SERIES 13A FEATURES Automatic Shuttle Bar Feed Unit The Series 13A Automatic Indexing Shuttle unit is 5' 0" (1524 mm) long. The Shuttle assembly has a stroke of 15" (381 mm) and is powered by a hydraulic cylinder to position the work to the required cut-off length. The Shuttle is fitted with non-metallic inserts and moves on replaceable hardened slide ways. An oi ler system provides lubrication for the Shuttle Ways. An automatic indexing Vise with 7" (178 mm) high jaws clamps and unclamps in conjunction with the sequencing of the shuttle and machine Vise mounted on the saw itself. Digital Readout for Cut..Off Lengths The Shuttle stroke length is set from this convenient control located at the operator's position. The handwheel is turned until the desired length is digitally displayed in inches and tenths of an inch. Readout to thousandths of an inch is obtained on the circular decimal dial. A locking screw holds the desired setting as long as required. Blade kerf is automatically included in the shuttle stroke setting. An optional metric digital readout is available. Powerful Blade Drive with Convenient Speed Control (shown with guard removed) The 1" (25 mm) wide band blade is driven by a 3 HP (2.2kW) electric motor transmitting torque through variable speed pulleys and a rugged worm gear speed reducer. The drive band wheel is direct-connected to the worm gear drive which has anti-friction taper roller bearings on the input shaft and a combination single row and double row bearing on the output shaft. Infinitely variable blade speeds from 60 to 450 sfpm (18 to 137m/min) are manually set and easily read on the speed dial (inset).
Cam-Controlled Hydraulic Feed Compensation The (Patented) cam-controlled hydraulic feed system automatically compensates for the varying gravitational forces acting on the descending saw frame to ensure a substantially constant feed pressure on the saw blade throughout each cutting cycle. The cam is precisely contoured to match the angular position of the blade frame and it actuates a valve which, in turn, varies the hydraulic back pressure in the feed cylinder. Quickly Adjustable Blade Guide Ann Blade Guide Arms must be placed as close to the workpiece as possible to prevent blade deflection and inaccurate cut-off. A lock on the left (moveable) Guide Arm makes this adjustment a quick, easy operation. Each Guide Arm is equipped with spring loaded, carbide faced guides which maintain correct blade alignment. The Back-Up Carbide Guides are adjustable by means of an eccentric to ensure constant contact with the back of the blade. Coolant is applied to the blade through the Blade Guide. Arms. Coolant flow is adjustable at the point of discharge. Powered Blade Brush A wire brush driven by a Poly-Vee Belt from a pulley integral with the driven band wheel effectively removes chips from the gullets of the blade teeth. Brush rotation is at a speed calculated for most efficient chip clearing. In addition, a Blade Wiper Assembly is mounted at the top of the frame to return coolant and stray chips to the machine bed. 5
J.I.C. Electrical& All electrical equipment in Series 13A machines conforms to J.I.C. Standard for General Purpose Machine Tools (EGP-1-1967) and National Electrical Code NEMA No. 701978. This includes an Automatic Magnetic Motor Starter with overload and no voltage protection. A transformer provides low voltage (115V) to operator controls and to the machine lighting circuit. A fused disconnect switch interlocks with the electrical compartment door. Electrical wiring shown is contained in a NEMA type 12 moisture-tight compartment. Positive Blade Tension Control Full 30,000 lb. psi (13608 kg) tension on the blade is provided by a simple but effective blade tensioning mechanism. The handwheel moves a slide on which the idler band wheel is mounted. When a positive stop is contacted the blade is correctly tensioned. A Safety Switch in the mechanism automatically stops the machine in case of blade breakage. The idler band wheel is gimbal mounted to ensure proper alignment of the blade. Integral Coolant Pump A 114 H.P Machine Tool Type coo lant pump mounted on the machine base supplies coolant to the band blade. A reservoir in the machine base holds 12 gallons (45 L) of coolant. The pump also supplies coolant under pressure to the Flushing Hose which is included as standard equipment. A Sight Gauge indicates coolant level in the machine base.
