A New Generation of Moulded Case Circuit Breakers Eaton s Cutler-Hammer offer a complete range of Moulded Case Circuit Breakers - MCCBs - 15-630 A in three frame sizes. Each frame size offers a choice of several breaking capacities up to 100 ka at 400 VAC. The MCCB:s are designed to conform with all major international standards including IEC 60947-2 and UL 489/CSA C22.2 No 5.1. The performance is third party certifi ed by KEMA, UL and CSA. KEMA, UL and CSA are independent third party test houses which assure that Eaton s Cutler-Hammer MCCB:s meet their exacting standards through regularly scheduled follow-up testing and inspection. Innovative design and an optimum of performance The fl exibility and outstanding performance characteristics of Eaton s Cutler-Hammer MCCBs are made possible by the most logically designed contact assemblies. Based on the patented contact design, the contact assembly creates a high speed blow-open action when it confronts the electromechanical forces produced by a high-level fault current. Cascading and discrimination The current limiting capacity reduces the rated breaking capacity required for the other circuit breakers installed downstream. With Eaton s Cutler-Hammer MCCBs, a high level of discrimination in a distribution system is achieved. When a fault occurs, only the MCCB located immediately upstream is tripped. Protect IEC/NEC, the new discrimination software, includes the complete range of protective devices from Eaton s Cutler-Hammer. Protect IEC/NEC is easy to use and drastically reduces the time spent on discrimination studies. Same MCCBs for IEC and North American applications Eaton s Cutler-Hammer Series G MCCBs are for truly global use with UL/CSA/KEMA-KEUR approvals as standard. Series G MCCBs are UL 489 listed and meet the requirements in National Electrical Code (NEC) for Branch Circuit Protection, Motor Branch Circuit Protection and as Disconnecting Means. Operating mechanism meets the requirements for mechanical interlocking according to NFPA 79. Unmatched protection and flexibility All Eaton s Cutler-Hammer MCCBs are current limiting. High speed opening and the electromagnetic repulsion forces in combination with the incorporation of sophisticated arc extinguishing technique limit energy developed by the short-circuit current to very low values. A wide selection of trip units for different applications are available, thermal-magnetic and Digitrip electronic types, with or without earth fault protection. Digitrip trip units detect earth fault currents through residual sensing, they are not designed for zero sequence. Earth leakage modules, based on zero sequence sensing, with a built-in current sensor are also available. This technique allows for protective sensitivities down to 30 ma levels. MCCBs with electronic trip units should not be used. For switching DC currents, however the maximum permissible voltage per conducting path has to be considered. For voltages higher than 250 VDC, the series connection of two or three conducting paths are required, see proposed circuits for 3 and 4 pole MCCBs below. As the current has to fl ow through all conducting paths so as to maintain the thermal tripping characteristics, the following circuit arrangements are recommended. With DC, the trip values of the instantaneous short circuit release is increased by 30-40%. The earthed pole must always be assigned to the individual conducting path, so that two paths are always in series in case of an earth fault. Three conducting paths in series. Internal Accessories Series G MCCBs can be equipped with a number of internal accessories, auxiliary switches, alarm switches, shunt trip and undervoltage release. Auxiliary switches Available with one or two changeover contacts. They indicate if the MCCB is in closed or open position. Alarm switches Available with one or two changeover contacts. They indicate if the MCCB is in tripped position. MCCB Toggle position Off/Reset On Tripped Auxiliary switch position Contact position by the auxiliary and alarm switches as a function of the switching position of the MCCB Combination switches Consist of one changeover alarm switch and one changeover auxiliary contact. Shunt trip Shunt trip is used for remote tripping of the MCCB. The shunt trip coil is only rated for short time operation and should not be used in control circuits with a continuous command. The shunt trip has built-in cut-off switch to prevent coil burnout. Undervoltage release The MCCB can not be closed until the undervoltage release is energized. If the undervoltage release is not energized, the MCCB can only perform an idle switching operation.
