The President s Corner by Gayle Yarnell, President - LMAC Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As we leave 2015 and head into 2016, I am looking forward to another great flying season with friends and fellow modelers. We got started on Jan.1 st with the Numb Thumb event with a good turn out and a lot of flying. Cold temperatures was provided by Mother Nature but no one seemed to mind and although I didn t get to stay for the Chili lunch I am sure it was good, Mickey makes a mean pot of chili and I bet everyone enjoyed it. Our December Club meeting was very productive; we elected 2016 Officers and discussed other Club issues. Our January meeting will be held on the 14 th. At the Morning Pointe Senior Care Center located on Shoreside Dr. Meeting will start at 7pm everyone is invited to attend. One of the items on the agenda will be the 2016 budget as well as other Club business. Also, for your enjoyment David Price will be presenting a program on scratch building, David is one of our best builders and this program is one you don t want to miss. Congratulations to Paul Bail for winning Coyote Hobbies Plane of the Month Contest with his Stinger 90 Ducted Fan Jet, good job Paul. Looking forward to the meeting Thursday evening, hope to see all of you there. Don t forget to bring that new plane for the Coyote Hobbies Plane of the Month Contest. Until then stay safe. Gayle Yarnell President - Lexington Model Airplane Club 859-707-1697 yarnellg@roadrunner.com 1

The meeting was brought to order at 7:10 by Gayle Yarnell. The motion to approve the minutes of the November meeting was made by Gayle Yarnell, 2nd by Curtis Adams and approved by vote. The Treasurers Report was given by Bob Stewart. The motion was made by Dave Price to approve the Treasurers Report. The motion was 2nd by Curtis Adams and approved by vote. The Safety Report was given by Dave Price. A lost airplane was retrieved by the landfill. New Business The privacy Statement which was in the newsletter was presented by Bob Cooper. The motion to attach the Privacy Statement to the Bylaws was made by Gayle Yarnell. The motion was 2nd by Dan Thompson and approved by vote. Curtis Adams proposed giving a LMAC membership as well as an AMA membership to the Kids Cancer Alliance as a donation for an auction they are having. The motion to donate the memberships was made by Curtis Adams, 2nd by Jesse Harris, and passed by vote. Curtis Adams suggested having a few meetings on Saturday mornings in order to see if meeting attendance would increase. LMAC received a letter from Easter Seals Cardinal Hill thanking us for our donation. The motion was made by Gayle Yarnell to adjourn, 2nd by Bob Stewart, and approved by vote. The next meeting will be at 7:00PM on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Morning Pointe Senior Center, 150 Shoreside Dr., Lexington, KY. 2

Club Membership Renewal Time As of January 1, it is time to renew your club membership. Go to the Club website ( www.lmacky.org ) and print out the membership form. Mail it with a check to the Treasurer s address noted on the form. As you know, it is your option to get an airfield gate key for a one-time key deposit of $5. If you have a 2015 key, then exchange it at no cost for a 2016 gate key. The gate is always open when a member is at the airfield. Last person leaving the airfield locks the gate closed. The airfield gate now has three locks, a 2015 lock, a 2016 lock and a KY Utilities lock. These locks are linked together on the chain securing the gate. The 2015 lock will remain on the gate until March 31, 2016 at which time it will be removed and you will need to have a 2016 key to open the gate. If you don t need a key, then your key deposit will be refunded with your key return. All 2015 keys must be returned to Treasurer. Don t loose your key. January Club Meeting Program by David Price My presentation will be on scratch building, from start to completion. It will include: plans, selecting materials, hints, and a build log of the Cutlass 20 - originally from Pilot kits. Plans for building this model and many others are available free at Outerzone website. (http://www.outerzone.co.uk/i ndex.asp ) 3

FAA Registration Update Source: Academy of Model Aeronautics' Government Relations Update as of Jan 11, 2016 AMA now says that a long-term solution is unlikely before the February 19 registration deadline. For this reason, AMA is suggesting that AMA members may wish to take advantage of free registration period, which is available until January 19. FAA Registration Website...www.faa.gov/uas/registration/ Summary of FAA Registration Requirements Pilots flying outdoor aircraft using a ground control system, such as a transmitter, are required to participate. This includes fixed-wing aircraft, not just multi-rotors or drones. Any pilot flying outdoor models weighing between.55 pounds (i.e.,250 grams) and 55 lbs is required to register. You will not be required to register every aircraft, individually. You only need to register yourself and affix your registration number to all your aircraft. The registration number can be inside the aircraft, such as a battery hatch - but should not require tools to access. Pilots are required to have a hard copy or electronic copy of the federal registration certificate on them while flying. You only need to register once every 3 years. There is a $5.00 credit card registration fee. The credit card transaction will be used to verify your identity. There is a $5 fee to register, which is waived if you register by January 19, 2016. Deadline for registration for everyone is February 19. 4

Congratulations to Paul Bail! He won the Model of the Month with his new Stinger 90 Electric Ducted Fan Sport Jet manufactured by Feewing. This 100 mph model is molded of EPO foam and comes complete with retractable landing gear, servos, ESC, and 12 blade ducted fan, all assembled, ready to fly after installing a receiver and 6 cell 5,000mah 50C battery. 5

Blast from the Past by David Price This series of articles will present advertisements from vintage modeling magazines. The intent is to illustrate technological advances that have taken place in our hobby. For some, it will bring back memories, for newcomers it will present a piece of history of radio control model aviation. Here are two advertisements for the H&H 45 Model Motor found in the January and October 1948 issues of Model Airplane News. By October the price had dropped to $18.00. Based on inflation, this engine would cost $177.26 today. The manufacturer claimed to be the first glow plug engine. 6

For Sale Model Airplane Trailer by Paul Bail For Sale - Model Airplane Trailer: Almost new 2015 BTM 5' wide x 10' long x 6' tall V-front trailer. Bought new on 7/27/2015 at Trailer World in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Trailer now has approximately 275 miles on it. Trailer has a side door for easy access to the front. The rear ramp door has a pulley device that allows the ramp to be slowly lowered. The 6 foot tall interior allows for standing up inside. LED lights on the exterior of the trailer provide excellent night time visibility. Chrome plating protects the lower front of the trailer. Trailer comes with 4 wheel chocks, full size spare tire and tongue lock with 2 keys Reason for selling: Trailer was originally purchased with the intent of placing large planes in it. But now have decided to fly slightly smaller planes which fit into the back of a Nissan Frontier pickup truck which eliminates the need for a trailer. Also do not have space to park the trailer on my property. Price: $2500 firm but cash talks Payment: Cashier's check from a local Kentucky bank or cash Paul Bail, Member, Lexington Model Airplane Club Home: 859-221-8851 Cell: 682-300-9837 More photos here. http:///for-sale.html 7
