INSTALLATION 5. Attach masking tape to the windshield to mark the location of each wiper. Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. MASKING TAPE WIPER BLADE NOTE: Always use Honda All-Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail. To avoid burning out the element, do not operate the engine block heater until it is installed in the vehicle and you have added coolant. 1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 2. Allow the engine and all cooling system components to cool down. 3. Place a clean drain pan under the radiator drain plug, then remove the drain plug from the bottom of the radiator to drain the coolant. Remove the radiator cap to increase the flow. MASKING TAPE 6. Open the hood, and remove the right wiper cover (three retaining tabs). RIGHT WIPER COVER WINDSHIELD NOTICE: Radiator coolant will damage the body paint. Quickly rinse any spilled coolant from body paint finish. RADIATOR CAP DRAIN PLUG 3 RETAINING 4. 7. Remove the left wiper cover (three retaining tabs). 3 RETAINING LEFT WIPER COVER 9. Remove the right windshield wiper arm (one cap and one nut). When reinstalling the windshield wiper, torque the nut to 30 N m (22 lbs ft). CAP NUT Torque: 30 N m (22 lbs ft) LEFT WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM 8. Close the hood. Remove the left windshield wiper arm (one cap and one nut). When reinstalling the windshield wiper, torque the nut to 30 N m (22 lbs ft). NUT Torque: 30 N m (22 lbs ft) CAP 10. 11. Remove the left cowl cover (two retaining tabs, clip, and three hooks).. 13. Remove the under-cowl panel (nine bolts). RIGHT COWL COVER 3 HOOKS 9 BOLTS UNDER-COWL PANEL 2 RETAINING 14. Remove the front bumper. Wrap a shop towel around the hood latch. On each side, attach tape around the headlight area as shown. 12. Remove the cover (one clip and tube). Remove the center cowl cover (four clips and tube). HOOD LATCH (Wrap with a shop towel.) TUBE (Remove.) COVER 4 S CENTER COWL COVER HEADLIGHT COVER TUBE (Remove.) Remove the 2 self-tapping screws, 10 short clips, and 2 long clips. Note the locations of the long clips. On each side, release five retaining tabs. 3 RETAINING 2 1 LONG 10 SHORT S LONG 2 SELF-TAPPING SCREWS On each side, release three retaining tabs. With the help of an assistant, remove the front bumper (two hex bolts, two clips, and unplug the vehicle connectors). 15. Using a tape measure and a felt-tip pen, measure and mark the heater harness at the three measurements shown. 160 mm (6.3 in.) 260 mm (10.2 in.) 17. Install the engine block heater with an aluminum washer into the bolt hole using a 24 mm socket and a torque wrench. Torque the engine block heater to 60 N m (44 lbs ft). ALUMINUM WASHER 500 mm (19.7 in.) 16. Locate and remove the drain bolt. Coolant remaining in the engine jackets flow out of the hole when the bolt is removed. Retain the bolt; it will be used if the block heater is removed. NOTE: Use a new washer, if the drain bolt is reinstalled. ENGINE BLOCK Torque: 60 N m (44 lbs ft) (Use a 24 mm socket) 18. Plug the connector end of the heater harness into the engine block heater. DRAIN BOLT (Retain.) 19. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle bracket with one white wire tie at the mark you made (Point A). 21. Remove the clip that secures the washer reservoir, and carefully move the resevoir out of the way. WASHER RESERVOIR BRACKET WHITE WIRE TIE (Point A) 22. Route the heater harness behind the washer reservoir, and down along the fenderwell. 20. Route the heater harness toward the passenger side of the vehicle. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness with one white wire tie at the mark you made (Point B). WHITE WIRE TIE (Point B) 2011 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. All Rights Reserved. 23. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness using four black wire ties. 25. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness using two black wire ties. 4 BLACK WIRE TIES BLACK WIRE TIE BLACK WIRE TIE WASHER RESERVOIR 24. Pull the inner fender away from the washer reservoir, then route the heater harness out away from the inner fender. 26. Route the heater harness across the front bulkhead, and secure it to the vehicle harness with one black wire tie. 27. Using a felt-tip pen and a tape measure, measure and mark the vehicle panel at the measurement shown. 29. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle panel holes with one black wire tie at the mark you made (Point C). 15 mm (0.6 in.) 28 mm (1.1 in.) PANEL BLACK WIRE TIE (Point C) PANEL 2 MARKS 10 mm (0.4 in.) WHITE MARKER 30. With the help of an assistant, route the heater harness through the grille in the area shown, then reinstall the front bumper. 28. Using a pushpin, pierce the two marks on the vehicle panel. While wearing eye protection, drill two pierced marks with a 3 mm drill bit, then enlarge the holes with a 5 mm drill bit. Remove any burrs. GRILLE 2011 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. 31. Route the heater harness inside the front bumper and secure it to the grille with one black wire tie. BLACK WIRE TIE 33. Reinstall all removed parts. 34. Reinstall the drain plug. 35. Remove the radiator cap, and fill the system with the recommended coolant. Follow the instructions described in the service manual to fill and bleed the cooling system. 36. Check the coolant reservoir for the correct level and check the cooling system for signs of leakage. Repair as necessary. 37. Check that the heater harness is routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 38. Reinstall the radiator cap. 39. Put the drain plug (removed in step 16) in the glove box. 40. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 41. Press and hold the radio power button for two seconds to restore the radio and navigation (if equipped) system functions. 42. Reset the clock if necessary. 32. Attach the protective cap to the front bumper, and plug the heater harness connector into the protective cap.
