INSTALLATION 4. Remove the tailgate left and right side trim pieces (two retaining tabs and two clips each). Client Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. 2 CLIPS NOTE: Do not damage the paint finish. Before removing parts from the vehicle, note their locations and how they are installed so they can be reinstalled in the original positions. 2 CLIPS 1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio unit and the navigation system (if equipped), then write down the radio station presets. 2. Open the tailgate. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 3. Remove the tailgate center trim (two retaining tabs and four clips). LEFT SIDE TRIM RIGHT SIDE TRIM 933102BD 5. Remove the power tailgate switch (two retaining tabs and unplug the vehicle connector). POWER SWITCH 4 CLIPS CENTER TRIM 933101BD VEHICLE PULL POCKET 962510BD 6. Remove the tailgate pull pocket (two retaining tabs). 7. Remove two lining clips. 9. Remove the tailgate lining (two lining clips and eleven clips). CLIP Push. CLIP CLIP Push. 10. Remove five nuts, then unplug the high mount stop light harness 2-pin connector. VIEWED FROM BELOW 11. Release the two clips by putting an 8 mm deep socket over the end of each clip and pushing on the clip to compress it. VIEWED FROM BELOW NUTS CLIPS VEHICLE 2-PIN 5 NUTS Discard. HARNESS 2-PIN 933104BD 8 mm DEEP SOCKET 2 CLIPS Push to release. QA80216AB 12. Close the tailgate. 13. Remove the high mount stop light (two washer-screws). 16. Secure the high mount stop light to the two brackets with the two washer-screws removed in step 13. VEHICLE 2 WASHER- SCREWS Reuse. 940102AD 14. Insert the high mount stop light into the new tailgate spoiler as shown. 2 SCREWS Tighten. WASHER-SCREWS QA80212AB 17. Tighten the two screws loosely installed in step 15. 18. Install four bolts onto the tailgate spoiler. Make sure they are fully seated. 2 BRACKETS 2 SCREWS Install loosely. 19. While wearing eye protection, enlarge the two outer holes in the tailgate with a 7 mm drill bit. To prevent damage to the inner panel, wrap tape around the drill bit 5 mm away from the tip as shown. DRILL DRILL BIT 24. Route the high mount stop light harness through the hole in the tailgate. Install the grommet into the hole. 4 BOLTS 7 mm DRILL BIT 5 mm TAPE HOLE HARNESS 2 HOLES Drill the center. 950702DD 20. Apply touch-up paint to the edges of the holes and allow it to dry thoroughly. 21. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the areas where the seals will attach. 2 ADHESIVE BACKINGS Remove. GROMMET QA80215AB 25. Install the four bolts on the tailgate spoiler into the four holes. 26. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 27. Open the tailgate. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 2 SEALS 2 CLIP HOLES Clean with isopropyl alcohol. SHOP TOWEL QA80214AB 22. Remove the adhesive backings from two seals, and attach the seals to the tailgate over the clip holes. 23. 28. Secure the tailgate spoiler to the tailgate with four nuts and one screw. Torque the four nuts to 8.8 N m (0.9 kgf m, 6.5 lbf ft). Torque the screw to 3.0 N m (0.3 kgf m, 2.2 lbf ft). SCREW 4 NUTS HARNESS 2-PIN VEHICLE 2-PIN 940205CD 29. Plug the high mount stop light harness 2-pin connector to the vehicle 2-pin connector. 30. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 31. Reinstall all removed parts. 32. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 33. Enter the anti-theft code for the audio and navigation system (if equipped), and reset the radio station presets. 34. Reset the clock. 2011 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. All Rights Reserved.
