Trial objectives 1 Increase the understanding about the potential impact / opportunities from the advent of automated vehicle technology 2 Give Australians the chance to see automated vehicle technology, and eventually use and experience it 3 Further help Australia prepare a roadmap for changes to support and safely transition to automated vehicle technology

Stage three: Public trial Phase 1 Phase 2 Phase 3

Trial outcomes (to date) More than 13,200 registrations 8,200 participants have ridden 11,250 kilometres travelled Three community perception survey waves Pre-ride and post-ride member surveys Knowledge transfer across industry. Policy submissions shared: Standing Committee Inquiry: Social issues relating to landbased driverless vehicles in Australia NTC Discussion Papers Transport for NSW Future Transport Technology Roadmap VicRoads Future Directions Paper: How Victoria will support the development of automated vehicles Smart Cities and Suburbs Program Development of wider AV Program.

Research initiatives Milestone Milestone name Activity 1 2 3 4 Phase Two: expansion of current Phase One route Phase Three: expansion of Phases One and Two route Trial wireless electric vehicle induction charging pad Integrate RTK GNSS with network of Reference Stations The Trial in South Perth involves three phases with each phase expanding the route to test the vehicle in increasingly complex environments. Expansion of the route to phase two requires the testing and incorporation of new camera technology for lane keeping and localisation. Building on Phase Two, the third phase will require the incorporation of new Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I or V2X) technology. Expansion of the route to phase three requires the integration of Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) with AVs. This will be an early test case for investigating this technology with the coordination and support of Main Roads WA. The Intellibus is a fully electric vehicle and can be charged either by using a standard plug, which requires manual intervention, or by using a specially supplied induction charger. A wireless induction charging station, installed at the Intellibus bus stop, will be trialled enabling the vehicle to charge simply by parking over the magnetic induction pad. Autonomous vehicles rely on RTK GNSS for precise localisation and calculation of the vehicle s position. There is a need to test new reference stations. This has the potential for better and more accurate localisation to allow autonomous vehicles to communicate its position with greater accuracy and less latency as well as allow allowing greater travel distances. 5 Community perceptions 6 Optimisation through service enhancements Monitoring community perceptions and experiences as well as understanding the social impacts of AV are key components of the Trial. A research framework has been developed comprising: - Collation and analysis of pre and post-ride surveys, - Independent monitoring of broader community perceptions (wave three and four). Working with our partners, RAC will test a number of technological service enhancements to optimise the service by attempting to enable real time fleet management whereby the shuttle can coordinate stops, embedding on-demand functionality (phone app), and the integration of a remote supervision. 7 Trial of future Trial stages and expansion of the AV Program Trial next generation vehicle, that will increase understanding of emerging technologies to adapt and operate them in an Australian setting.; and Trial in regional settings.

Expansion of the AV program With two other cities globally, RAC has exclusive access to launch and trial a new automated vehicle in Perth Western Australia, from mid-2018. The AUTONOM, manufactured by Navya and unveiled on 7 November 2017. Includes latest technology: 10 LiDARS 6 stereovision cameras 4 radars 2 GNSS antennae inertial measurement unit, and a sound and visual system to communicate with users. Carries up to 6 people seated. On-demand service designed for inner city precincts.
