5 INTRODUCTION Tire under-infltion is well-known prolem in the trucking industry. Reserch from the Federl Motor Crrier Sfety Administrtion (FMCSA) shows tht fewer thn 55% of ll truck tires re within 5 PSI of their trget tire pressure. This mens illions of dollrs re lost ech yer due to incresed fuel consumption, tred wer, tire lowouts nd other opertionl issues. According to field test conducted y the U.S. Deprtment of Trnsporttion, optiml tire infltion cn sve fleet over $2,200 nnully per trctor-triler while sving time nd improving sfety. The Hlo Tire infltor Aperi Technologies is proud to offer the Hlo Tire Infltor s the leding retrofit, uto-infltion solution for oth trctors nd trilers. 7 INSTALLATION OVERVIEW IMPORTANT IT IS CRITICAL TO FOLLOW THE FULL SET OF INSTRUCTIONS STARTING ON PAGE 8. 1. VERIFY PRESSURE PSI 1. ORIENT HALO (LEFT/RIGHT) ROTATION 2. 8 HALO INSTALLATION 1. verify pressure nd orient hlo Check the lels on the Hlo to confirm tht the Hlo pressure setpoint mtches the recommended pressure of the tire, s defined y the fleet s tire mintennce progrm. PSI Instlling Hlo tht does not mtch the specified pressure could cuse over-inflted or underinflted tires, which could result in low-out. If the pressure setting is not visile on ny of the lels, do not instll nd contct Customer Support. Right Hlo Tire Infltor The Hlo is designed nd engineered to inflte tire while vehicle is moving forwrd. This forwrd rottionl direction is indicted y the rrows on the Hlo cover. The side on which the Hlo Mounting Plte is instlled defines whether the Hlo is configured for the left or right side of vehicle. Plce ech Hlo next to its ssigned wheel-end nd ensure: the Hlo Mounting Plte fces inwrd towrd the wheel-end. the rottionl rrows point in the forwrd rolling direction of the tire. ROTATION CAUTION A Hlo with rottionl rrows pointing in the ckwrd rolling direction will not inflte the tire nd my dmge the Hlo. instll

9 2. TEST-FIT BRACKET FOR OPTIMAL HOSE FIT Test-fit the hoses to select the optiml rcket plcement nd prevent excessive ruing or kinking of the hose(s). Due to different wheel-end configurtions nd vlve stem lignments, there is no stndrd hose kit for given wheel end spec or stndrd lignment of the Hlo nd hose(s). Complete the steps on the next pge on every wheel-end to ensure successful instlltion. HOSE KIT OPTIONS Perform this test fit for oth dul nd wide-se Hlos. 10 OUTER DUAL HOSE/WIDEBASE HOSE TEST FIT Strting with the shortest outer dul hose length or wide-se hose provided, temporrily ttch the hose onto the Hlo. OR OUTER DUAL HOSE WIDE-BASE HOSE Trctor Finger-tighten the rcket to the Hlo Adptor Plte using single screw nd wsher. or Triler Finger-tighten one prt of the rcket to the Hlo Adptor Plte using single screw nd wsher. Rotte the Hlo in oth directions to select the rcket position on the hu where the outer hose does not ru, kink, or stretch. REMOVE HUB NUTS WHEN TESTING FIT If using wide-se hoses, move on to section 3 of the Hlo instlltion, otherwise continue for instructions for the inner dul hose instll. instll

11 INNER DUAL HOSE TEST FIT Strting with the shortest inner dul hose length provided, temporrily ttch the hose onto the Hlo. Trctor or INNER DUAL HOSE Triler Using the sme rcket position tht ws selected for the outer dul hose, choose the est inner dul hose length from the provided options CAUTION The proper lignment of the Hlo, rcket, nd hose(s) is criticl to ensure the proper functioning of the Hlo nd to prevent leks t the hose connections. VISUAL CHECK Ensure tht your hose(s) re not kinked or ruing on the wheel. instll

12 3. INSTALL BRACKET Trctor or Triler Remove the two hu nuts nd wshers identified in the previous step. Slide the rcket over the studs nd tighten the lug nuts using the impct driver (or reker r) nd impct drive socket. Any wshers should e instlled on top of the rcket. Torque: Mnufcturer recommended Remove the three screws nd wshers identified in the previous step. Slide the rcket over the holes nd tighten the screws using the impct driver (or reker r) nd impct drive socket. Replce the originl hucp screws with Aperi-issued screws nd wshers. Torque: Mnufcturer recommended CAUTION Only remove screws for one hlf of the hu flnge t time. Removing ll screws my cuse the hu cp to fll off. Do not use the current hucp screws s they my not e long enough. Use the Aperi issued screws nd ensure tht t lest six turns of thred will engge. Ensure t lest one full hu stud thred is visile fter the rcket is instlled. Insufficient thred enggement could cuse the rcket nd Hlo to come loose. Ensure tht the rcket is not in contct with the rised center of the hu. Contct with the rised center could cuse the rcket to end. Repet for the other hlf of the rcket. instll

13 4. ttch hlo Trctor or Triler Using ONLY the Aperi-issued screws nd wshers provided with the rcket kit, ttch the Hlo Mounting Plte to the rcket. Torque: 20 ft-l (27 N m) Tightening to higher or lower torque could cuse the Hlo to detch while the vehicle is moving. Non-Aperi issued screws nd wshers my not hve the proper corrosion protection nd could cuse the Hlo to loosen nd detch from the rcket. instll

14 5. ttch hose(s) to tire vlve stem Dul hose kit or Wide-Bse Hose Kit Inner Dul Hose Outer Dul Hose Stright Hose Conversion Cp Before instlling the hoses, check oth hose-ends for deris or dmged sels. A dmged or contminted hose-end could cuse leks. Do not use vlve stem extenders s these gretly increse the risk of leks. Using only the hoses selected in step 2: Using the hose selected in step 2: Attch the inner dul hose to inner tire s vlve stem. Attch the hose to the tire s vlve stem. Attch the outer hose to the outer tire s vlve stem. Attch the conversion cp to hose connector. SOUND CHECK NOTICE Listen for rief relese of ir while turning. After the relese of ir stops, continue to tighten the hose y hnd until it is fully tightened. It is recommended to tighten the hose 1/4 turn pst hnd-tight. VISUAL CHECK A properly ligned vlve nd swivel should turn esily. Difficulty turning could e n indiction of corroded or contminted vlve stem, or cross-threding. Use only the swivel for tightening. Twisting of the hose to tighten the connection could dmge the sel nd cuse leks, which could result in defltion. instll

15 6. ttch hose(s) to hlo in the picture shows how to ensure tht the T-stem is fcing outwrd from the Hlo. Use the 5/8 fixed wrench to hold the hose connector ( in the picture) on the Hlo to prevent it from rotting during tightening. Use chnnellock pliers to tighten the hose swivel ( c in the picture) onto the Hlo. c CAUTION VISUAL CHECK The mximum recommended torque setting is 8 ft-l. Exceeding this will dmge the threds on the Hlo. While turning the swivel on the Hlo connection end, ensure tht the hose(s) does not rotte with the swivel. This could cuse the vlve connection to loosen. Do not use the Aperi service port on the Hlo to tighten hose(s). CAUTION Improper ttchment... Shows n exmple of hose tht isn t fully connected. Hose connector threds re visile... Shows how to test tht the hose does not hve ply in it when fully instlled. } instll

16 7. Finl check Check the rottion rrows on the Hlo to ensure they re fcing in the right direction. Verify tht ll olts, nuts, screws nd wshers re fully ttched nd mtch the vlues in the Torque Specifiction Tle. Spry the sopy wter mixture over ech connection point of the hoses nd look for new ule genertion tht could indicte lek (see elow): While sprying, lightly pull on the hoses to simulte forces felt while driving to ensure ir is not escping from the tire vlve stem or hose crimps. Your Hlo instlltion is now complete. Plese review the Mintennce section for informtion on how to properly mintin the Hlo system. instll

17 Hlo Uninstlltion CAUTION When removing the Hlo nd its ssocited hose nd rcket kits, keep ll items together. These kits re engineered nd uilt to ensure the successful instlltion nd opertion of the Hlo nd should not e replced with ny non-aperi items. STEP 1: detch hoses(s) Use the 5/8 fixed wrench to hold the hose connector ( in picture) on the Hlo to prevent it from rotting during loosening. Use chnnellock pliers to turn the swivel ( in picture) nd remove the hose(s) from the Hlo. Remove hose(s) from tire vlve stem. When removing the hose(s) from the Hlo, ensure tht the hose connector ( does not rotte. This could cuse severe dmge to the hlo. in picture) Do not use the Aperi service port on the Hlo to tighten hose(s). STEP 2: detch hlo Trctor Using the 1/2 deep socket, unscrew the Hlo Mounting Plte from the Hlo rcket. Keep ll hrdwre for re-instlltion. or Triler Using the 1/2 deep socket, unscrew the Hlo Mounting Plte from the Hlo rcket. Keep ll hrdwre for re-instlltion. TIRE UNINSTALL PRESSURE

18 STEP 3: uninstll rcket Trctor Remove the rcket from the hu. or Triler Remove the first hlf of the rcket from the hu. Rettch the lug nuts nd wshers to the hu. Torque: Mnufcturer recommended CAUTION Only remove screws for one hlf of the hu flnge t time. Removing ll screws my cuse the hu cp to fll off. Rettch the originl screws (if ville) to the hucp. Torque: Mnufcturer recommended Repet for the second hlf of the rcket. Ensure tht the screws engge fully. Generl Inspection PRE-TRIP AT PM AT EACH TIRE SERVICE OR UP TO 120,000 MILES Some highly unlikely events (e.g. hrd, solid ojects flying up from the rod) could cuse dmge to the Hlo Tire Infltion system. i. Ensure tht no severe dmge to the system is visile. This includes crcked, ent, melted, corroded, or shttered system components. If there is dmged system component, the equipment on tht wheel-end should e removed y following the steps in the Hlo Uninstlltion section. ii. X MAINTENANCE INTERVAL Ensure tht ll screws, wshers, olts, nd nuts re present. Replce the missing hrdwre with Aperi-issued hrdwre nd tighten ccording to the Torque Specifiction Tle. X X X X X X X iii. iv. Do not operte the vehicle with severely dmged system component or missing hrdwre. Ensure tht the hose(s) re fully tightened down t oth ends. If there is loose hose: Tighten the hose y using 5/8 fixed wrench to hold the hose connnector ( in picture) nd chnnellock pliers to turn the hose swivel ( in picture). Use the T-stem vlve on the hose to mesure the tire pressure or deflte/inflte the tire mnully. Do not use the Aperi service port on the Hlo to inflte tire. This could led to severe leks. MAINTENANCE

20 B. Lek Test i. Mesure the tire pressure s specified in the Mintennce Action A. If the tire is low, fill it to the recommended pressure nd tke note of which tire ws inflted. If the tire is low t two consecutive PMs, contct Aperi Customer Support. ii. Spry sopy wter mixture over ech connection point of the hose(s) nd look for ules tht could indicte lek. While sprying, lightly pull on the hoses to simulte forces felt y the hose(s) while driving to ensure ir is not escping from the tire vlve stem. If ules form, tighten hoses nd repet. If lek persists, complete Mintennce Action D1. C. Hrdwre Re-Torque i. Using torque wrench, verify the plte-to-rcket screws re tightened to the recommended vlues listed in the Torque Specifiction Tle. SAFETY CRITICAL INSPECTION Torque: 20 ft-l (27 N m) ii. Verify tht ll the screws, wshers, olts, nd nuts re present. If ny of the hrdwre is missing, replce it with Aperi-issued hrdwre. Contct Aperi Customer Support to otin replcement hrdwre. Operting vehicle with Hlo tht is not properly instlled could cuse the Hlo to detch. Tightening to higher or lower torque could cuse the Hlo to detch while the vehicle is moving. MAINTENANCE

21 D. Inspection of Servicele Items The hoses, rckets nd dptor pltes, discussed in this section, re servicle items tht require periodic inspection to ensure sfe use of the Hlo Tire Infltor. If dmge is noticed plese remove the Hlo from service nd contct Aperi for replcement prts. i. Remove the Hlo nd hu rcket from the vehicle following instructions in UNINSTALL section of the User Mnul nd wipe clen. Then closely inspect ech of the following servicele items. D1. Adptor Plte Inspection Remove the Hlo nd closely inspect the Adptor plte for crcks. Crcks my e very smll. Ensure the prts re clened nd look closely.
