Rev. 3/3/07 LAD (6- STEPS), MANUAL Signal Words: This manual uses SIGNAL WORDS to indicate the likelihood of personal injuries, as well as the probable seriousness of injuries that might occur if the product is misused in the ways described. Other signal words call attention to uses of the product likely cause property damage. The signal words used in this manual appear below along with the meaning of each word: Identifies a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, WILL result in DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY. Use of this signal word is limited to the most extreme situations. Identifies a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, COULD result in DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY. Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, COULD result in MINOR or MODERATE injury. Identifies practices likely to result in product/property damage, such as operation that might damage the ladder. Hazards of Improper Use: Vestil strives to identify foreseeable hazards associated with the use of its products. However, no manual can address every possible risk. The end-user ultimately is responsible for exercising sound judgment at all times. If this product is used improperly or carelessly, the operator and/or bystanders might sustain serious personal injuries or could even be killed. ALWAYS use the product properly: Failure to read and understand the entire manual before assembling, using or servicing the product constitutes misuse. DO NOT exceed the rated load of the ladder. The total weight applied to the ladder (weight of the user plus tools, etc.) must be less than the rated load. DO NOT climb the ladder UNLESS the front casters retract out of contact with the ground when weight is applied to the bottom step. DO NOT use the ladder on uneven, inclined, or unstable surfaces. The surface must be able to support the ladder and a full capacity load. ONLY use the ladder on level, even surfaces. Make sure that you will not contact overhead objects with your body or with the ladder during use or while moving the ladder. Always unload the ladder before leaving it unattended. Remove foreign matter, like mud or grease, from your shoes before stepping onto the ladder. ALWAYS use the handrails while ascending and descending the ladder. DO NOT attempt to increase the height of the platform or of any individual step by standing on objects placed on the ladder. Inspect the ladder as described in Inspections & Maintenance on p. 6. DO NOT use the ladder if it is not in normal condition. Immediately tag out the ladder and replace each part that fails to pass inspection. DO NOT use the product until it is fully restored to normal condition. ONLY use manufacturer-approved replacement parts. DO NOT use the ladder if any unusual noise or movement is observed while weight is applied to it. Remove the unit from service. DO NOT use the ladder again until it is restored to normal operating condition. DO NOT lean or reach over the sides of the ladder. Reposition the ladder if you cannot safely reach the object you want. DO NOT remove or obscure any label (see Labeling diagram on p. 7). All labels must be readable and undamaged. DO NOT modify this ladder! Unauthorized modifications automatically void the limited warranty (see p. 8) and might make the ladder unsafe to use. This product must be properly maintained to function properly. Keep the ladder clean & dry. Periodically check the integrity of the ladder frame. The ladder should be solid and square and free of rust and corrosion. Copyright 07 Vestil Manufacturing Co. Page of 8

Cross bar 5 / 6 in. flat washer 5 / 6 8 x / bolt 5 / 6 in. lock washer 5 / 6 in. 8 lock nut 5 / 6 in. 8 x / in. bolt Brake release bracket Using the ladder: Before climbing the ladder, press on the bottom step and confirm that the front casters automatically rotate upward and out of contact with the ground. This safety feature ensures that the ladder is supported in front by the square caps on the bottoms of the front legs rather than by the front casters. The caps prevent the front end of the ladder from sliding. If the casters do not automatically retract, do not use the ladder until it is restored to normal operating condition. To move the ladder, bring the front casters back into contact with the ground. To do this, press on the brake release brackets while lifting the ladder by the handrails. Inspections & Maintenance: Regular inspections and maintenance are necessary to keep the ladder in normal working condition. Initial inspection before using a new ladder for the first time, inspect it to confirm normal condition. After the first us, inspect the following features at least once per month: Front casters/bottom step mechanism: inspect daily for cracks and damage. The casters should retract automatically whenever weight is applied to the bottom step. They should not wobble while spinning but should roll smoothly and easily. Examine the caster stems and retaining hardware. Springs should be undamaged and should forcefully recoil. Rear wheels, axle, & hardware: Make sure that each wheel is undamaged and rotates smoothly and evenly. Examine the axle and the axle receiver (see step 4, p. 4) of the back leg weldment. They should not be bent or cracked. Confirm that all retaining hardware is securely fastened. All frame pieces (step weldment, back leg weldment, brace supports) and all fasteners (bolts, nuts, pins): Inspect weekly for damage such as excessive wear, warps, and cracks. Replace all parts that are damaged before using the ladder again. All frame pieces should be square, rigid and free of rust and corrosion. Remove rust with steel wool or a metal bristle brush and apply touch-up paint. Handrails: Examine the handrails. Confirm that each handrail is solidly fastened to the step weldment(s). Check all fasteners and tighten any connection that is loose. Rubber caps (on front legs; see step 4 on p. 4): check the caps for cracks and/or excessive or uneven wear. If either cap is significantly worn or damaged, replace it before returning the ladder to service. Maintenance: in addition to correcting issues discovered during inspections, maintain the ladder by Cleaning the ladder to remove dirt and grime, especially from step surfaces. Applying touchup paint wherever the finish is damaged. Copyright 07 Vestil Manufacturing Co. Page 6 of 8
