307-01-1 Automatic Transaxle/Transmission 307-01-1 IN-VEHICLE REPAIR Main Control Valve Body Material Item Thread Sealant with PTFE TA-24 Motorcraft MERCON Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX Removal Specification WSK-M2G350-AR MERCON 1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02. 6. Disconnect the transaxle wiring harness electrical connector and TR sensor connector. 2. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 3. Remove the battery and tray. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 4. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolt. 10. Remove the splash shield. 13. Remove the transaxle drain plug and drain the transmission fluid. 11. Remove the lower radiator hose and position aside.

Lift the main control valve body while disconnecting the manual valve link. 15. NOTE: Do not discard the gasket. It is a reusable type. Inspect the gasket for damage. Install a new gasket as necessary. Remove the main control cover gasket. 18. Depress the retaining tabs and push the solenoid valve body electrical connector down through the transaxle case. 16. NOTE: Remove the bolts in the indicated 19. 307-01-4 Automatic Transaxle/Transmission 307-01-4 Installation 1. NOTE: Inspect the solenoid valve body harness connector O-ring seal for damage. Install a new O-ring seal, if damaged, before installing the connector into the case. Push the solenoid valve body harness connector into the case. 2. Connect the manual valve link to the main control valve body. 4. NOTE: The main control cover gasket is a reusable type. Inspect the gasket for damage. Install a new gasket as necessary. Install the main control cover gasket. 3. Install the main control valve body and tighten the bolts in sequence as indicated.

Install the main control cover, and tighten the bolts in sequence as shown. 8. Install the lower radiator hose. 6. Using a small amount of thread sealant on the threads, install the transaxle drain plug. 9. Install the splash shield.

NOTE: Before installing the vent tube hose, clean out any obstructions in the hose using low air pressure. Install the vent tube hose to the fitting on the main control cover. 15. Connect the wiring harness to the battery tray bracket. 13. Connect the transaxle harness connector, and the TR sensor connector. 16. NOTE: Before installing the battery tray check the vent tube hose for any obstructions, kinks, or incorrect routing position. Install the battery tray and battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 17. Fill the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03.
