These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. NOTE: Refer to Parts Information Bulletin (PIB) for the proper color sensors. 1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 2. 3. Remove the trunk rear trim panel (six clips and five hooks). 6 CLIPS TRUNK TRIM PANEL 5. Push on the two tabs, and remove the cargo hook. CARGO HOOK TABS (Push.) 5 HOOKS QB20602BX CARGO HOOK QB20604AX 4. Pull the lever to fold the rear seat back forward. SEAT BACK (Fold forward.) 6. Pull away the weatherstrip. 7. If equipped, remove the trunk panel (ten clips). TRUNK LID Remove the two bumper screws, four selftapping screws, and four clips. 4 SELF-TAPPING SCREWS 10 CLIPS 2 SCREWS TRUNK PANEL QB21401AG 4 CLIPS QB21302BG 8. Remove the rear bumper. On each side of the vehicle, attach masking tape to the rear bumper, taillight, and rear fender as shown. LEFT FENDER Release the seven retaining tabs on each side of the bumper. Release the three retaining tabs on each side of the bumper. LEFT TAILLIGHT 9. Mark the inside of the rear bumper: Locate the four scribe marks on the inside of the rear bumper at the center and left side. Using a pushpin, pierce the rear bumper at the top and center of the two marks. NOTE: There are several markings on the inside of the rear bumper. Before piercing the rear bumper, verify you have the correct locations. NOTE: Make sure to pierce the scribe marks perpendicularly to the rear bumper. SCRIBE MARK MARKS (Pierce perpendicularly.) 3 RETAINING TABS QB21304AG SCRIBE MARK (Not used.) With the help of an assistant, remove the rear bumper (four retaining tabs). Place the rear bumper on a blanket. 4 RETAINING TABS MARKS SCRIBE MARK (Not used.) SCRIBE MARK (Pierce perpendicularly.) QB21402BG 10. Locate the four scribe marks on the inside of the rear bumper at the center and right side. Using a pushpin, pierce the rear bumper at the top and center of the two marks. NOTE: There are several markings on the inside of the rear bumper. Before piercing the rear bumper, verify you have the correct locations. NOTE: Make sure to pierce the scribe marks perpendicularly to the rear bumper. 11. While wearing eye protection, drill all eight pierced marks: NOTE: Make sure to drill perpendicularly to the rear bumper. Using a 3 mm drill bit, drill each pierced marks from the outside of the rear bumper. SCRIBE MARK MARKS 8 HOLES SCRIBE MARK (Not used.) Using a 24 mm hole saw, enlarge the outboard (left and right corner sensor) bumper holes by drilling the lower 3 mm holes. Remove any burrs. Using a 26 mm hole saw, enlarge the inboard (center sensor) bumper holes by drilling the lower 3 mm holes. 12. Using the sensor clips, install the two center sensors (Blue) into the 26 mm holes in the rear bumper. Note the direction and the pin location for each sensor. 14. Plug the four subharness 2-pin connectors into the two center sensors (Blue) and the two corner sensors (White). 2 CENTER CLIPS 2 CENTER S (Blue) CORNER (White) CENTER (Blue) CENTER (Blue) CORNER (White) CENTER S (Blue) QB21407AG 4 SUB 2-PIN S SUB QB21409AG 13. Using the sensor clips, install the two corner sensors (White) into the 24 mm holes in the rear bumper. Note the direction and the pin location for each sensor. 15. Secure the two subharness clips to the two center sensor clips as shown. 16. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the rear bumper where the aluminum tape will attach. SUB 20. Route a piece of steel wire through the trunk area as shown. STEEL WIRE BUZZER ELECTRICAL TAPE STEEL WIRE ALUMINUM TAPE PANEL Clean with isopropyl alcohol. QB21411AG 17. Secure the subharness to the rear bumper with the aluminum tape. 18. Using scissors, cut one urethane tape in half. Wrap the two cut pieces of urethane tape around the buzzer harness at the measurements shown. LEFT TRUNK SIDE TRIM PANEL OPENING BUZZER QB41709AB 21. Attach the connector end of the buzzer harness to the steel wire using electrical tape. 22. Gently pull the steel wire to route the harness through the trunk area. Remove the electrical tape and remove the steel wire. URETHANE TAPE (Cut in half.) 20 mm (0.8 in.) PANEL 20 mm (0.8 in.) BUZZER 10 mm (0.4 in.) 20 mm (0.8 in.) 80 mm (3.1 in.) STEEL WIRE (Remove.) URETHANE TAPE QB41708AB 19. Using scissors, cut one urethane tape into three pieces. Wrap the two 80 mm cut pieces of urethane tape around the buzzer harness at the measurements shown. 23. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the vehicle panel where the buzzer will attach. 26. Route the backup sensor harness as shown, and plug the backup sensor harness 2-pin connector into the buzzer harness 2-pin connector. ADHESIVE BACKING (Remove.) BUZZER 2-PIN BUZZER 2-PIN PANEL Clean with isopropyl alcohol. BUZZER 2-PIN QB41711AB 24. Remove the adhesive backing from the buzzer and attach it to the vehicle panel. NOTE: Make sure the buzzer is attached in the correct position. Do not cover the installation holes. 25. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the fuse case where the fuse label will attach. Attach 2A fuse label to the fuse case on the backup sensor harness. URETHANE TAPE (Cut in step 19.) URETHANE TAPE 27. Wrap the remaining piece of urethane tape (cut in step 19) around the buzzer harness 2-pin connector. 28. Gently pull the backup sensor harness 2-pin connector into the vehicle panel opening. PAN- EL OPENING Align. 29. Secure the backup sensor harness to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. CLIP 32. Route the backup sensor harness along the vehicle harness, and secure it to the vehicle harness with four wire ties. Secure the wire ties beside the vehicle clips. WIRE TIE WIRE TIES BRANCH SECTION (Align.) QB21505BG 30. Align the green tape on the backup sensor harness with the vehicle clip, and secure the backup sensor harness to the vehicle harness with one wire tie as shown. WIRE TIE 33. Unplug the vehicle 2-pin connector (Green) from the left taillight, and plug it to the backup sensor harness 2-pin connector. 2-PIN (Green) LEFT TAILLIGHT QB21507CG CLIP 2-PIN GREEN TAPE (Align.) 34. Plug the backup sensor harness 2-pin connector into the left taillight. 2-PIN LEFT TAILLIGHT 37. Install the control unit bracket to the control unit. Loosely install the flange bolt to the control unit bracket. FLANGE BOLT (Loosely install.) CONTROL UNIT BRACKET 2-PIN S WIRE TIE CONTROL UNIT QB21511BG QB21509AG 35. Secure the 2-pin connectors to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. 38. Plug the backup sensor harness 14-pin connector into the control unit. CONTROL UNIT 36. Route the backup sensor harness along the vehicle harness, and secure it to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. 39. Secure the control unit to the vehicle panel with the flange bolt loosely installed in step 37 as shown. 41. Route the backup sensor harness along the vehicle harness. CONTROL UNIT PANEL FLANGE BOLT (Loosely installed in step 37.) GROMMET Slide. PANEL CLIP GROMMET (Discard.) PANEL QB21601BG LEFT TRUNK SIDE TRIM PANEL OPENING QB21513CG 40. Secure the clip on the backup sensor harness to the vehicle panel. 42. Locate and remove the vehicle grommet from the rear panel. 43. Route the backup sensor harness through the hole, and seat the grommet on the backup sensor harness in the vehicle panel hole. NOTE: Do not pull on the backup sensor harness when installing the grommet. 44. 45. If equipped with vehicle harness, install the wire tie with holder to the backup sensor harness 8-pin connector, and secure it to the vehicle harness. 47. With the help of an assistant, bring the rear bumper next to the rear of the vehicle, plug the subharness 8-pin connector into the backup sensor harness 8-pin connector, and reinstall the rear bumper. 8-PIN 8-PIN WIRE TIE WITH HOLDER WIRE TIE WITH HOLDER 8-PIN QB21603AG 46. Install the connector clip to the backup sensor harness 8-pin connector, and secure it to the vehicle panel. 8-PIN CLIP SUB 8-PIN QB21605AG 48. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and that all connectors are plugged in. 49. Reinstall all removed parts. 50. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 51. Press and hold the radio power button for two seconds to restore the radio and navi (if equipped) system functions. 52. Reset the clock on vehicle without navigation. 53. Check that the backup sensors work properly as described in the Accessory User s Information Manual supplied with the backup sensor kit. Adjust the Volume Control The factory setting is maximum volume. After confirming the operation, turn the volume control knob to the appropriate level, using a small flat-tip screwdriver.
