TECHNICAL BULLETIN 505-18-04 16 January 2018 MODEL AFFECTED: 505 SUBJECT: TRANSMISSION FAIRING INSTALLATION, IMPROVEMENT OF HELICOPTERS AFFECTED: Serial numbers 65011 through 65056. [Serial number 65057 and subsequent will have the intent of this bulletin accomplished prior to delivery.] COMPLIANCE: At customer s option. DESCRIPTION: Bell Helicopter is aware of difficulties encountered during the installation of the left hand SLS-030-402-001 and right hand SLS-030-403-001 transmission fairings on the helicopter. This bulletin provides instructions to install ejector blades on each transmission fairing and enlarge (8) holes on the forward main rotor drive compartment fairing for optimal fastener alignment. The left hand SLS-030-402-001 and right hand SLS-030-403-001 transmission fairings will be re-identified as SLS-030-402-005FM and SLS-030-403-005FM respectively. The Applicability of this bulletin to any spare part shall be determined prior to its installation on an affected helicopter. APPROVAL: The engineering design aspects of this bulletin are Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) approved. BHT-ALL-SRM, Structural Repair Manual PUBLICATIONS AFFECTED: BHT-505-IPC, Illustrated Parts Catalog, Chapter 53 ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Prepare the helicopter for maintenance. 2. Remove left hand (432AL) and right hand (432BR) transmission fairings (DMC-505- A-06-40-00-00A-030A-A, BHT-505-MM, Maintenance Manual, Chapter 6). a. Locate three ejector blades (1) on left hand transmission fairing (2) in most forward inboard edge holes (Figure 1). Use a #40 drill and drill two holes in the fairing to match each of the ejector blade attachment holes (BHT-ALL-SRM). Install three ejector blades (1) to fairing with two rivets (3) each. b. On each of the three ejector blades, install fastener (4) through ejector blade, slide on washer (5), and lock in place with grommet (6). c. Using permanent ink marker, re-identify left hand transmission fairing as SLS- 030-402-005FM (or SLS-030-403-005FM for right hand transmission fairing as applicable). d. Repeat steps 2.a through 2.c for the right hand transmission cowling. 3. Access the forward main rotor drive compartment (431) (DMC-505-A-06-30-00-00A- 030A-A). On aft edge, locate the eight holes that mate with the L/H and R/H transmission fairings (Note 1, Figure 1). If found not enlarged, using a hole saw modifier, increase each of the eight hole diameters to 0.458 to 0.478 inch (11.633 to 12.141 mm) (BHT-ALL-SRM). 4. Touch-up the surrounding primed and/or painted areas as required (BHT-ALL-SPM). 5. Make an entry in the helicopter logbook and historical service records indicating compliance with this Technical Bulletin. Page 3 of 5
