XTS-W+ Bearing Condition Monitor
efficient, cost-effective, reevant soutions AMOT has been a pioneering manufacturer of quaity components for marine rotating machinery since 1948 and innovation is something we ve become very good at. AMOT currenty has three manufacturing sites and seven saes offices positioned strategicay around the word to support new buid, ship owners and operators gobay. AMOT recognises the key to your business is keeping your equipment operationa and minimising downtime. We continue to work cosey aongside the technica teams of our customers to ensure our soutions meet their ever-changing needs. Our manufacturing pants are ISO 9001 accredited and many of our products have industry standard certification such as LR, ABS, DNV and BV. We ook forward to working with you. www.bearingwear.com
a proven soution to maximise revenue and reduce costs MAN Diese considers it feasibe to competey omit reguar open-up inspections of any of the three cranktrain bearings featuring an approved bearing condition monitor system connected to the aarm and sowdown system. Source: MAN Diese, Service etter SL08-495 May 2008 The XTS-W+ is a unique, cost-effective and reevant soution that breaks new ground in marine condition monitoring systems. Avoid Open-Up Inspections The major 2-stroke engine maker has stated that if a system such as the XTS-W+ is instaed, open-up inspections of a crank train bearings are no onger required, providing operationa cost savings and removing the high risk of bearing damage during such inspections. Exposure of key personne to potentiay hazardous situations is aso removed, offering a safer working environment. Cost-effective, panned maintenance The XTS-W+ Bearing Condition Monitor provides rea-time data on crank train bearing condition. It dispays the rate of degradation, bearing wear and the water-in-oi content to fuy protect the crank train bearings. The XTS-W+ provides rea time information aowing the user to take appropriate corrective action, thus avoiding consequentia damage, costy unpanned repairs and oss of revenue. Maximum Avaiabiity The XTS-W+ continuay measures the condition of the bearing, offering an intuitive and reiabe definitive measuring device. The fu ife potentia of the bearing can be assessed and in-service time maximised. Easiy instaed, the XTS-W+ is suitabe for both new buid instaations and retrofitting to existing engines. Proven Product The XTS-W+ is Type Approved by Loyd s Register, American Bureau of Shipping and Bureau Veritas. The technoogy deveoped by AMOT is a vauabe component of the condition based maintenance programmes provided by Cassification Societies.
introducing the XTS-W+: a major step towards reducing maintenance costs and maximising revenue The XTS-W+ has been deveoped by AMOT as a bearing condition monitor for 2-stroke ow speed engines. It indicates wear in the crank train: main; crankpin; and crosshead bearings. In addition it can monitor both water in oi content and eectrica potentia between the propeer shaft and hu, both of which may have an adverse effect on bearing ife. A typica system comprises How a typica system works The XTS-W+ maps the characteristics of your individua engine, ensuring accurate rea time measurement of bearing thickness. The sensors convert any physica dispacement due to bearing wear into a pused eectrica signa, which is sent to the signa processing unit. Each microprocessor based SPU generates continuous signas proportiona to the wear detected, compensating for environmenta and engine oad conditions. 2 custom anaogue inductive sensors per cyinder mounted on a bracket ocated on the A frame a touch screen pc mounted in the engine contro room for ong-term data ogging and cass reporting The caibrated SPU communicates wear data to the HMI which provides a cear graphic dispay of bearing wear. Each sensor can be caibrated individuay or simutaneousy. a signa processing unit (SPU) mounted onto the outside of the engine The SPU caibration is fuy automatic with engine protection ony 30 minutes from start-up. a water-in-oi sensor per engine mounted in the main oi feed pipe (optiona) a shaft ine earthing monitor to measure the eectrica potentia between propeer shaft and hu (optiona) proximity sensor shaft ine earthing monitor (SLEM) touch screen pc water in oi sensor (WIO) signa processing unit
Typica dispay screens The XTS-W+ dispays incude: Bar chart showing rea time wear, 3 aarm conditions: green = good, yeow = warning red = aarm, fashing red = engine sow down guide shoe crosshead bearing connecting rod Trend chart showing ong-term wear trends proximity sensor crankpin bearing crankshaft main bearing Water-in-oi dispaying water activity (aw), parts per miion (ppm) and ubrication oi temperature The XTS-W+ uses custom proximity sensors to measure the reative position of each guide shoe, at Bottom Dead Centre (BDC), with respect to the crankcase. Any significant wear in the bearing surfaces resuts in a shift in this measurement, thus faciitating eary detection of a faiure. This measurement technique is used to detect wear in the main, crank-pin and crosshead bearings.
a minor investment for major asset protection Test bed trias The XTS-W has undergone rigorous test bed trias to confirm that it wi operate successfuy under rea bearing faiure conditions. To put the XTS-W through its paces, an acceerated bearing faiure was created on the MAN Diese test bed engine. The XTS-W ceary indicated a main bearing probem, with the eve of wear detected correating to the actua vaue within 0.05mm. No significant ong-term rise in temperature was recorded during the test, temperature aarms were not triggered. Sea trias To fuy test and vaidate the operation and functionaity of the XTS-W, three systems have been on test with AP Møer, Hapag Loyd and Waenius Wihemsen since 2004. These systems are instaed on 50, 68 and 98 cm bore engines to ensure that the system is tested under a variety of operating conditions and vesse types. With over 200 vesses specified by 30 different ship owners, combined operation time exceeds 50 years - making the XTS-W the most proven bearing condition monitor!
protection you cannot afford to be without The XTS-W+ has many benefits. Avoids open-up inspections providing operationa cost savings and removing the risk of damage during such inspections Open-up inspections can be avoided by instaing the foowing monitoring equipment: - Bearing Wear Monitor (BWM) - Water in Oi Monitor (WIO) - Shaft Line Earthing Monitor (SLEM) Provides rea-time information on bearing condition aowing effective operating decisions to be made - maximum uptime, minimum cost The XTS-W+ is simpe to insta on both new buid and existing vesses Better to eiminate the risk of bearing faiure. Better to fit an XTS-W+.
