exhaust on non-dynamic Performance Exhaust vehicles continues on the next page.

AWE remote installation kit instructions: Disconnect the battery before performing any electrical work. In the trunk, remove the liner to access the harness as shown in Figure 12. The harness for the sedan is in the right rear corner. Removing the larger cap on the posi-tap connector, install over an ignition-switched wire and screw the cap into place. Shown by the arrow in Figure 12. C63S AMG Sedan shown. Route the harness into the trunk cavity through one of the rubber plugs. Slight cutting of the rubber plug is required, as shown at Arrow C in Figure 13. Insert the power wire of the harness into the posi-tap connector and screw the smaller cap into place, securing the wire, at Arrow A in Figure 13. Tug the wire to assure fitment. Remove the 10mm bolt and install the ground wire to a bare metal chassis ground, as shown at Arrow A in Figure 13. Cut the rubber plug so the harness can pass through to the underside of the car, at Arrow C in Figure 13. Underneath the car, locate and plug the harness male connector, at Arrow A, into the SwitchPath controller harness s female connector, at Arrow B in Figure 14. The SwitchPath controller harness contains a long and a short branch that connect to the valve control motors on the chamber assemblies. With the short branch of the harness connecting to the passenger side, the long end connects to the driver side. Plugs are at Arrows C in Figure 14.

Run the longest leg of the wiring harness up to the valved H-pipe controller unit. The heat shield wrap is intended for the area that crosses above the exhaust pipe. Zip-tie the harness into location along the path it has taken. Zip-tie the controller box behind the bumper support at the arrow in Figure 16. Zip-tie the remainder of the harness into location. Be sure the SwitchPath controller & harness will not make contact with a hot exhaust. The SwitchPath Remote can be hung on a keychain, or located on the inside the vehicle using the supplied mount. Use supplied double-sided tape or plastic screws to secure the mount to the desired location within the cabin (i.e. in the center console or glovebox). Mount shown next to the remote in Figure 17. Reconnect the battery.

Once installed properly, your AWE performance exhaust will provide years of trouble-free performance. The exhaust volume and sound will settle with usage; 800-1000 miles is required to break-in new exhaust systems.
