SINGLE SPINDLE CHUCKING MACHINE This is an entirely NEW chucking autmatic-air perated. It is designed especially fr heavy duty, high prductin n castings, frgings and tubing parts that require such primary peratins as internal straight r taper bring, frm bring, frm turning, drilling, external turning, frming, facing, chamfering, etc.

CHUCK-MATIC-FOR NEW PERFORMANC The high degree f precisin which CHUCK-MATIC maintains under heavy feeds begins with the simplicity and sturdiness f its "fundatin" which cnsists f nly tw main castings- the pan and the heavy ne-piece frame frming a rigid and cmpact unit. The tw main slides are the massive angular type, munted directly in the frame withut verhang, s that the tl thrusts are received int the frame. Cam drums fr the tw main slides are munted n splined shafts driven thrugh bevel gears by the heavy main cam shaft. These slides are lcated directly ver their cam drums 4

RECORDS IN SINGLE SPINDLE CHUCKIN-G insuring a shrt pwerful and direct cam actin, thus aviding the inaccuracies that result frm excessive linkage. Slides are prvided with gibs adjustable fr wear. Cams are changed by pulling ut drums n a pilt. Antifrictin bearings are used thrughut. These are the time -prved design advantages that characterize the rigidity, endurance and freedm frm vibratin and tl chatter which are features f Acme-Gridley Multiple Spindle bar and chucking autmatics. The right-hand slide is a cmpund slide carrying hlders and tls fr such peratins as 5

straight r taper bring, frm-bring, frm-turning, drilling. The actin f the lwer member, r main slide, is crsswise tward the spindle; that f the upper slide is inward tward face f the air chuck. The left-hand slide, fr frming, facing, chamfering, etc., is perated by cam drum in the same manner as the lwer right slide. Psitive stps assist in h1ding fine limits n diameters and lengths. High speed idle time mvements f cam shaft are cntrlled by individual cnstant speed mtr munted n rear f machine. 6

The telescping type chip guard lcated belw the chuck prevents fine chips and dirt frm entering the slide ways t cause excessive wear. Shrt chips chilled by flw f clant are quickly cleared frm the tls and hlders ver the steep angle guards int the pan. A mtr driven chip cnveyr t remve chips frm rear f pan is ptinal equipment. High and lw speed cams are lcated n a disc at the rear f the machine- quickly accessible fr jb changes. Spindle change gears are hused in bx bearing CHUCK-MATIC name; feed change gears are als at cnvenient height at rear f frming slide. These gears prvide fr nrmal range f feeds and speeds which can be further increased r decreased by chang- 7 l

ing mtr pinin and gear, thus insuring the crrect speeds fr either high speed r carbide tipped tls. Lubricating il is pumped frm reservir lcated inside the pan- cnstant splash feed t gears, clutches, bearings and all revlving parts; frce-feed autmatic "ne sht" t tl slides at each wrking cycle. This system includes Purlatr, cnveniently lcated.

Cutting clant, circulated ver large area f pan, is supplied t cutting pints f tls at lw temperature thrugh independent mtr driven pump. The wrk chuck is air perated. A 12" diameter air cylinder in cnnectin with a reducing valve and sight gage prvides ample range f chucking pressures-suited t the wrk. A safety air pressure switch stps the machine if fr any reasn air pressure falls belw safe perating margins. Operating Cnvenience Operatr stands directly in frnt f machine. Since the center f the spindle is less than 41" frm flr, wrk is never lifted abve elbw level. There is plenty f chucking clearance when slides are withdrawn, n lifting f wrk ver slides and tls, but directly int chuck which is nly 14" frm edge f main splash guard. The Operating Cycle-Simple, Safe, Fully Autmatic Main switch push-buttn fr start, stp and jg-run fr setting up. (1) Open chuck jaws by pressing ft pedal, insert wrk-piece, and clse jaws n wrk by releasing pedal. Ft pedal can be perated nly when tls have cleared frm wrk, slides fully returned and spindle stpped. (2) Push and hld safety lcking spring plunger at left f main push-buttn with left hand and pull spindle starting lever "S" with right hand. This prtective device frces peratr t have bth hands clear f the tling zne befre wrk cycle can be started. (3) At end f cut, slides recede, spindle stps and clant flw autmatically cuts ff. ( 4) Press ft pedal t release wrk. Pushing "F" lever stps feed at any pint. Pushing slide reversing lever "R" causes quick withdrawal f slides. Operatr need nt leave psitin in frnt f machinefr hand cranking while setting up r fr ther cause. Snap-Lck Limit switches and ther autmatic devices fully prtect machine and peratr against injury. Operatin is s simple and flprf that unskilled labr can run Chuck Matics at high prductin levels with safety and minimum fatigue. 9
