Daimler Commitment to SCR Strategic Plan for Emission Compliance First Customer Test Vehicles Daimler Commits to SCR Technology for Worldwide Truck Market Considered Introduction of SCR for 2007 SCR first introduced into European Market Detroit Diesel introduces DD13 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Detroit Diesel begins development of HDEP Program (DD13, DD15, DD16) Detroit Diesel introduces DD15 BlueTec SCR Start of Production Reliability Growth Fleet Testing of BlueTec in N. America Detroit Diesel introduces DD16 2

Why SCR Works SCR Technical Approach - System Integration Allow engine out emission level to increase Optimize engine performance and maintenance Reduce soot loading of particulate filter Control NOx emissions with Aftertreatment

How SCR Works Exhaust leaves the engine with the pollutants NOx and PM Particulate Matter (PM) is trapped in the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) = Exhaust = Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) DEF injected into the exhaust stream NOx PM DEF NOx PM DEF solution hydrolyzes into ammonia gas (NH3) which mixes with the exhaust Fuel efficiency gains are a result of the emission reduction process occurring downstream NH3 SCR Catalyst H 2 O N 2 Ammonia (NH3) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) react in the catalyst to form Nitrogen and Water 4

Fuel Economy, MPG 6 5.8 5.6 5.4 5.2 5 4.8 2010 Fuel Economy There has NEVER been an emissions solution that improves fuel economy until now. 7 MPG 7 MPG Using BlueTec means: Up to 5% fuel economy advantage over a comparable EPA07 engine, DEF consumption expected to be 2% 6.3 MPG Net fuel economy advantage = 3% BlueTec Brings Fuel Economy Back to Pre-EGR Levels 1998 2002 2004 2007 2010 Series 60 DD15 5

Fuel Economy Penalty, % In 2010, Detroit Diesel engines will go 45-90 hours between particulate filter regenerations. 3.5 3.0 EPA 07 DD engines regenerate every 325 miles costing about 3.2% in fuel 2010 Fuel Economy 2.5 2.0 1.5 1.0 Our 2010 engines will regenerate less often reducing the fuel economy penalty 0.5 0.0 0 500 1000 1500 2000 2500 3000 3500 Regeneration Interval, miles 7

1-Box Flow The following diagram illustrates the flow of exhaust through the DOC and DPF. Then where the DEF enters the hydrolysis pipe and eventually meets the exhaust in the SCR device. Detroit Diesel s dual parallel flow (ATD & SCR catalyst) reduces backpressure on the engine thus increasing fuel efficiency. Item Component 1 Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) 2 Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) 3 SCR Devices 4 DEF Hydrolysis Pipe 2 1 1 2 3 3 4 8

SCR Equipment DDC s own unique approach to SCR includes some new major components for 2010: BlueTec 1-Box 1-Box or 2-Box contains ATD & SCR catalyst DEF plastic storage tank (6, 13, 23 gallon sizes) Aftertreatment Control Module (ACM) DEF Tank ACM 9

DEF Tanks Cold Weather Operation: Tanks are engine coolant heated DEF delivery lines are electrically heated 13 gal 23 gal 6 gal Fill necks do not allow insertion of diesel nozzle into DEF tank (magnetic lock option being developed) Tank Size Fuel Cap Range (miles) 6 gal 100 gal 1,800 13 gal 200 gal 3,900 23 gal 300+ gal 6,900 10

Specifications / Packaging The DEF tank, 1-Box configuration (or 2-Box configuration), Aftertreatment Control Module (ACM) as well as some supporting hardware are engineered to fit efficiently into the chassis.
