INTRODUCTION For many years, both consumer and lighting market has been dominated by the conventional 1 1/2 in. diameter T12 fluorescent tubes + magnetic ballast systems. Only a few years ago that original technology started to be replaced with 20% energy-saving T8 tube + electronic ballast system. Five years ago, U.S.WAY introduced to the market the 4ft and 5ft long T5 High Power tubes that teamed up with hi-frequency ballasts expanded that saving up to 30% and set up new standard for illumination that more closely resembled natural light. Their brightness could be upgraded thanks to the slim 5/8 in. diameter T5 tube profile that enables its gases and rare-earth Triphosphors to function more efficiently. The third generation of the fluorescent lighting includes none of the above. Moreover, it is not even fluorescent any more! Both phosphor and ballasts have been replaced with Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that are winning the market with 60% energy saving and the life span of 50,000 hrs. Two LED technologies have been developed: TH (Through Hole) and SMD (Surface Mount Device) Even though TH LED technology can be very effective, inexpensive, and available; USWAY favors SMD LEDs due to their high efficacy of up to 131 lumen per Watt, better Color Rendering Index, and panoramic beam angle. Light distribution LED SMD tubes are characterized with the 160 Wide Beam angle recommended for offices, community stores (7-Eleven, Convenient), etc. 10 20 Light distribution results indicate the illumination level of 0.65 fc (7Lux) from distance of 19.7 ft, 3.7 fc (40Lux) from distance of 10 ft, and 4.4 fc (47Lux) from distance of 7.5 ft.
