Improper installation, adjustment, service or maintenance can cause injury or property damage. Therefore, only a qualified installer or qualified service personnel should perform this conversion. If the unit is connected to power sources, make sure that all electrical power to the unit has been disconnected. INSTALLATION A separate control is required for each outdoor fan motor. On 575V accessories, one buck/boost transformer powers both outdoor fan motors to allow the use of 460V motors in a 575V unit. 1. Disconnect the electrical power to the unit. 2. Remove all access panels and fan grilles. OUTDOOR FAN OTORS 1. Disconnect all outdoor fan motor leads and remove both motors through the top of the unit. 2. Install the motor provided in this accessory. The projections on the sides of the motors should rest on top of the motor mount band. The top of the fan blade should be about an inch below the top of the unit top cover. 3. Use wire ties to route the motor leads along the motor mount arm. Allow a drip loop in the motor leads at the motor so that the leads enter the motor upward. The drip loop prevents water from traveling along the wire into the motor. OUNTING CONTROLS 1. ount the head pressure control with the PURPLE wire labeled 700 on the outside of the unit on the front center post. Use the mounting bracket to keep the control out of the way of the access panels. ount the control with the PURPLE wire labeled 702 on the right front corner post. 2. Remove both knock outs below each control. 3. Insert a plastic bushing in the center partition separating the two fans to route the capillary tubes from the controls to the compressors. 4. Insert the plastic bushing in the hole closest to the control. Insert the capillary tube through the plastic bushing and tighten the flare nut onto the compressor discharge line flare fitting. Install the left capillary tube on the left compressor and the right capillary tube on the right compressor. 5. Insert the wiring through the second hole below the control and secure the conduit. 6. On 575V units, remove the knock out in the lower portion of the right front corner post and install a plastic bushing. Install the buck/boost transformer on the right front corner post, inserting the wires through the bushing. REPLACING LOW ABIENT SWITCH 1. Remove and discard 45 F low ambient switch (LAS). 2. Replace with 0 F low ambient switch provided in kit. 208/230 AND 460 VOLT UNITS WIRING HPC1 1. Refer to the wiring diagram in Figure 1 for connection of the Johnson Controls P66 Electronic Fan Speed Controls. 2. Remove and discard wire 129/BL between the contactor (1) and condenser fan motor #1 capacitor (RC1). Connect wire 701 BLUE to the 1 contactor at terminal and the terminal on the P66 HPC1. 3. Connect wire 700 PURPLE to the condenser fan motor #1 capacitor (RC1) and the 1 terminal on the P66 HPC1. 4. Remove outdoor fan control (PSC) and wiring. Install jumper wire 708 ORANGE from relay terminal #4 to 3 contactor coil in place of the 250/O wire. 5. Connect wire 704 ORANGE to the relay at terminal #4 and the orange wire from the P66 HPC1. 6. Connect wire 705 BROWN to and the brown wire from the P66 HPC1. WIRING HPC2 1. Refer to the wiring diagram in Figure 1 for connection of the Johnson Controls P66 Head Pressure Control. 2. Remove and discard wire 130/Y between contactor (3) and condenser fan motor #2 capacitor (RC2). Connect wire 703 BLUE to the 3 contactor at terminal and the terminal on the P66 HPC1. 2 Johnson Controls Unitary Products
3. Connect wire 702 PURPLE (from the kit) to the condenser fan motor #2 capacitor (RC2) and the 1 terminal on the P66 HPC2. 4. Connect wire 706 ORANGE to the relay at terminal #4 and the orange wire from the P66 HPC1. 5. Connect wire 707 BROWN to and the brown wire from the P66 HPC2. 575 VOLT UNITS WIRING HPC1 & HPC2 1. Refer to the wiring diagram in Figure 2 for connection of the Johnson Controls P66 Electronic Fan Speed Controls. 2. Remove and discard wire 129/BL between contactor (1) and condenser fan motor #1 capacitor (RC1). 3. Connect wire 700 PURPLE to the condenser fan motor #1 capacitor (RC1) and the 1 terminal on the P66 HPC1. 4. Remove and discard wire 130/Y between contactor (3) and condenser fan motor #2 capacitor (RC2). 5. Connect wire 702 PURPLE to the condenser fan motor #2 capacitor (RC2) and the 1 terminal on the P66 HPC2. 6. Use a wire nut to join wires 701 BLUE and 703 BLUE from the terminal on the P66 HPC1 and HPC2 to wire 711 which will connect to the Buck Boost Transformer. 7. Connect wire 709 YELLOW from the 3 contactor terminal to the buck/boost transformer. 8. Connect wire 710 BLACK from the 3 contactor terminal to the buck/boost transformer. 9. Remove and discard outdoor fan control (PSC), wire 251/BK and 250/O. Install jumper wire 708 ORANGE from relay terminal #4 to 3 contactor coil. 10. Connect wire 704 ORANGE to the relay at terminal #4 and the orange wire from the P66 HPC1. 11. Connect wire 705 BROWN to and the brown wire from the P66 HPC1. 12. Connect wire 706 ORANGE to the relay at terminal #4 and the orange wire from the P66 HPC2. 13. Connect wire 707 BROWN to and the brown wire from the P66 HPC2. OPERATION The P66 varies the outdoor fan motor speed to maintain higher head pressure in low ambient temperatures. It has a 170-230 psig operating range. If the head pressure is below the operating range, the motors remain off. As the pressure rises through the operating range, the output voltage to the motors varies from a start voltage of 40% to 90% of line voltage at the top of the range. As the pressure rises above the operating range, the output voltage increases at a lesser rate to a maximum of 97% of line voltage at 260 psig. Johnson Controls Unitary Products 3
