2 TAP-CHANGERS FOR POWER TRANSFORMERS PRODUCT GUIDE Vacuum on-load tap-changers Our new generation of tap-changers utilize the most recent vacuum interrupter technology. This design philosophy allows the arcs during load commutations to occur in vacuum interrupters and not in the tap-changer oil. This greatly reduces the need for maintenance and creates the potential for using environmental-friendly insulating fluids. Final product dependability is ensured through extensive testing beyond international standards combined with decades of experience from developing technical solutions. ABB offers a full range of products for both high voltage and low voltage regulation. Our tap-changers are paired with robust, dependable motor drives that are configurable to meet a wide range of environmental conditions and customer specifications. From the compact BUL and versatile BUE for in-tank tap changers to the digitally controlled SMD with integrated Tap Logic Monitoring System (TLMS) for the type VRLTC tap-changer. 01 On-load tap-changer type VRLTC 02 On-load tap-changer type VUBB

4 TAP-CHANGERS FOR POWER TRANSFORMERS PRODUCT GUIDE Conventional on-load tap-changers Unsurpassed simplicity, convenient accessibility and no requirements for special tools is the hallmark of our conventional tap-changers. ABB s customer-focused design philosophy has stood the test of time for over 100 years and resulted in designs with fewer parts and lower maintenance costs. In addition to increased reliability, tapchangers with fewer parts allow for considerable reduction in size and cost. Our tap-changers are matched with trustworthy, rugged motor drives that are configurable to meet a wide range of environmental conditions and customer specifications. From the compact BUL and versatile BUE for in-tank tap changer models to the fully integrated BUF for the type UZ on-tank tap-changer. 05 On-load tap-changer type UZ 06 On-load tap-changer type UBB

6 TAP-CHANGERS FOR POWER TRANSFORMERS PRODUCT GUIDE De-energized tap-changers Our designs are proven solutions with decades of successful field experience. Their simplicity and ease of installation make ABB s de-energized tap-changers the preferred solution by transformer manufacturers worldwide. Multiple deck arrangements make our designs the most space saving de-energized tap changers available in the market. Both bridging and linear options are available with ratings up to 4000 A and 1050 kv BIL. And, with little to no required maintenance, our designs have proven to be an ideal solution to both utility and industrial customers. TAP-CHANGERS FOR POWER TRANSFORMERS PRODUCT GUIDE 7 Life cycle support We are committed to stand behind our products for as long as they are in operation. Product support, documentation and training is therefore essential. This includes immediate availability of parts for all models, 24-hour access to support personnel and the existence of a global reporting network. Some of our UC tap-changer types are possible to upgrade without the need to rebuild; they can be upgraded with vacuum technology as quickly and as easily as performing a normal overhaul. In many cases this makes it possible to increase the tap-changers nominal load and at the same time benefit from all the advantages associated with vacuum technology. 13 Upgrading conventional diverter switch UCG to vacuum type VUCG.
