Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 3. While wearing gloves, remove the cutouts in the bumper with a utility knife. Cut the eight tabs in the area shown. INSTALLATION 1. Write down the radio station presets; the radio memory will be erased when you disconnect the battery. Illustration of the Fog Lights Installed on the Vehicle Discard. FRONT BUMPER MOUNT HOLE CUTOUTS SWITCH SWITCH TAB 4. Using scissors, cut out the marked area from the template along the dotted line. 5. Position the template on the center grille rib, and mark the grille rib along the edge of the template with a felt-tip pen (two places). Routing the Fog Light Harness 8. At the front bumper grille, route the 1-pin connector and ground terminal of the fog light harness into the engine compartment through the front bulkhead below the driver s side headlight. 1-PIN GROUND TERMINAL MARK 6. While wearing gloves, cut out the center grille rib with a hacksaw blade: Cut along the outer edge of the mark. Do not cut through the mark. Take care not to damage the bumper with the hacksaw blade. 2-PIN 2-PIN Cut out. MARK MARK File the cut edge up to the mark, and remove any burrs. CONDENSER (If equipped with A/C) FRONT BULKHEAD 9. Route the remaining section of the fog light harness along the front bumper, and pull the 2-pin connectors out through the holes you just cut in the bumper. 7. 10.Under the hood, loosen the ground bolt securing the vehicle ground terminal, and attach the fog light harness ground terminal to this bolt. Tighten the bolt securely. 1-PIN WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR 14.Connect the vehicle harness 1-pin connector to the fog light harness 1-pin connector, and secure the connector to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. 15.At the front bumper, attach three wire ties with clips to the fog light harness in the areas marked with green tape. Loosely attach three additional wire ties with clips in the areas shown. FRAME CROSS MEMBER BULKHEAD SUPPORT POWER STEERING RESERVOIR WITH CLIP GROUND BOLT 11. Route the 1-pin connector from the fog light harness along the vehicle harness and behind the windshield washer reservoir and the power steering reservoir (if equipped). Secure the fog light harness to the vehicle with one wire tie in the area shown. 12.If the vehicle you are working on is equipped with power steering, lift the power steering reservoir tank out of the way. 13.Locate the 1-pin connector (brown) blue-taped to the vehicle harness under the windshield washer reservoir filler, and remove the blue tape to free the connector. 1-PIN WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR FILLER GREEN TAPE WITH CLIP GREEN TAPE 16.Attach the three wire ties with clips in the center of the harness to the holes in the frame cross member. Attach the two outer clips to the outer holes in the cross member, and attach the final clip to the hole in the bulkhead support. 17.Route the 2-pin connector of the fog light harness under the side rib and out of the grille. Installing the Fog Lights 18.Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the left underside of the bumper beam where the rubber pad will be attached. Allow the cleaned surface to dry thoroughly before attaching the rubber pad. 22.Inside the bumper, position a support plate on the bumper, and install a 5 x 16 mm washer-screw through the bracket into the support plate. Tighten the screw securely. SUPPORT PLATE BUMPER BEAM ADHESIVE BACKING 10 mm 5 x 16 mm WASHER-SCREW RUBBER PAD 19.Remove the adhesive backing from one rubber pad, and attach it to the underside of the bumper beam. Position the rubber pad so approximately 10 mm of it is sandwiched between the bumper and the bumper beam. (The rubber pad is a cushion for the bracket.) 20.Install two rubber caps onto the tabs of the left bracket. FRONT BUMPER 5 x 16 mm LARGE WASHER-SCREWS BUMPER SUPPORT PLATE 23.Repeat steps 18 through 22 for the right side. 24.For the left fog light, connect the 2-pin connector of the fog light into the 2-pin connector of the fog light harness. Slide a connector clip into the 2-pin connector of the fog light harness, then press the connector clip into the hole on the back of the bracket. CLIP 5 x 16 mm WASHER-SCREW FOG LIGHT SLOTTED HOLES RUBBER CAPPED TAB RUBBER CAPS 21.Insert the top of the left bracket behind the bumper, then press the rubber-capped tabs into the slotted holes in the bumper. Secure the bracket to the bumper with two 5 x 16 mm large washer-screws. Tighten the screws securely. 2-PIN 5 x 16 mm 5 x 16 mm LARGE WASHER-SCREW WASHER-SCREW 25.Position the fog light on the bracket, and install two 5 x 16 mm washer-screws and one 5 x 16 mm large washer-screw to secure the fog light. 1997 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. 26.Repeat steps 24 and 25 for the right fog light. 27.Route the 2-pin connector of the fog light harness out through the bottom right corner of the right bracket. RIGHT 29.Remove the knee bolster (two bolts). KNEE BOLSTER BOLTS 30.Remove the steering column cover (three screws and two retaining clips). RIGHT 2-PIN Routing the Switch Harness 28.Remove the driver s dashboard lower cover (three self-tapping screws, three clips, and pull), then disconnect the connector(s). RETAINING CLIP Push in. SELF- TAPPING SCREW SUNROOF MODEL DRIVER S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER SCREWS STEERING COLUMN COVER RETAINING CLIP 31.Disconnect the connectors from the headlight switch, and pull them to the right side of the steering column; then apply cushion tape over the left steering column mounting nut. 32.Connect the switch harness connectors between the headlight switch and the vehicle harness. 33.Secure the switch harness with two wire ties in the areas shown. 35.Locate the 1-pin connector (brown) blue-taped to the backside of the under-dash fuse/relay box. Remove the blue tape to free the connector. VEHICLE SWITCH S 34.Plug the relay into the switch harness, then secure the relay and the switch harness ground terminal to the steering hanger beam with the ground bolt provided in the kit. ICU (EX model only) FUSE/RELAY BOX SWITCH BROWN 1-PIN BLUE TAPE 36.Route the switch harness 1-pin connector (brown) over the steering hanger beam, and connect it to the connector you just freed. 37.Secure the switch harness to the vehicle harness with two wire ties in the areas shown. Secure the wire ties only in the areas shown and not to the yellow SRS harness. FUSE/ RELAY BOX SWITCH BOLT (Discard.) RELAY GROUND TERMINAL GROUND BOLT FUSE LABEL EX Models Only: Remove and discard the bolt securing the ICU; then attach the ground terminal, the relay, and the ICU with the ground bolt provided in the kit. 38.Attach the fuse label to the fuse/relay box on the switch harness. 39.Reinstall the steering column covers. 1997 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. 40.Reinstall the knee bolster, making sure the switch harness is routed inside the knee bolster. USE AND CARE Operating the Fog Lights Turn the headlight switch to the on position (headlights on low beam). The fog lights operate only in the low-beam position. Press the fog light switch (pilot indicator is on). If the fog lights don t come on, check the fuse on the switch harness and all wire connectors. Adjusting the Fog Lights Adjust the fog light if necessary by turning the adjusting screw. KNEE BOLSTER SWITCH 41.Remove the plastic cover from the driver s dashboard lower cover, and install the fog light switch. PLASTIC COVER ADJUSTING SCREW To RAISE To LOWER SWITCH 42.Connect the switch harness 6-pin connector to the fog light switch. Reconnect the remaining connectors on the dashboard lower cover, then install the cover. 43.Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 44.Reinstall all removed parts. 45.Connect the negative cable to the battery. 46.Reset the clock and the radio station presets. Replacing the Fog Light Bulb Use only genuine Honda halogen light bulbs of the specified wattage. Do not touch the bulb. Oils from your fingers or greasy substances can cause a hot spot and will damage the bulb. If the bulb is touched, wipe it with a clean, soft cloth dampened in denatured alcohol or a mild detergent/water solution. 8 of 9 AII 18767 (9709) 1997 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. 1. Remove the fog light (three screws). Gently pull it toward you. 5. Release the spring from the hook, and pull out the bulb. BULB HOLDER SPRING HOOK SCREW 2. Release the connector from the holder, then disconnect the connector. 3. Remove the rear cover (five screws). REAR COVER 6. When installing the bulb, align the cutouts with the locating tabs. CUTOUTS SCREW TERMINAL LOCATING TABS 4. Release the connector from the housing, then disconnect the terminal. 7. Reinstall the rear cover, and tighten the screws securely. 8. Reinstall the fog light, and reconnect the connector. 9. Check the operation of the fog light, and adjust it if necessary. 1997 American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
