ACERT Technology The development of ACERT Technology began with the search for a better way to reduce diesel engine emissions, and culminated in a revolutionary engine design breakthrough that burns fuel more precisely than ever before. Lower combustion temperatures reduce emissions and prolong the life of lighter, more power-dense engine platforms. It also varies the injection timing based on factors like engine load and speed for optimum performance under a wide range of operating conditions. ADEM A4 Electronic Control Unit (ECU) ACERT Technology is built on a refined combination of technologies that have already seen millions of hours on the job. The most important is the A4 ECU. It directs the fuel injectors to deliver fuel with incredible precision, enables customized engine speeds and idle levels for specific applications, and delivers advanced diagnostic capabilities for service and troubleshooting. Advanced Simplicity Cat engines with ACERT Technology truly are revolutionary, but they remain surprisingly familiar. There are no complex, new add-on systems. In fact, they retain most of the core iron and service routines from their predecessors. New components include crossflow cylinder heads for improved airflow efficiency, stronger all-steel pistons, and new leakfree connectors. Turbocharged engine platforms use wastegate turbochargers for quick response and long-term reliability. The engines meet applicable emission standards through U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final, EU Stage IV. Aftertreatment Through partnering with Caterpillar customers to understand their business and equipment requirements, we recognized that one technology solution does not fit all applications. This fundamental realization led to the design and incorporation of a comprehensive technology portfolio offering multiple combinations of electronics, fuel system, air system, and aftertreatment components based on engine size, application, and geographic location. 7
