Principle of Operation The Medivators Medi-Newt is a mobile, semi-automatic neutralization system used for the safe disposal of highlevel disinfectants from automatic reprocessors for medical endoscopes. Medi-Newt is connected to the reprocessor and the used disinfectant is transferred from the reprocessor to the Medi-Newt storage tank. Medivators Neutra-Hyde disinfectant neutralizer, order p/n DNS-1002, is manually added to the storage tank to neutralize the used disinfectant. The Medi-Newt timer is set to the required neutralization time. During the neutralization process, the Medi- Newt circulates the disinfectant to ensure complete mixing with the Neutra-Hyde. The indicator light illuminates at end of the cycle and the neutralized disinfectant is then pumped to drain. Fumes from the disinfectant are alsoeliminated. Safety Precautions Disconnect power before replacing or servicing the unit. Refer to the MSDS of the high level disinfectant that you are using for additional safety precautions. If the Medi-Newt is not used in accordance with the Instruction Manual, the protection provided by the Medi-Newt may be impaired. Environmental Conditions For indoor use only. Temperature range: 5oC to 40oC. Main supply voltage fluctuations not to exceed ±10% of the nominal voltage. Insulation over voltage category II. No special ventilation required for unit operation or cleaning. Supply Ratings Electrical specifications: 110-120 VAC 0.5 Amps 50/60 Hz Fuse 2A 250V Type FSF 5 x 20 mm (Qty 1) 5
Warning Symbols The meanings of the labels and symbols that appear on the packaging and/or the system are as follows: CAUTION! INDICATES A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION, WHICH IF NOT AVOIDED, MAY RESULT IN MINOR OR MODERATE INJURY. IT MAY ALSO BE USED TO ALERT AGAINST UNSAFE PRACTICES OR POTENTIAL EQUIPMENT DAMAGE. Protective Grounding Setting up Medi-Newt The Medi-Newt is a mobile neutralization system that can easily move between areas of use. No permanent installation is required. The Medi-Newt quick connect fittings must be compatible with the endoscope reprocessor for safe transfer of used disinfectant. Device Operation The Medi-Newt system is designed to be used for neutralizing high-level disinfectants before disposal. 1. Unscrew the large cap of the Medi-Newt tank and add Neutra-Hyde. Retighten cap onto tank. 2. Disconnect Hose A from the Medi-Newt tank and connect to endoscope reprocessor s reservoir drain port. Disconnecting Hose A 3. Plug Medi-Newt into a GFCI protected wall outlet. 6
4. Switch ON green POWER switch. 5. Switch ON red FILL/DRAIN switch to drain reprocessor reservoir. 6. Switch red FILL/DRAIN OFF when reprocessor reservoir is empty. 7. Disconnect Hose A from reprocessor reservoir and connect to the Hose A connection on the Medi-Newt tank. 8. Select time for deactivation by turning the TIMER dial. 9. Switch black DEACTIVATE switch ON. Unit will run for the time selected. The pump will stop and the indicator light will illuminate when the cycle is complete. 10. After cycle is complete, disconnect Hose B from the Medi-Newt tank and attach the weighted drain adaptor. Caution: This is very important as liquid cannot flow without the adaptor in place. Place the weighted adaptor and hose securely in a drain or sink and switch red FILL/DRAIN switch ON. Switch OFF when tank is empty. Disconnecting Hose B 7
Attaching the weighted drain connector 11. Disconnect weighted drain adaptor and reconnect Hose B to the Medi-Newt. 12. Switch black DEACTIVATE switch to RESET position. The cycle is now complete. 13. The Medi-Newt tank must be rinsed after the last use of the day with at least one gallon of fresh water. Failure to rinse the tank can result in residual build-up and blockage of the in-line filter. Rinse the tank by removing the tank cap, pouring in at least one gallon of water and setting the timer for 5 minutes. Follow steps 10 through 12 to drain the tank after the rinse cycle is complete. Cleaning Turn the main power switch OFF and disconnect power cord from electrical outlet. Use mild detergent solution such as dish washing liquid and water to wipe down all surfaces. Hard to clean spots may be cleaned with a light abrasive such as Soft Scrub. Note: Pump Inlet A and Pump Outlet B are permanent connections and it is not necessary to disconnect these lines at any time. 8
Troubleshooting If Medi-Newt is not running check the following: 1. Verify Medi-Newt is plugged into a live electrical power outlet. 2. Make sure the Green Power switch located front panel is in the ON position. 3. In the event that the system is still not working, check the fuse. The fuse is located on the left side of the Medi- Newt in a pull-out drawer within the power receptacle. UNPLUG UNIT BEFORE PULLING OPEN FUSE DRAWER 4. Pull open drawer and remove the fuse. If the filament is damaged replace with a Type FSF 5 x 20 mm 2amp 250VAC. 5. If unit is still not working, call Medivators Customer Support at 1-800-444-4729. If Medi-Newt has a low fluid flow: 1. Check in-line filter and clean or replace if necessary. 9
