music hall cruise control 2.0 INSTRUCTION MANUAL music hall http://www.musichallaudio.com

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PURCHASE You have selected an exceptional electronic speed control. Each component used in the construction of the cruise control 2.0 was selected to provide you with superior performance and the highest level of sound reproduction available today. We know of no electronic speed control that costs as much to produce yet sells for so little. The precise and elegant design of this electronic speed control makes it easy to install and operate. Please take a few moments to read over the operating instructions to ensure that you get the best performance from your speed control and years of trouble- free service. SAFETY GUIDELINES This product is designed and manufactured to strict quality and safety standards. However, you should be aware of the following installation and operation precautions: 1. Take heed of warnings and instructions Read all the instructions before connecting or operating the speed control. Keep this manual so you can refer to these safety instructions. 2. Water and Moisture To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose the electronic speed control to moisture or water. If the speed control is exposed to moisture, immediately disconnect the power cord from the wall. Take the speed control to an authorized music hall service center for inspection. Do not touch the speed control, power cord, or plug with wet hands. 3. Object or liquid entry Do not allow foreign objects or liquids into the unit. If this happens, immediately disconnect the power cord from the wall and take the unit to an authorized music hall service center for inspection. 4. Heat Keep the electronic speed control away from naked flames, radiators, heat registers, stoves, or any other heat- producing appliances (including amplifiers). 5. Climate The electronic speed control has been designed for use in moderate climates. Do not attempt to use below 41 degrees Fahrenheit (5 degrees Celsius) or above 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius). 6. Racks and Stands Place the electronic speed control on a fixed, level surface strong enough to support its weight. Do not place it on a moveable cart that could tip over. We recommend only using stands approved for use with audio equipment. 2

7. Cleaning A soft towel can be used. 8. Power Sources Connect the electronic speed control to a power supply of the type and voltage described in the operating instructions or specified on the rear panel of the unit. 9. Power- cord protection Connect the electronic speed control to the power outlet only with the supplied power supply. Do not modify the supplied power supply in any way. Do not attempt to defeat grounding and/or polarization provisions. Do not use extension cords. Do not route the power cord where it will be crushed, pinched, bent at severe angles, exposed to heat, or damaged in any way. 10. Non- use periods If the speed control is to be left unused for a long period of time, the power supply should be unplugged from the wall outlet. 11. Damage Requiring Service Stop using the electronic speed control immediately and have it inspected by an authorized Music Hall service center whenever: 1. The power supply cord or plug has been damaged. 2. The electronic speed control has been exposed to rain. 3. The speed control does not operate properly. 4. The speed control has been dropped or damaged. 5. Smoke or any unusual smell is detected from the electronic speed control. 3

GETTING STARTED Thank you for purchasing the Music Hall cruise control 2.0 electronic speed control. This manual provides valuable information that will help you get optimum performance from your system. Please contact your authorized Music Hall dealer for any additional clarifications you may require. Save the shipping carton and all enclosed packing material for future use. Shipping or moving the cruise control 2.0 in anything other than the original packing material may result in severe damage that is not covered by the warranty. Be sure to keep the original sales receipt; it is your best record of the date of purchase, which you will need in the event warranty service is required. INTRODUCTION This unit permits the electronic speed control of music hall and project turntables between 33.3 and 45 rpm and also permits the replay of records by allowing 78 rpm with the appropriate pulley and cartridge. The replay speed can be increased and decreased in twenty steps of 0.1 rpm. The cruise control 2.0 will provide speed control for music hall turntables with an AC synchronous motor, many project models, and turntables with 120v AC synchronous motor. The cruise control works with the music hall 2.2, 5.1, and 7.1 series turntables. Please consult your dealer for a full list. *DOES NOT WORK WITH THE X.3 RANGE OF MUSIC HALL TURNTABLES AS THEY HAVE DC MOTORS* CONNECTING THE RECORD PLAYER 16V motor (turntable is currently powered by an existing wall wart style power supply) Disconnect and remove your existing wall wart power supply from your turntable. The original power supply is then no longer required. 4

1. Connect one end of the small cable supplied to the female receptacle on the back of the cruise control labeled OUTPUT ~16V 3W. 2. Connect the other end of the small cable supplied to the motor power supply housing (on the bottom back or side of the turntable). Connect the small male end of the cable attached to the wall wart power supply to the female input on back of the cruise control labeled INPUT ~16V 1A. 3. Move the belt to the larger 45rpm motor pulley position. 4. Plug the AC end of the wall wart power supply into the wall. Turntables without and external wall wart power supply (120V motor) should be connected to the - OUTPUT ~120V 3W receptacle on the cruise control. There is no need to use the small connecting cable supplied with the cruise control. Store this cable in a safe memorable space in case you upgrade your turntable to a more contemporary 16V motor model. OPERATION Press the 33/45 button on the front of the cruise control to change speeds from 33.3/45rpm. Press and hold the 33/45 button to engage standby which stops the motor from spinning. Push the button again to begin the motor spinning. The selected speed will be displayed digitally in the front display window on the cruise control. Please always start the turntable at 33.3 rpm and then switch to the higher desired speed. PITCH CONTROL Repeatedly press the (- ) slower or (+) faster buttons to decrease or increase the replay speed in twenty steps of 0.1rpm respectively. 5

SWITCHING ON AND OFF Pressing the power switch on your music hall turntable alternately starts or stops the motor. 78 RPM REPLAY In order to replay records at 78 rpm your turntable must be equipped with the appropriate 78 rpm pulley. This pulley is available as an optional accessory. After fitting the 78 rpm pulley proceed as follows: Remove the platter and fit the belt around the larger step of the pulley. Replace the platter, start the turntable at 33.3 and switch the speed to 45 rpm, the platter will revolve at 78 rpm. TECHNICAL SPECS Nominal speeds.. 33.3 and 45 rpm.
