! Important Safety Rules! DANGER 1.) Read safety manual completely. Serious injury or death will result if safety instructions are not followed. Keep children away from the auger. 2.) Rotating auger Hazard. Entanglement in auger will cause serious injury or death. Keep away from auger when engine is running. -Do not clean auger while the engine is on. Auger can grab objects such as shovels and throw them. -Do not remove cotterless hitch pins or auger while engine is running. -Use only cotterless hitch pins provided with machine 3.)Buried cables and pipes. -Auger will cut through buried electrical cables and gas pipes resulting in serious injury or death. -Call utilities before drilling holes. 4.)Tip-over and crush hazard. -Machine can rill away, tip over, and crush you. -Do not drill on hills steeper than 15 Machine is hard to control on steeper hills. 1.) Debris entanglement.! WARNING Rotating auger can get tangled in debris left on ground resulting in serious injury and damage to machine. Before digging, make sure area is clear of debris that can wind around auger during operation. 2.) Flying objects. Rock and dirt may fly out while drilling. Wear safety glasses. Keep bystanders 20ft away. Serious injury can occur. -Do not tie trigger. -Make sure nuts and bolts are tight before operating. 3

! Important Safety Rules 3.) Towing hazards. WARNING Serious injury or death can happen if towing safety rules are not followed. -Only tow the post hole digger with the auger removed. -Be aware of the length the post hole digger adds to your vehicle. -Only tow with safety chains attached to vehicle. -Never ride or transport cargo on the post hole digger. -Never tow or operate post hole digger while under the influence of alcohol, drug, or medication. 4.) Fire hazard. Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. You can be burned or seriously injured when handling fuel. -Stop the engine while fueling and keep heat, spark, and flame away. -Handle fuel only outdoors. Wipe up spills immediately. 5.) Tip-over hazard. High pressure fluid can inject under shin resulting in serious injury including amputation. -Make sure all fitting are tight before applying pressure. Relieve system pressure before servicing. -Do not check for leaks with hand. Instead, use a piece of cardboard to check for leaks. If skin injection happens, seek immediate Surgical Treatment. 6.) Breathing hazard. Poisonous fumes from engine will kill you. Do not operate the post hole digger in enclose areas even if ventilated. 1.) Hot muffler. You can be burned by muffler. Do not touch.! CAUTION Save These Instructions 4

Fastener Identification 6

Assembly Instruction 1. Attach the Fuel Tank Assembly - Use Bolt M20x60, Lock Washer Ø20, M20 Nut and M20 Lock Nut to assemble the Fuel Tank to the Frame Assembly. - Tighten 7

Assembly Instruction 2. Wheel assembly. - Use Bolt M12x1.25x25 to assemble the wheel to the axle. 8

Assembly Instruction 3. Attach boom. - Line up holes on boom with holes in axle. - Attach boom to axle with M10x35 Flange bolts, Flat Washer Ø10, Lock Washer Ø10 and M10 nuts. -Then tighten. 9

Assembly Instruction 4. Attach hose retaining bracket. Line up holes in handle with holes in hose retaining bracket. -Slide retaining bracket over wire loom. -Fasten retaining bracket to handle with (2) M6x20 bolts, (2) M6 nuts, (2) Ø6 Flat Washer and (2) Ø6 Lock Washer. -Tighten. 10

Assembly Instruction 5. Feed hydraulic hoses and wires through the boom. -For this step, it is a good idea to prop the handle assembly on a bench while you feed the bundle of hoses and wires through the boom. 11

Assembly Instruction 6. Attach handle assembly to boom. -Slide handle pivot tube into the boom. -Install M10x35 bolt and Ø10 flat washer through the boom pivot bracket and into the nut welded to the handle assembly. -Tighten bolt until handle is secure and does not rotate. -Thread M10 nut onto the end of the M10x35.Do not tighten the nut against the weld nut; the nut acts as a stop so that the M10x35 bolt cannot fall out or be loosened too far when making adjustments. 12

Assembly Instruction 7. Connect hydraulic hoses. -Make sure the hoses and protective sleeving form a big loop; this will help the engine pivot and stay level. -Attach hydraulic hose 2400 to pump outlet. -Attach hydraulic hose 2550 to the hydraulic filter. -Tuck wires and loom under the engine mount plate. 13

Assembly Instruction 8. Wire connections. -Locate wire bundle and gas tank mount stud and nut on engine. -Pull loom from under engine plate into position for attachment. -Remove gas tank mount nut, attach white wire to stud, and replace nut. -Locate snap-in plug in wire bundle and connect to snap-in receptacle. 14

Assembly Instruction 9. Attach the towing coupler. -Fasten the towing coupler to the axle/reservoir/engine assembly with (2) M12x80 bolts, (2) Ø12 Flat Washer and (2) M12 nylon lock nut. Tighten. -Attach the towing chains to the towing chain mount plate with (2) M12x45 bolts, (2) Ø12 flat washers and (2) M12 nylon lock nuts. Bolt the first link in each towing chain. Tighten until sung. 15

Assembly Instruction 10. Attach the auger coupler. -Locate the end of the auger coupler with two holes. This is the end of the auger coupler that points up into the motor shaft. -Slide auger coupler into motor shaft and lock in place with a Lock Pin Ø10x65. -Place Ø10x32 cotterless hitch pin in its storage location. This is the travel pin and will be used for moving and towing the post hole digger. 16

Filling the Hydraulic Tank 1.) Remove breather cap from the hydraulic oil fill tube. 2.) Fill hydraulic tank with 10 wt hydraulic oil approximately one inch from the top of the tank. 3.) Fill engine crankcase with SAE 30 motor oil and fill gas tank with gas (see engine manual).pull engine recoil rope 3-4 times to prime the pump before actually staring the engine. 4.) Start the engine and run at slow idle. 5.) Pull right trigger until motor shaft spins smoothly. 6.) Stop the engine. Relieve system pressure by moving the trigger back and forth while the engine is OFF. Check the hydraulic oil level again and fill to one inch from the top of the tank. Replace breather cap. 7.) Start engine and run at full speed. 8.) Pull left trigger until motor shaft spins smoothly. 9.) Stop the engine and relieve system pressure. Check hydraulic oil level again. Add oil if needed to reach the final oil level of 1 inch from the top of the tank. Total hydraulic oil capacity is 4 gallons. 17

Filling the Hydraulic Tank 1.) Trigger. The trigger is used to start, stop, and reverse the auger. 2.) Emergency Stop Switch. The operator can turn the engine off using the emergency stop switch. 3.) Auger Handle. Use the handle to move the auger into position. 4.) Hydraulic Motor. The hydraulic motor spins the auger clockwise or counter-clockwise for digging down or reversing up out of holes. 5.) Control Valve. The control valve directs the hydraulic oil to the hydraulic motor. 6.) Workport Hoses. The workport hoses bring the hydraulic oil from the control valve to the hydraulic motor. 7.) Pivot Bolt. Use the pivot bolt to rotate the handle and auger when digging on a slope. 8.) Hydraulic Oil Fill Tube. Used for adding or checking hydraulic oil. 9.) Engine. The air-cooled engine powers the hydraulic system. 10.) Towing Coupler. Attaches the post hole digger to your vehicle. 11.) Engine Pivot. The engine bracket pivots so the engine can remain level while digging holes. 12.) Hydraulic Reservoir. The hydraulic reservoir holds the hydraulic oil used in the hydraulic system. 13.) Hydraulic Filter. The hydraulic pump moves the hydraulic oil through the system. 14.) Strainer. The strainer pre-cleans the hydraulic oil before it enters the hydraulic system. 15.) Hydraulic Pump. The hydraulic pump moves the hydraulic oil through the system. 16.) Auger. Used for digging. 18

! Operation Instructions Operating Zones. Serious accidents can occur when other people are allowed into the operating zones or when the machine is operated from somewhere other than the operating zones. Keep all bystanders 20 feet from the post hole digger and never operate the machine from a position other than the defined operating zones.! DANGER 1.) Rotating auger hazard Entanglement in auger will cause serious injury or death. Keep away from auger when engine is running. -Do not clean auger while it is turning. Auger can grab objects such as shovels and throw them dangerously. -Never replace the auger attaching pin with longer pin. 2.) Buried cables and pipes. Call utilities before drilling holes. Auger will cut through buried electrical cables and gas pipes resulting in serious injury or death 19

! Operation Instructions Proper Operation of the Post Hole Digger 1.) Place the post hole digger in proper location for hole to be dug. 2.) Orient the machine so that it is as level as possible. If drilling on a hill, place the machine on a side-hill so it will not away or towards you while digging. 3.) If the machine is on the side of a hill, loosen the pivot bolt, rotate the handle to the desired angle, and retighten the pivot bolt. DANGER Tip-over and crush hazard Do not drill on hills steeper than 15.Machine is hard to control on steeper hills. Machine can roll away, Tip over, and crush you. 21

! Operation Instructions 4.) Start the engine. Refer to the engine owner s manual. Make sure that the on/off switch on the engine and the emergency kill switch on the handle are both in the ON position. 5.) Use the auger handle to position the auger s pilot bit to the center of the hole to be dug. 6.) Squeeze the right side of the trigger to dig. 7.) As you dig, push the post hole digger away from you. This will compensate for the pivoting action pf the machine and keep your hole straight and vertical. 8.) Periodically lift the auger to clear loose dirt from the hole. This will help to keep the auger from binding as well as minimize the dirt being lifted out of the hole. 9.) If the auger becomes stuck, squeeze the left side of the trigger to reverse the rotation of the auger. 22

! Operation Instructions Moving the Post Hole Digger. Towing hazards.! WARNING Serious injury or death can happen if towing safety rules are not followed. -Only tow the post hole digger with the auger removed. -Be away of the length the post hole digger adds to your vehicle. -Only tow with towing chains attached to vehicle. -Never ride or transport cargo on the post hole digger. -Never tow or operate the post hole digger while under the influence of alcohol. Drugs,or medication. 23

! Maintenance and Storage Before performing maintenance, the post hole digger must be placed in maintenance mode. 1.) Turn engine off. 2.) Squeeze the trigger forward and reverse to relieve hydraulic pressure. 3.) Disconnect engine spark plug.! After performing maintenance, make sure all guards, shields, and safety features are put back in place. Failure to follow this warning can result in serious injury Refer to the engine owner s manual for engine maintenance. What When How Tires Each Trip Check pressure. The pressure rating is listed on the tire. Hoses Each use Inspect for exposed wire mesh and leaks. Replace all worn or damaged hose before starting engine. Hydraulic Fittings Each use Inspect for cracks and leak. Replace all damaged Fittings before starting engine. Nuts and Bolts Each use Check for loose bolts Moving Parts Each use Clear debris Hydraulic Filter Annually Replace with factory approved filter, p/n 4021. Suction Strainer Annually Rinse off debris. Storage 1.) Remove gasoline from engine or add fuel stabilizer to the gasoline to prevent gumming. 2.) If adding stabilizer, run engine for five minutes. Turn engine off. 3.) Squeeze the trigger forward and reverse with the engine OFF to relieve hydraulic pressure. 4.) Remove spark plug from the engine. 5.) Pour one teaspoon of engine oil into spark plug hole. Cove spark plug hole with a rag and turn engine over several times to lubricate the cylinder. 6.) Replace spark plug. 7.) Never store the post hole digger where fumes might reach an open flame or spark. Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure.! WARNING Skin injection hazard High pressure fluid can inject under shin resulting in serious injury including amputation. -Make sure all fittings are tight before applying pressure. Relieve system pressure before servicing. -Do not check for leaks with hand. Instead, use a piece of cardboard to check for leaks. -If skin injection happens, seek immediate Surgical Treatment. 24

! Maintenance and Storage Checking the linkage. 1.) Squeeze the digging side of the trigger. Check to see that the spool in the control valve is pushed in against its stop. If the trigger hits against the handle before the spool is pushing I against its stop, the linkage needs to be adjusted. 2.) Squeeze the reverse side of the trigger. Check to see that the spool in the control valve is pulled out against its shop. One again, if the trigger hits against the handle before the spool is pulled out to its stop, the linkage needs to be adjusted. Adjusting the linkage. 1.) Place a screwdriver into the spool clevis to keep the linkage from turning. Loosen the nut from the ball coupler. Remove the screwdriver. 2.) If the digging side of the trigger needs to be adjusted, turn the linkage counterclockwise (ccw). If the reverse side of the trigger needs to be adjusted, turn the linkage clockwise (cw). Check your progress periodically by squeezing the digging side of the trigger. The linkage has been successfully reset when the spool is pushed in against its stop at the same time the trigger hits against the handle. 3.) Place the screwdriver back into the spool clevis and tighten the locking nut against the ball coupler. Locking Nut Trigger Handle Screwdriver Control valve Ball coupler Linkage Spool and clevis 25

See engine owner s manual. Q- Engine/reservoir not pivoting freely Remove any obstructions from pivoting mechanism and ensure that hoses are in a big, vertical loop. R- Hill is too steep Orient the machine differently on the hill to reduce digging angle. S- In the act of pressurizing and depressurizing, None. It is normal for swivel fittings to weep swivel fittings can lose their seal for a brief moment. When the direction of the hydraulic motor is changed, small amounts of hydraulic fluid may leak. small amounts of fluid. However, if fluid is spraying or running out of any hose or fitting, discontinue use immediately and replace the defective part. 26
