Connected Vehicle Reference Implementation Architecture (CVRIA) Developed as a basis for identifying the key interfaces across the connected vehicle environment Supports policy considerations and identifies further research and analysis Creates system information flows and technical and logical architectures of connected vehicle applications www.iteris.com/cvria/ Dynamic Ridesharing Application 3

CVRIA Transit Applications Mobility Dynamic Ridesharing* Dynamic Transit Ops * Integrated Multi-modal Electronic Payment Intermittent Bus Lanes Route ID for the Visually Impaired Smart Park and Ride System Transit Connection Protection* Transit Stop Request Safety Transit Pedestrian Indication** Transit Vehicle at Station/Stop Warnings** Vehicle Turning Right in Front of a Transit Vehicle** *Tested in Integrated Dynamic Transit Operations program **Tested in Enhanced Transit Readiness Package and Transit Bus Stop Pedestrian Warning programs 4

Integrated Dynamic Transit Operations (IDTO) Program Proof of concept demonstration and testing in Fall 2014 in Orlando, FL area to test technology transferability Connection Protection (T-CONNECT): increase the likelihood that a traveler makes a successful transfer Dynamic Transit Operations (T-DISP): provide both real-time trip planning information and demand-responsive transportation access Dynamic Ridesharing (D-RIDE): provide access to a ridesharing network for travelers by communicating needs (passengers) or available space (drivers) Demonstration from March to December 2014 in Columbus, OH testing T-CONNECT and trip planning component of T-DISP The smartphone application C-Ride developed by the Battelle Memorial Institute 5

Interactive Transit Station Information System (ITSIS) Design, build, and test a prototype bus stop interactive traveler information hub: Obtaining transit service information Conducting transit trip planning Making on-demand trip request Uses V2I DSRC communications Obtain information via station information hub and mobile device Performer is California Partnerships for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH) Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) routes 22 & 522 522E Route EL CAMINO & CALIFORNIA EL CAMINO & KNICKERBOCKER Map 10:30am 10:46am 10:50am 11:06am 2 min 53S Arrival BERNARDO & EL CAMINO WEST VALLEY TRANSIT CENTER Connection 11:05am 12:05am 11:43am 12:45am Trip 10:30 AM Change Trip Change Destination Approach!5.!! Transit Bus Stop Pedestrian Warning (TSPW) Application Design, build, test, and modify a prototype Transit Bus Stop Pedestrian Warning application: Alerts pedestrians of buses approaching and departing stop (V2I & V2I2P) Alerts bus drivers of pedestrians in roadway (I2V) Alerts passengers alighting from buses about approaching motor vehicles (V2I) GCRTA 80 to 100 buses to be equipped Up to four bus stops to be equipped Operations: December 2016 June 2017 7

CV Infrastructure - Urban Bus Ops Safety Platform Design, build, and test an Enhanced TRP (E-TRP) Enhanced Pedestrian Crossing Warning (E-PCW) Enhanced Vehicle Turning Right in Front of Bus Warning (E- VTRW) Rear Camera Integration Improved pedestrian detection sensing technology Improved locational accuracy technology More robust DSRC radio with remote management capability Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) 80 to 100 buses to be equipped E-PCW at six locations Operations: December 2016 June 2017 8

Mobility on Demand Mobility on Demand (MOD): a mode-agnostic view of transportation that may include public private and non-profit operators that blurs the lines of public transportation into a mobility ecosystem Benefits to users and operators: efficiency, enhanced customer service, potential solutions for first mile/last mile and paratransit 9

Emerging MOD Research ITS JPO foundational research to develop use cases, performance metrics, and policy/regulations needs Examination of field proofs of concept and pilots FTA MOD Sandbox Safe place for public transit operators, private sector providers, non-profits, etc. to develop solutions Anticipate Notice of Funds Authorization in April 10
