ELECTRONIC CONTROL DESCRIPTION The electronic hood control system consists of Capacitor the following parts: 1) Entry/Display Assembly 2) Control PCB 3) Triac 4) Fuse Holders 5) Motor Capacitor 6) Induction Fan Motors Transformer 7) Transformer Fuses, Triac, 8) Halogen Lamps Motor 9) Filter Microswitch Connections Frame with Control Panel Slides Out For Service CAUTION: Components on the electronic control are electrically HOT when voltage is connected to the hood. Control PCB Box 1) ENTRY/DISPLAY ASSEMBLY The replacement assembly has a PCB mounted in a plastic enclosure with (8) push buttons. It consists of the Fan Touch Control, Lamp Touch Control and the Display PCB. TO CHECK OPERATION OF CONTROL PCB: Check that all six connectors are locked Motor Capacitor Control PCB in place, no leads are broken and connector solder joints are not broken on PCB copper side. Right Blackbox 3) The triac controls the four hood lamps and is mounted in a blackbox in the left chimney area. Triac has an isolated case, which is mounted with two screws. IMPORTANT: Triac wire connection must be correct or lamp flickering could occur. Triac can be checked for electrical short by removing the black lead and measuring the resistance between the two 1/4" terminals (terminals with black and brown wires). Resistance should be greater than 1M ohm. Transformer Brown Triac Access to this assembly is by removing internal screws on the chassis sides and sliding the frame outward about 6 inches. The display assembly may then be removed by unplugging the ribbon cable, loosening the thumbscrews, and sliding the display box assembly out of the frame. Remove 2 Inside Screws Strain Relief Motor Connections Fuse Holders Black Orange Blower Arm Mounting Screws (2 Front, 2 Rear) Left Blackbox Unplug Ribbon Cable Ribbon Cable IMPORTANT: Before replacing the assembly, check the operation of the hood by plugging the new Entry/Display Assembly into the existing ribbon cable. If the unit does not work, replace the control board first and then recheck to determine if the existing Entry/Display Assembly is functioning properly. 2) CONTROL PCB This PCB has the AC to DC power supply, microprocessor and fan relays and is located in the right blackbox in the hood chimney area. TE: The five green connectors are locking type. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to unlock as follows: Insert screwdriver in the center of the space between the plug and connector receptacle on the PCB. Push down on the screwdriver and pull out the plug at the same time. 2 4) FUSE HOLDERS The fuse holders are an in-line type, which is in series with 12V AC from the transformer and is located in the left blackbox. An open fuse may be caused by a lamp failing or wrong wattage lamp. TE: The fuses are 5 x 20 mm and rated at (5) A, 125V AC. (WB27X10542). 5) CAPACITOR The capacitor is mounted on right chimney and plugs into the Control PCB connector CN3. Fan Motors Rear Filter Channel Change Lamps (4)
6) INDUCTION FAN ASSEMBLY Motors are four speed capacitor run induction types, each rated at 120V AC/1.8A. ASSEMBLY Remove rear filter channel (2 screws and tabs) Remove motor leads from connector in left blackbox and loosen strain relief Remove (4) screws from top of chassis Remove (1) retainer screw from underside of motor base (see illustration below) Lower motor down (recommend (2) person job) Motor stator winding resistances: Orange-Red = 17 ohms Blue-Black = 17 ohms Blue-White = 8.5 ohms Motor connections are located in the left blackbox. Blower Retainer Screw 7) TRANSFORMER The transformer provides 12V AC to the hood lamps and the Control PCB power supply. It is attached by screws from the top of the chassis. 8) HALOGEN LAMPS The four halogen lamps are the push-in type rated at 12V AC/20W. The equivalent GE lamp is a Q20MR16/C/CG40 - BAB (W808X10002). 9) MICROSWITCH (Located in front center filter channel) Microswitch is mounted in the filter area and senses when filters are removed which causes the red display light to blink continually. The red display light turns ON after 30 hours of fan operation to remind the user to clean the filters. Make sure the filter is seated properly when installed or filter light will blink. 10) IMPLEMENT HOLDER RODS To access Implement Holder Rods, remove Entry Display Assembly by following the instructions in Step 1. Screws (2) holding the implement holders can now be removed from the outside. Order replacement Part WB03X10148. 11) REINSTALL DUCT COVERS If 10 ft. to 14 ft. duct covers, reinstall screws and washers. Secure duct cover to the ceiling bracket. Differences in Accessing and Servicing 1. Dual Blower Package: A 660 CFM blower assembly replacement as an assembly only. Service Improvements: The rear hood chassis channel can be removed with (2) screws to facilitate easier blower removal. There is a motor retainer screw holding the motor to the chassis so that the motor will not fall when the (4) mounting bolts are removed from the top of the chassis. The motor connections to the control board are located in a terminal block in the left blackbox on top of the chassis. 2. Display Control Location and Alignment: Now located in a pull-out control panel enclosure. Service Improvements: Access to the display gained by removing (2) screws and then sliding the control enclosure out. Alignment collars are molded to the display control box cover to slide into the control panel holes which aids in positioning of display-to-control panel. 3. Motor Capacitor: Located on right side above the chassis. Service Improvements: Instead of soldered terminals, now has PUSH-ON terminals. 4. Fuse Holders: As a reliability improvement, instead of (1) 8 amp fuse, the ZV950 has (2) - 5 amp fuses one for each set of (2) lamps. 5. Low Voltage Transformer: Located on left side above chassis. Service Improvement: Easily removable by (2) screws attaching LVT to the left side control bracket. 6. Power Control: The control circuit and power board are identical to the ZV750 model. 7. Implement Holder Rods: To access Implement Holder Rods, remove Entry Display Assembly (see Step 1, page 2). Screws (2) holding the implement holders can now be removed from the outside. Order replacement Part WB03X10148. 8. Diagnostic Flow Chart: Identical to the ZV750 chart with the addition of 2 fuses instead of one. 9. Mini Manual: Accessed by exactly the same method as the ZV750. Lift and remove the lower decorative duct cover, mini manual located in an envelope on the left blackbox cover. 10. High Ceiling Kit: There is a decorative duct cover accessory kit ZX14SD available for ceiling heights greater than 10 ft. and up to 14 ft. An 8 foot ceiling duct cover is supplied with the ZV950 model, both are installed in the same manner. 1-7/8" Cover Recess Into Top of Hood 25-1/2" to 30" for 10 ft. to 13 ft. Ceilings 30" Min. for 14 ft. Ceilings 36" Min. 10" Hood Height 3
