Features For years, McQuay international has earned a reputation for providing the industry s various highest quality and most technologically advanced air handling systems. Now McQuay is proud to introduce the new MDM series air-handling unit. Inherited from the advantage of the earlier product experiences and introduced the most up to date technology, the new McQuay air handling units is designed to meet the highest industry standards. The new series AHU adopt modulus design and have more reasonable structure and more flexible combination functional modules. It can widely apply to various situation where central air handling is required such as emporium, hotel, commercial building and other stringent applications where clean and conditioned air is essential such as surgical operating theatres and semi-conductors fabricating facilities, etc. High-Strength The new high-strength frame of each unit is fabricated from heavy gauge aluminium extrusion formed unto a rigid construction and incorporating die-cast aluminium corner pieces. Besides the above, the double skinned panel has special structure in it to strengthen the panel. The McQuay MDM Air Handling unit is strong enough to perform at high pressures than typically bow panels on ordinary units. Low Air Leakage Design Assures High Thermal And Filtration Efficiencies The McQuay MDM Air Handling Unit has its unique spring steel slice design to incorporate the flame and the panel. By the unique design the frame and panel can be incorporate more tightly to provide maximum strength and prevent air leakage. Standard insulation is polyurethane foam frame members are tightly and rigidly fixed together to provide the best insulating feature. The low leakage rates minimize the ingress of unfiltered air and energy loss to give you exceptional performance. Excellent Thermal Barrier All the frame and channels are insulated with the UPVC insulation gasket to create a thermal barrier between the internal and the external panels. This design eliminates cold bridges to provide efficient thermal performance and prevent the air handling units from sweating during operation. Improved Indoor Air Quality Designed to be as easy to maintain, as it is to install, the McQuay MDM Air Handling Unit offers extended coil connections and hinged access doors, or lift off panels. Unit sections can be thoroughly cleaned to reduce the potential for indoor air quality problems. In addition, the slopped and painted galvanized steel cooling coil drain pan reduces the risk of algae and fungi build up and prevents corrosion. The glazed inner surface assures that no fibers will be released into the air stream and no internal moisture will penetrate the insulation to support microbial growth. All these insure the IAQ provided by McQuay MDM. Internal Motor & Fan Isolation To insure that noise and vibration are compatible with the intended use of the conditioned air space, good acoustical and vibration blower and motor engineering practices should be applied during the early stages of design. While most applications require vibration isolation, McQuay MDM Air Handlers are available with factory installed internal isolation for all unit sizes. Internally isolated units feature internally mounted 1 deflection spring isolators sized specifically for each fan wheel and motor size. Internal fan and motor mounted on spring isolated galvanized steel base provides low noise operation and minimum vibration transmission. Break out noise is further attenuated by the double-skinned panel construction. Since internal isolation minimizes vibration at the source (fan and motor), there is seldom a 2

need for flexible connection on ductwork or coil piping. Internal isolation provides an opportunity for significantly reduced installation costs. McQuay also can provide function such as mixing section, exhaust section, access section, attenuation section, humidifier section, electric heating section, heating coil section, secondary mixing section, distribution and heat recovery section, etc. All these sections can be neatly combined to gain corresponding function. 3

Filter Section Good air quality is of utmost importance. A key ingredient in maintaining good air quality is air filtration. Our standard configuration of the filter is flat panel pre-filter and the material is non-moving cloth with the efficiency G3. The bag media filter and HEPA filter are optional. Mixing Section When outside and return air mixing is needed, a mixing box section can be selected. The damper on the mixing box will regulate the amount of outside and return air supplied to the conditioned space. The proportion of the return air and fresh air depend on the need of the design. In general the amount of return air is larger than that of the fresh air, so in order to economize the length of the unit, we often put the fresh air damper on the top of the unit. The damper used for our unit has lower leakage rate at higher static pressure. It can maximize the energy efficiency. Installation Receiving All units leaving the McQuay plant have been inspected to ensure the shipment of quality products. All reasonable means are utilized to properly package the air handing units. Carefully inspect all shipments immediately upon delivery. When damage is visible, note this fact on the carrier s freight bill and request that the carrier sends a representative to inspect the damage. This may be done by telephone or in person, but should always be confirmed in writing. The shipment should be unpacked in the presence of the agent so that the extent of the damage or loss can be determined. The carrier s agent will make an inspection report and a copy will be given to the consignee for forwarding to the carrier with a formal claim. Rigging Air handling units are shipped on skids with sections bolted together as determined by truck or rail size limitations. Figure 1 illustrates the proper rigging to be used in moving the Air handling units. Ropes or cables are to be placed around the unit across the bottom channels. Spreader bars must be used to avoid damage to the top of the unit. Caution must be exercised to the coil connections, operator arm for units with variable inlet vanes, and damper operators are not damaged. Figure 1 Storage If the units are to be stored out of doors, prior to installation within the building, special care should be taken to protect the units from dust, rain, snow, and rodents. The units should be protected from constant exposure to rain and snow. 25

Foundation The floor and foundation on which the units are to be located shall be rigid and level to avoid vibration and assure proper venting and draining. The structure shall be capable of supporting the weight of the unit, including the fan motor and the water or refrigerant within the coils. Pitch the piping toward an open drain and install a plug to facilitate cleaning. Install a cap on the drain connection not used. Trap the drain line as shown in Figure 2. H dimension to be minimum of 1/2 plus total static pressure. A minimum length of foundation on which the units are to be located must be provided to assure installing the trap and drain plug. Figure 2 Unit Installation Installation and maintenance should be performed by qualified persons who are familiar with local code and regulation, and experienced with this type of appliance. 1) Prior to installation, clean the inside of the units. (Caution: Sharp edges and coil surfaces are potential locations, which may cause injury hazards. Avoid from being in contact with these places) 2) Prior to installation, check the ease of operation of the moving components and the regulation equipment by hand. 3) Allow sufficient space around the unit for opening the access door, adjusting belt tension, and removing filters, motor and drive package. A minimum clearance equal to the width of the unit must be provided on one side of the unit for removing the coil, shaft, and wheel. 4) The ductwork can not be supported by the unit only, it must be supported by other hangers or stands. 5) Ductwork, which is connected to the fan discharge should run in a straight line for at least 1-1/2 fan diameters and should not be reduced in cross sectional area. 6) The gasket material with a pressure sensitive adhesive should be attached to the mating flanges before the bolts are placed in the flanges to secure the matching unit sections, in order to avoid air leakage or cold bridge. 7) Check the cleanliness of the filter before installation. 8) Install the filter after the installation of all other components. 26
