BSP fittings may be use, but care must be taken to avoi blocking off the lubricant cross-rilling as these fittings generally screw in further than NPT fittings. It also offers better protection against corrosion to the rolling surfaces. s of NLGI No.2 esignation are recommene for most applications. For centrally pumpe systems a No.1 grease may be use for increase pumpability. s with extreme pressure (EP) aitives are recommene. For spees 7,900mm n (in), greases with synthetic base oils are recommene. with a lithium complex thickener is usually use for normal applications operating at temperatures between 32 F an 176 F. When water resistance is require a grease with aluminum complex thickener can be use. Aluminum complex greases are not compatible with some other types of grease. The bearing must therefore be solvent cleane of other greases before aing an aluminum complex base grease. For extreme temperatures, spees an loas always obtain a lubricant recommenation from our technical epartment. Selection of Base Oil Viscosity (ISO-VG) selecte for bearing lubrication must have a base oil of sufficiently high viscosity to aequately separate the rolling elements an race parts uner operating conitions, in orer for the bearing to provie a long service life. The same comment applies for the viscosity of the oil if oil lubrication is use. The charts on page 3 recommene operating ranges for three common oil viscosities, for bearings uner normal loaing (for raial loas Cr/10). In orer to use these charts, the geometry for the bearing in question must be foun from the tables opposite an on page 2, an this geometry multiplie by the bearing spee (in thousans of rpm) in orer to obtain the velocity. For example, if an 01E B 207 bearing is to be run at 1800rpm: The geometry is 48.2 from the table. Velocity = 48.2 x 1800/1000 = 86.76 To etermine the suitability of one of these oils, raw a vertical line from the horizontal axis at the calculate velocity, an raw a horizontal line from vertical axis at the operating temperature. If the lines intersect in the shae area the viscosity of the oil is suitable. If the lines intersect above the shae area a higher viscosity oil is require. If the lines intersect below the shae area the bearing may operate satisily, but it is suggeste that a lower viscosity oil is use. The use of these charts is subject to the operating conitions being within the recommene ranges for the lubricant as specifie by the lubricant manufacturer. For conitions not ce by these charts, please contact our technical epartment. Note that the lubricant film thickness is not particularly sensitive to loa, so for heavier loaing the lubricant selection as provie by these charts is usually sufficient provie that the lines rawn on the chart as explaine above o not intersect at the upper ege of the shae area. It is recommene that our technical epartment is contacte with etails of the application if extremes of loa, spee or temperature are expecte. quantity for initial lubrication The quantity of grease require on initial lubrication is epenent upon operating spee an temperature. If the operating temperature is below 176 F the quantity of grease may be etermine irectly accoring to the bearing reference an operating spee from the table below. If the operating temperature is above 176 F a 25% pack of grease shoul be use regarless of operating spee (refer to the right han column of the table). With a full pack of grease the space within the housing (i.e. surrouning the bearing components) in the assemble unit is completely fille with grease. The table assumes normal ensity grease (about 0.49 oz/in 3 ). Routine greasing General (all Series) Routine greasing frequency epens on temperature, spee an environment. quantities epen on bearing size. Excessive quantities of lubricant shoul not be use. Particularly at high spees, this may result in excessive churning an heating. Automatic lubrication systems shoul be metere to eliver grease at an average rate equivalent to the routine greasing perios an quantities specifie. If it can be one safely, routine greasing shoul occur while the shaft is rotating to help istribute the grease. Do not mix ifferent types of grease in the bearing. Stanar cylinrical bearings The table below specifies routine greasing intervals. The shortest greasing interval shoul be selecte to which one or more of the conitions in the table apply. If operating conitions fall outsie those liste please contact our technical epartment for a recommene lubrication interval. The following table specifies the require quantity of grease at each routine greasing. Note that 1/16oz is approximately one shot from a conventional sie-lever grease gun. Smaller quantities may be elivere using a push-type gun.
