RUBBER BELLOWS general Our rubber compensators are made from various elastomers and provide the flexible element in pipework that is indispensable in todays technically advanced plant and machinery installations. By using the best quality proven rubber compounds and a construction based on many years of experience, our rubber compensators are produced to a high quality standard to guarantee maximum safety and performance. The rubber compensators provide: - ompensation of thermal or mechanical movement of pipework in axial, lateral or angular directions. - Absorption and isolation of vibration combined with damping of pipework borne sound transmission. - Reduction of pressure pulses in pipework. - Flexible joint faces which provide built-in sealing within the compensator construction (see installation instruction). - ompensation for pipework misalignment on flexibly mounted installations. Our rubber compensators are available in 5 standard constructions, type 1 A, type 1 S, SB, 3K / 3K2 and 4K each available in different rubber qualities, so that the correct rubber compensator can be selected for every kind of medium and temperature. Next to that the high pressure compensators are available. SPEIFIATIONS rubber compensators IDENTIFIATION MARKING INNER LINING OUTSIDE OVER RUBBER OMPOSITION Yellow Ring Nitrile hloroprene Especially resistant for outside weather type 1A, 1S and SB (SB type Neoprene) conditions, as well as oil, age, ozone and flame resisting. For fresh-, cold-, or seawater, all known fuels and petrol-benzolmixtures 50:50. Temp. range water: 40 Temp. range oil: -40 + 70. + 90. Red Ring EPDM EPDM Especially resistant for outside weather conditions as well as ageing. Hot-water constructions for heating installations with safe usage temperatures of 100. Temp. range: -40 + 100. HP EPDM EPDM Especially resistant for outside weather conditions as well as ageing. Hot-water construction for heating installations with safe usage temperatures of 130. Not in 1S and SB execution. Temp. range: 40 Temp. range: -40 + 110. (10 bar). + 130. (6 bar). Green Ring Hypalon hloroprene Especially resistant for outside weather (SB type Neoprene) conditions, as well as oil, age, ozone and flame resisting. Acid resistant rubber which can be used for most acids. However quote the substance and the operating temperature. Temp. range: -40 + 90. White Ring Butyl hloroprene Especially resistant for outside weather conditions, as well as oil age, ozone and flame resisting. For drinking water, food and alcoholic beverages, also with fat containing foods (for example oil). Not in SB execution. Temp. range: -40 + 90. 1

TEHNIAL DATA AND DIMENSIONS compensator type 1A The standard expansion joints type 1A combine high flexibility with a short overall length. Pressure rating 16 bar (10 bar * ) working pressure, a test pressure of 25 bar (16 bar * ) and a burst pressure of over 60 bar (30 bar* ) guaranteed. ( * For compensators larger than NB 200). The permissible working pressure is determined by the bellows, also a higher temperature of the medium and the type of flanges used have an influence. The special flow-assisting convoluted shape of the bellow minimises detrimental turbulance of the medium and pressure loss. High tensile strength textile cord plies combined with proven syntethic rubber mixes guarantee maximum reliability and an extended working life. The standard units are supplied ready for installation with rotatable galvanised steel flanges to DIN ND 10 at each end. If the packingface of the pipework is not smooth, separate packing rings can be used. The type 1A expansion joints have been type approved by Germanisher Lloyd. Excellent fluid and structure-born noise insulation is obtained with the textile cord plies and synthetic rubber construction. øa øb Average installed insulation is about 25 db, a figure which is further improved by compressed installation. ompensator Type 1A 2

Thus they relieve stresses and protect machinery or equipment attached to the pipework and lengthening the life of the whole installation. The type SB combine flexibility with a short overall length (185 mm). Pressure rating 16 bar working pressure, a test pressure of 24 bar and a burst pressure of over 48 bar guaranteed. Flame tests have proven a compensator to withstand 800 for over 30 minutes at 5 bar waterpressure. Pressure test afterwards up to 65 bar showed no damage to the compensator. Three types of flameguards are available which protect the compensator for 30, 90 or 120 minutes against flames, according to DIN4102 class F30, F90 and F120. øa Flameguards 5

INSTALLATION INSTRUTIONS allowable movements type 1A / 1S / SB The compensator should be installed in the neutral (). Length to enable the maximum use of the displacement capability. INSTALLATION INSTRUTIONS type 1A / 1S / SB Separate back-up rings are not necessary if the packing face of the contra flanges of the pipework is smooth. Welding neck flanges according to the illustration are preferred for this reason, see table. The end of the bolt should not come into contact with the bellows. The bolt length should be selected to provide a minimum clearance under load of 15 mm between bolt end and rubber bellow, otherwise there is a risk of damage, see illustration. 15 mm 7

Tighten the bolts working diagonally across, fixing the spanner inside and tightening outside so as to avoid tool damage to the rubber section. Do not overtighten the bolts, as this will crush the sealing ring and cause leakages (work to the recommended bolt torques). See illustrations. Tie-bar limiters can be used to absorb pressure loads on a machine house of a pump for example from the reactionforce of the expansion joint. * * 8

TYPE 3K / 3K2 general specification As an addition to the flanged compensator range, the 3K and 3K2 rubber expansion joints have been designed especially to provide small, low weight expansion joints which are both very flexible and simple to install. The 3K ranges accommodate misalignment, axial and lateral pipework movements and dramatically reduce the transmission of noise, vibration and shock. The expansion joints marked with a yellow ring are manufactured in black nitrile rubber, reinforced with synthetic fabric to achieve a high mechanical strength. They are suitable for use with cooling water, fuel and lubrication oil pipework systems up to 90. The red ring marked expansion joints are manufactured in black EPDM rubber reinforced with Aramide fabric to achieve high strength at elevated temperatures. They are suitable for use with hot (cooling) water installations up to 130. The burst pressure safety factor is 5 times the working pressure of 4 bar. The minimum workpressure (absolute) is 70 kpa and can be lowered by fitting a vacuum support ring. The working pressures are guaranteed by using the recommended powerclamps according to the table. Both executions have been type approved by Germanischer Lloyd. TYPE 4K general specification As an addition to the 3K compensator range, the 4K multiple bellow expansion joints with support rings have been designed especially to provide small, low weight expansion joints which combine flexibility and high medium temperature with simple installation. The expansion joints are manufactured in brown synthetic rubber, with a black inner liner, reinforced with synthetic fabric to achieve a high mechanical strength. They are suitable for use with cooling water, fuel and lubrication oil pipework systems up to 220. The 4K ranges accommodate misalignment, axial and lateral pipework movements and reduce the transmission of noise, vibration and shock. The burst pressure safety factor is 3 times the working pressure of 4 bar. The minimum workpressure (absolute) is 80 to 90 kpa, depending on compensator size and can be lowered by fitting vacuum support rings. The mentioned pressures are guaranteed by using the recommended (stainless steel) clamps according to the table.
