The test is based on the European standard EN 1364-1:1999 and performed on January 23, 2007. The partition wall is as in practice provided with Norwegian Elko sockets and switches fitted with intumescent gaskets of Envirograf, product type 30, which expand during a fire. For this test a partition wall was prepared with Fire Line Plasterboard and only two sockets on each side. The construction is assembled at our laboratory on January 22, 2007. 1 1 This report is issued by the TNO company Efectis Nederland BV (previously TNO Centre for Fire Research). TNO decided, in response to international developments and requests by customers, to collaborate with two European Egolf partners, both highly experienced in fire safety: the Norwegian Sintef/NBL and the French CTICM. Thus, through scaling up, a more comprehensive service of high quality and a wider range of facilities can be offered. In order to achieve this, the fire safety related activities of the partners involved have been privatised in this collaboration. With respect to TNO this has lead to the privatisation on the 1 st of July of the activities of the TNO Centre for Fire Research via the establishment of the company Efectis Nederland BV. Date Construction details: The construction consisted of a frame with wooden studs, dimensions 100 x 50 mm with a spacing of 475 mm in the middle and 240 mm near the edges, fixed together with 100 mm screws no. 8 (see figure 1). Two layers of Fire Line Plasterboards, thickness 2 x 15 mm, on both sides, secured with galvanised clout nails, dimensions 50 x 3 mm. The construction was applied with two vertical joints at 240 mm from the edges. The dimensions of the total construction were 1450 x 1440 x 140 mm (see figure 2). 2/15 For the wall construction the following type of Norwegian Elko fitting materials were submitted: S57/100 stender hoy ring Code No 4040 S57/100 stender Code No 3012 S57/100 1.5 stender Code No 4045 S57/Dobbel 4 loop stender Code No 3011 All models were provided with gaskets of Envirograf, type 30 at the bottom of the socket see photo 4. Selection of socket models From this series, two models were chosen which should present the complete series of this type of sockets. This were model S57/100 stender hoy ring and S57/Dobbel 4 loop stender The model S57/100 stender is almost the same as the S57/100 stender hoy ring with the difference that the last one is a higher model due to an extra ring to create more volume. The gasket in both models has the same surface and thickness (45 x 45 x 2.5 mm). The model S57/Dobbel 4 loop stender and the S57/100 1.5 stender are both wider models with respectively 2 gaskets (45 x 45 x 2.5 mm) and 1 gasket (45 x 60 x 2.5 mm). The capacity/surface ratio of the tested models is more unfavourable than the not tested models (worse case models), see also additional letter report 2008-Efectis- R0???. At each side of the wall construction two sockets of each model where situated. The sockets were mounted onto the wooden studs and covered with the Fire Line Plasterboards. At the position of the socket a hole was drilled which was only covered with the armature cover (name???), see photo 7. Fire test: The construction was placed in front of our preliminary furnace which was equipped with three temperature sensors and a pressure device. The partition wall was applied with ten surface thermocouples at the positions showed in figure C1. The construction fulfilled the criteria for integrity and thermal insulation during the complete 90 minutes of the test.
The thermal insulation limits were not exceeded, all the surface temperatures stayed below 100 C. The test is based on the European standard EN 1364-1:1999 and assessed according to the Dutch standard NEN 6069: 2005. To achieve information about the fire resistance aspects of the complete range of this product two models of this type of sockets were chosen and tested on January 23, 2007. The partition wall construction as described below was provided with the two models, one of each at the fire side and also at the non-fire side. 1 1 This report is issued by the TNO company Efectis Nederland BV (previously TNO Centre for Fire Research). Date Construction details of partition wall The wall construction consisted of a frame with wooden studs, dimensions 100 x 50 mm with a spacing of 475 mm in the middle and 240 mm near the edges, fixed together with 100 mm screws no. 8. Two layers of Fire Line Plasterboards, thickness 2 x 15 mm, on both sides, secured with galvanised clout nails, dimensions 50 x 3 mm. The construction was applied with two vertical joints at 240 mm from the edges. The dimensions of the total construction was 1450 x 1440 x 140 mm (see also the mentioned preliminary letter report). 2008-Efectis-R0???/LKA 2/2 Construction details of sockets and gaskets: All the sockets were provided with the same type of gasket. The models are used with one or with two gaskets with the following dimensions: 45 x 45 mm and 45 x 60 mm. The at the front side red coloured gasket were glued to the bottom of the socket and had a thickness of approx. 2.5 mm. The capacity of the socket models (without adapter) and the surface of the gaskets are determined and are shown in the table below. Table: 1 Norwegian socket models with Envirograf gaskets product 30 Model Code Socket surface Ratio capacity in [cm 3 ] [cm 2 ] S57/100 stender hoy ring No. 4040 250 20 12.5 S57/100 stender No. 3012 150 20 7.5 S57/100 1.5 stender No. 4045 250 27 9.3 S57/Dobbel 4 loop stender No. 3011 500 40 12.5 Capacity/surface relation The determined capacity of the sockets and the surface of the gaskets show that the increase of the socket capacity is less than the surface increase of the used gasket (ratio). With thes mentioned amount of material each model of this type of sockets should be filled completely in case of a fire. Aim of the test The aim of the test set-up was to check two aspects. The sockets mounted at the nonfire and at the fire side in the mentioned type of wall and the influence of the different gaskets in the sockets. The constructions fulfill the requirements during this test.
Date Additional assessment * : The models of the complete range of above described Norwegian Elko fitting materials implemented in a partition wall constructed of timber and covered with two layers of plasterboard will have a fire resistance according to NEN 6069: 2005 of at least 90 minutes under the conditions: 2008-Efectis-R0???/LKA 3/3 the timber frame has the same dimensions; Fire Line Plasterboard is used, with two layers of 15 mm at each side; the fitting materials are used from this range of products; the sockets are enclosed with Envirograf product 30, intumescent gaskets with a sufficient amount of material to fill the sockets. Remark: * The construction is assessed according to the Dutch standard because only a preliminary test is performed and not a full scale test according to EN 1364-1. The Dutch Standard is similar with the European standard. Since 2005 the Dutch Standard refers for this type of constructions to the European standard EN 1364-1. Yours faithfully, A.J. Lock Dr. Ir.
