ALL MAKES HEAVY-DUTY ADBLUE ALLIANCE ADBLUE : SPECIALLY BLENDED FOR YOUR SCR SYSTEM AdBlue is a urea-based chemical reactant designed specifically for use in SCR systems to reduce NOx emissions. The raw materials used to produce AdBlue include natural gas, coal or other petroleum products. AdBlue is prepared by dissolving solid high purity urea in deionized water to create a 32.5% solution in water. AdBlue and similar urea-based products are widely used today for a variety of agricultural and industrial needs. Alliance AdBlue meets ISO 22241 specifications for purity and composition, while being: Non-toxic and non-polluting Non-flammable Stable and colourless Non-hazardous Does not require special handling Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available from your Alliance Truck Parts Dealership. WARRANTY Alliance Truck Parts are backed by a 1-year/unlimited kilometre standard warranty. 2 Illustrations and photographs used in this catalogue may vary slightly from the actual product. 1 OVERVIEW EMISSIONS STANDARDS: THE RIGHT TECHNOLOGY MATTErs In support of EPA latest emissions standards, NOx and particulate matter (PM) will be reduced by 90% from 2004 standards to near zero emissions levels. To meet these standards and the needs of customers, engine manufacturers have been investing in new and innovative technologies. The leading technology being used to achieve the emissions goals is SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). This proven aftertreatment technology enables the engine to be fully optimised for performance and fuel economy. THE SCR AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM The SCR aftertreatment system basically consists of three elements: catalyst, AdBlue and AdBlue dosing system. A light mist of AdBlue is added, forming ammonia (NH3). AdBlue Dosing Valve SCR Catalyst Slip Catalyst Decomposition Reactor SCR Assembly Exhaust enters the decomposition reactor. The exhaust and ammonia pass into the SCR catalyst, where they react to form harmless nitrogen and water vapor. ADBLUE STORAGE Optimal storage temperatures for AdBlue are between -12 C and 32 C. In cold temperature regions, it is recommended to keep AdBlue IBCs in a storage unit. In warm temperature regions it is recommended to store AdBlue IBCs in a shaded area. Since AdBlue is corrosive to certain sensitive metals, such as aluminium, all AdBlue equipment is made of an appropriate, heavy-duty and tamper-free form of durable composite material. 4
VEHICLE OPERATION Each SCR equipped vehicle carries AdBlue in a storage tank. Depending on the OEM application, AdBlue tank size ranges in capacity. The storage tank is designed in terms of a 2:1 ratio: a minimum of 2 diesel fill-ups corresponds to 1 AdBlue fill-up. Cold temperatures are of no concern to drivers. During vehicle operation, the SCR system is designed to provide heating for the AdBlue tank and supply lines. If AdBlue freezes when the vehicle is shut down, start up and normal operation of the vehicle will not be inhibited. The SCR heating system is designed to quickly return the AdBlue to liquid form and the operation of the vehicle will not be impacted. 1 OVERVIEW CALCULATING ADBLUE USAGE AdBlue use is directly related to fuel consumption. AdBlue consumption is expected to be approximately 2% of the diesel fuel consumed, dependent on application and vehicle operation duty cycle, geography, ratings, etc. Another way to consider it is that AdBlue will be consumed on a 50 to 1 ratio with diesel (for every 50 parts of diesel fuel burned, you will use 1 part of AdBlue ). A truck averaging 39L/100km can expect to go approximately 500km on around 5 litres of AdBlue. 5

3 ADBLUE FAST FACTS Q. What is AdBlue? A. AdBlue is the reactant necessary for the functionality of the SCR system. It is a carefully blended aqueous urea solution of 32.5% high synthetic urea and 67.5% deionized water. Q. What is urea? A. Urea is a compound of nitrogen that turns to ammonia when heated. It is used in a variety of industries, including as a fertilizer in agriculture. Q. Is AdBlue a toxic solution? A. AdBlue is a non-toxic, non-polluting and non-flammable solution. It is stable, colourless, odourless, and meets accepted international standards for purity and composition. MSDS sheets are available. Q. What is the freeze point of AdBlue? A. A 32.5% solution of AdBlue will begin to crystallize and freeze at -11 C. At 32.5%, both the urea and water will freeze at the same rate, ensuring that the fluid does not become diluted or over concentrated. 3 FAST FACTS Q. Are there special storage requirements for AdBlue? A. ISO 22241-3 specification details the storage, handling, and shelf life minimum expectations throughout the distribution chain. Storage between 30 C and 4 C is recommended. Q. Is AdBlue corrosive? A. AdBlue is corrosive to aluminium and other materials. Tank, packaging and dispensing equipment suppliers take all this into account and only use approved materials for their products. Q. What does IBC stand for? A. Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) are all containers larger than a 205L drum, and smaller than a tanker. They hold approximately 1000L. Q. What is the shelf life of AdBlue? A. Shelf life of AdBlue is a function of ambient storage temperature. Expectations for shelf life as defined by ISO Spec 22241-3, are the minimum expectations for shelf life, when stored at constant temperatures. AdBlue will degrade in time depending on temperature and exposure to sun light. Stated shelf life is based on continuous exposure to heat and sunlight and continuous exposure is unlikely. If stored between -12 C and 32 C, shelf life will easily be one year. If the maximum temperature does not exceed approximately 23 C for an extended period of time, the shelf life will be two years. Q. How do I buy it? A. Order AdBlue through an Alliance Truck Parts Dealership. 7
