Work Zone Safety Certification Delayed Due to several factors, including the state of the economy, the NC Department of Transportation has decided to delay the implementation of the Work Zone Safety Certification Program as follows: Flagger Certification: Delayed until July, 200 Installer Certification: Delayed until January, 20 Supervisor Certification: Delayed until July, 20 North Carolina One-Call s Mapping Migration Program When North Carolina One-Call began using mapping many years ago, TIGER data maps, based on the US Geological Survey, from the US Census Bureau were readily and reasonably available. The maps were used as the mapping base by One-Call. GPS Mapping by many utilities in recent years has pointed out that TIGER data maps are not always accurate and accuracy is essential for utility protection. NC OneMap is a project being implemented for North Carolina. NC OneMap will provide accurate digital maps for all 00 counties in North Carolina. Each county is a separate file in NC OneMap. North Carolina One-Call s migration to NC OneMap began in February 2008. Mecklenburg County was the first to be converted due to its having the most locate requests. Buncombe and New Hanover Counties followed to get a crosssection of various types of topography. When NC OneMap data is imported for a county, the utilities must check their grid/polygon placement to insure they are still protected and make adjustments where needed. Utilities are given a deadline to accomplish this. Eighteen counties are complete; ten additional are in migration mode. The remaining counties will be migrated in groups of around ten. There are currently 2 counties that have no available, digital mapping of streets. It is anticipated that this data will be available in 2 to 3 years. Completion of the conversion is project for 202 or 203. Local Report for Rowan County
