Yield response to copper, zinc nd boron fertilizers in contrsting pririe soils Nobur Rhmn nd Jeff Schoenu Deprtment of Soil Science University of Ssktchewn Mrch 15, 2016 www.ussk.c
Justifiction Micronutrient elements required in smller mount but essentil for plnt growth The rnge between deficiency nd toxicity cn be very nrrow Best pproch depends on crop, soil nd gronomic fctors (Allowy, 2008) www.ussk.c
Justifiction Micronutrient deficiency issues in priries: Site specific: ptchy distribution ssocited with field scle vribility of soil properties Crop nd element specific: Cu deficiency for cerel crops, Zn for pulse crops like pe, while B pplictions my be beneficil for cnol www.ussk.c
Justifiction Inconsistent yield response to fertiliztion reported - Uncertinty bout soil test criticl levels Soil nd environmentl properties long with fertilizer form nd ppliction method cn control fte nd efficcy - Trnsformtion nd complextion - Redistribution to unvilble pools Ling et l., 1990,91; Krmnos nd Goh, 2001; Krmnos et l. 2003,b www.ussk.c
Objective To evlute the impct of micronutrient fertiliztion on yield of crops grown in contrsting pririe soils under polyhouse conditions Prmeters evluted include micronutrient fertilizer form, ppliction method nd effect of crop rottion www.ussk.c

Summry Whet grown on two of the five soils responded significntly to Cu fertiliztion. -one soil ws below criticl level (Uklt), one not (Sceptre). - soil pplied Cu effective on both, folir only one. No significnt response of pes to Zn fertiliztion on ny of the five soils. - four of five soils bove criticl level, one soil mrginl. - grees with Anderson (2015) for Zn on lentil. Cnol responded to B on one soil (Whitefox). - soil ws below criticl limit - only soil ppliction ws effective. www.ussk.c
