Power steering fluid leak repair Perform a power steering function test. Conduct an inspection of the power steering system to locate the power steering fluid leak. Remove and install the new part or tighten the loose connection. Then top off the power steering fluid level and if necessary, bleed off any air that has entered the system. The vehicle s power steering system is an enclosed hydraulic circuit. Therefore, any leaks can disable the system and reduce the performance of the power steering system. From a safety stand point, a power steering system failure on the road can result in a dangerous situation, and possibly lead to an accident. Also, exposure to moist ambient air can damage power steering seals and internal components such as the pump, or steering gear and significantly increase the price of the repair. AI-101 Power steering leak at pump The vehicle s power steering system is a very important component that is frequently overlooked during service and maintenance. Repairing leaks in this system will extend its life, improve the power steering function, and greatly reduce the chance of a power steering system failure. Air filter replacement Remove the air filter element from the air filter housing. Clean the air filter housing and inspect the fresh air duct hose for damage, dirt, or obstructions. Inspect the warm air intake hose for signs of deterioration. Install a new filter element, and then reinstall the air filter housing access panel. A dirty or clogged air filter can affect the fuel economy and overall vehicle performance. Both diesel and gasoline powered engines are designed to maintain a specific air-fuel ratio. A restricted air filter can affect the way the engine maintains the correct air-fuel mixture. If the air filter is restricted, the fuel mileage and overall vehicle drivability can deteriorate rapidly. New power steering pump installed AI-102 Dirty and restricted air filter Replacing your air filter element is a quick and effective way to keep your engine running at its peak performance. A clean air filter helps your engine work more efficiently by letting the airflow get to the engine with no restrictions. A clean air filter can also prolong the life of your engine. New air filter 7

Oil and filter change Completely drain all oil from the engine. Reinstall the oil drain plug using a new oil drain plug gasket, and torque the drain plug to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Remove the oil filter from the engine. Lubricate the seal on the new filter using clean motor oil. Install the new oil filter on the engine and tighten it to specification. Refill the engine with the correct amount of motor oil specified by the manufacturer. Start the engine and allow it run for over 30 seconds. Shut the engine off and check for any oil leaks beneath the vehicle. Check the oil level. Top off as necessary. Changing your engine oil and filter is the single most important vehicle maintenance that you can perform to ensure long engine life. Engine oil that is not changed when is should can develop sludge which can cause serious engine damage in less than 15,000 miles. Today s engine oils have additives and detergents that help to prevent sludge formation, but engine heat will eventually break down these additives so they can no longer protect your engine. The solution is to change your engine oil and filter at the recommended service intervals to ensure that your engine runs reliably for many years. Changing your engine oil and filter at or before the factory recommended service interval is the best way to protect your engine from premature wear or complete failure. Today s modern engines commonly last far beyond 100,000 miles when they are properly maintained with regular oil and filter changes. An oil and filter change is an inexpensive way to promote engine longevity and ensure good engine performance. Brake fluid leak diagnosis We first locate the specific point of the leak. Bleeder bolts, sometimes called bleeder valves, are located on the brake calipers and are designed to allow brake fluid to flow out of the system. If you've recently had some brake work done on your vehicle, it may be that one of your bleeder valves was inadvertently left a little loose. If that's the case, it's a simple matter of tightening the valve to stop the fluid flow. A master cylinder can leak internally and if it does, you may not see the leak on the driveway under your car. Your technician can check the integrity of the master cylinder to see if that is where the leak is occurring. Your safety and the safety of other drivers depend on your brakes. Remember, brake fluid is essential for the brake system to operate properly. Leaks in the system release fluid, causing reduced (or even complete loss of) brake pressure. If you don't address the problem, your vehicle will eventually run out of brake fluid; however, chances are you won't get to that point, as the brakes won't continue to work after the fluid level drops beyond a certain level. AI-103 Sludge from lack of oil changes Clean, maintained engine internals AI-136 Brakes have many points where leaks can occur Make sure your brake fluid level is correct 8

Your braking system is comprised of series of rubber and steel hoses, check valves, pistons and cylinders. They're all joined together, and work in concert to slow and stop your vehicle. The vehicle's master cylinder acts as the heart and pumps brake fluid through brake lines to the extremities, or the calipers and drums. A lot of brake problems originate here. At all four corners of your vehicle, brake lines which connect the master cylinder to the different parts of the brake system can leak. In fact, every part within the braking system that connects to another part of the system has the potential to leak. Parts can become worn out, punctured, or even pulled apart by road debris. Whatever the situation, if you have a brake fluid leak, you need to find and repair it as soon as possible. Windshield wiper blade replacement Remove the wiper blade inserts from the wiper arms following the vehicle manufacturer's instructions (found in the owner's guide). Install new wiper blade inserts onto the wiper arms. Thoroughly clean the windshield. The ability to drive safely interests all of us. Having a clean windshield is a necessity for safe driving. Most driving decisions are dependent on the driver having a clear view of the road ahead. Worn or torn wiper blades do not effectively clean the windshield, and a dirty windshield can obstruct the drivers view, possibly resulting in an accident. AI-147 Impaired view from worn wiper blades Most wiper blade manufacturers recommend replacing your wiper blades or wiper blade inserts every 6 months or 6,000 miles. Something as simple and as inexpensive as replacing your windshield wiper blades will make your driving experience for you and your family a safer one. New wiper blades 9

Cabin filter replacement Access the cabin or pollen filter according to the vehicle manufacturer s service information. This usually involves opening the glove box and removing the bolt to lower the door. Remove the old cabin air filter from its housing. Replace with new cabin air filter. Replace the bolt to attach the glove box door. Close the glove box door. Clean the housing of all dust and debris. Install the new pollen filter into its housing. The cabin or pollen filter is designed to filter out dust, pollen and other particles that would normally make their way into your vehicle through the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Pollen filters work very well, but need to be replaced as part of a scheduled maintenance program. Restricted and dirty pollen filters put a strain on the blower motor, which can cause it to be excessively noisy and even fail prematurely. This kind of strain on a blower motor can also cause problems with the vehicle wiring and electrical system, due to the excessive amperage required for the blower motor to function. Replacing the blower motor can be very expensive on some vehicles. AI-171 A dirty and clogged cabin air filter A clean cabin air filter A clean cabin or pollen filter can be very effective at keeping dust, pollen, and other unwanted particles from entering the interior of your car. Also, your blower motor will generate a higher volume of airflow, boosting the efficiency and effectiveness of your HVAC systems. Spark plug replacement Remove the spark plugs and spark plug wires. Some new vehicles use a coil mounted on top of the spark plug. Perform a compression test as necessary. Replace the spark plugs and reinstall the spark plug wires (if equipped). If the engine is equipped with a distributor cap and rotor, inspect these components for signs of wear and arcing. Replace any worn or damaged component. Test drive the vehicle to confirm proper engine performance. The efficiency and performance of your engine depend on it staying in proper running order. Spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor caps and rotors (all parts that wear out over time) require periodic replacement. If any of these parts are worn out or damaged, it can have a negative effect on the way that you engine runs. A rough running engine that is out of tune, will also have excessive tailpipe emissions, and will often fail a state emissions test. It will also cost more to operate and be less fuel-efficient. An engine with excessive emissions also runs the risk of damaging the oxygen sensors and catalytic converter. AI-252 Worn out spark plug New spark plug Keeping your engine tuned properly is essential to long engine life and good fuel economy. An engine that is well maintained will provide you with good, reliable service for many years while reducing hazardous emissions. 10
