Order No. 92202 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS EXTRA 300 XS RC electric-powered aerobatic model for two 250 mah LiPo cells and four-function 2.4 GHz radio control system Wingspan 500mm - 1 -

Please be sure to read through the Safety Notes in the appendix to these operating instructions. If you ever dispose of the model, you must also pass on the full operating instructions to the new owner. Introduction The EXTRA 300 XS is a mini-size RC aerobatic aeroplane for model pilots with a little flying experience under their belts. It is supplied with all the accessories required, and offers an outstanding performance. No adhesive is required to complete the aircraft. Accessories included in the set Graupner 2.4 GHz radio control system, set to Mode I, including four AA dry cells LiPo battery charger and PSU for mains use (230 Volt A.C. / 50 Hz) 2/250 7.4 V LiPo battery Replacement propeller with clip hub Undercarriage Screwdriver Two wing retaining screws Operating instructions Before attempting to fly the model, please study the operating instructions very thoroughly, so that you have a clear understanding of the functions of the model and accessories, and how to assemble the aeroplane. Charging the LiPo battery Place the battery and charger on a non-inflammable surface, and connect them as shown in the photo. Connect the mains PSU to the mains socket, and the red monitor lamp on the charger will glow. Now connect the LiPo battery to the charger, and the green charge monitor lamp will glow. - 2 -

The LiPo battery is fully charged when the green monitor lamp goes out. When this happens, disconnect the LiPo battery and the mains PSU to end the charge process. Open the battery compartment on the underside of the transmitter, and insert the AAsize dry cells as shown in the photo. Caution: maintain correct polarity at all times. Close the battery compartment again, and the transmitter is ready for use. - 3 -

Please note that the dry cells in the transmitter are not rechargeable. When they are exhausted, replace them with the battery set, Order No. 3426 (not included). The 2.4 GHz transmitter Temporarily switch the transmitter on, and check the information on the screen: the transmitter battery should be 100% full, i.e. the symbol indicating battery voltage must be completely full. Switch the transmitter off again for the moment. Assembling the model - 4 -

Push the wing into place, and fit the single screw (supplied) to retain it. Remove the battery cover, and fit the LiPo battery as shown in the photo. Clip the propeller onto the motor shaft, as shown in the photo. The clip connection automatically lets go in a crash, avoiding damage to the electric motor. Please note that the replacement propeller is supplied with the hub already fitted; if this is not required, then it can be removed by pushing it off to one side. Insert the undercarriage, then fit the battery cover again and rotate the front latch to secure it. - 5 -

Connecting the BEC plug and socket, as shown in the picture, switches the receiving system on; if you now switch the transmitter on, the receiver is automatically bound to the transmitter, and the four RC functions - aileron, rudder, elevator and throttle - can be checked. Checking the control surfaces The transmitter sticks are arranged as shown earlier: the right-hand stick controls throttle (motor speed) and roll (aileron). Stick back (towards you) = motor stopped; stick forward = full power. The left-hand stick controls elevator and rudder: pulling it back (towards you) = up-elevator, stick forward = down-elevator. Check the control surface neutral positions, and adjust the trims on the transmitter if necessary until they are exactly central (neutral). This is very important, otherwise the model will tend to veer off to one side, or climb / dive steeply. Pressing the left-hand stick once reduces the control surface travels to around 50%; we recommend this setting for the first few flights. Changing the transmitter mode If you wish to alter the transmitter mode, unscrew the aerial retainer on the back of the transmitter, rotate the aerial through 180, an d fit the retaining screw again. Flying Wait for a day with little or no breeze. Prepare the model completely, ready to fly, and check the control surfaces again. The ideal flying site is an unobstructed grassy field, either level or sloping gently into wind. Never launch close to buildings or trees, as the turbulent air may make it impossible to control the model. Switch the motor on and push the aeroplane firmly forward, directly into wind; do not throw it! You can achieve the correct launching speed by trotting forward a few paces. The model s nose should be angled up slightly (approx. 15 ) when launching. Keep the aeroplane climbing gently in a straight line by applying minimal aileron and elevator corrections. Any fine-tuning required is carried out using the trim buttons adjacent to the sticks. The model should always be landed with the motor switched off, heading directly into wind. Apply slight up-elevator just before touch-down in order to reduce the model s groundspeed. All of us at GRAUPNER Modellbau hope you have many fine flights with your new EXTRA 300 XS - 6 -

Replacement parts Order No. 92200.12 Order No. 92202.20 Order No. 3426 2/250 7.4 V LiPo battery Replacement propeller Four AA-size dry cells Important note regarding the proper disposal of dry and rechargeable batteries: The German Battery Regulation states that every consumer is legally required to return all used and exhausted dry and rechargeable batteries. Discarding these items in the domestic waste is prohibited. All dry and rechargeable batteries can be returned to your local community collection point, to our retailers, and to any other retail outlet where dry and rechargeable batteries are sold, at no cost to you. Any batteries supplied by us can also be returned to us for proper disposal. Please send them, with adequate postage pre-paid, to the following address: Graupner GmbH & Co. KG Service: Gebrauchte Batterien Henriettenstr. 94-96 73230 Kirchheim unter Teck Dry and rechargeable batteries which contain toxic materials are marked with the following symbols, in order to indicate that they must not be discarded through the domestic waste system. The chemical symbol for the heavy metal is stated under each waste bin symbol: Cd Hg Pb Battery contains: 1) Li-Po: Lithium-Polymer, 2) Cd: Cadmium, 3) Hg: Mercury, 4) Pb: Lead Instructions and warning notes regarding the use of LiPo batteries Mishandling can result in explosion, fire, smoke and poisoning. Neglecting these instructions and warning notes can also lead to loss of performance and other defects. The capacity of all LiPo batteries diminishes steadily with each charge / discharge cycle. Storing batteries at extreme temperatures can also result in a gradual loss of capacity. The LiPo battery must only be charged using the charger supplied in the set. Do not modify the charger or the charge lead in any way. The LiPo battery to be charged must be placed on a non-inflammable, heat-resistant and nonconductive surface for the duration of the charge process. Keep inflammable and volatile materials well away from the charging station. Batteries must be supervised when on charge. Avoid short-circuits Never short-circuit a battery. Any short-circuit allows a very high current to flow, which will cause the cells to heat up. This can lead to loss of electrolyte, gassing and even explosion. You can avoid the risk of shorting your Graupner LiPo battery by keeping it well away from any conductive material or surface. Strength of the foil housing The aluminium laminate foil housing can easily be damaged by any sharp object such as a pin, knife, nail or similar. Any damage to the foil renders the battery unusable. If the puncture causes a shortcircuit, the battery could go up in flames. Temperatures above 70 C can also damage the foil ho using, causing it to leak. This results in loss of electrolyte, and the battery is ruined. Dispose of any damaged battery in the proper manner. Mechanical shock LiPo batteries are not as mechanically robust as metal-canned battery cells. For this reason you should always avoid mechanical shocks caused by dropping, striking, bending, etc. Never cut, score, deform or drill into the battery s foil housing. Never twist or bend a LiPo battery. - 7 -

If a LiPo battery is damaged, it must never be used again. Indications of damaged cells include housing damage, cell distortion, escaping electrolyte and a chemical smell (electrolyte). Damaged or otherwise defective cells constitute toxic waste, and they must be discarded in the proper manner. General warning notes LiPo batteries must never be incinerated. LiPo batteries must not be submerged in fresh water, seawater or drinks. All contact with fluids of all kinds must be avoided. LiPo batteries are not playthings, and must be kept out of the hands of children. Make sure that your LiPo batteries are not within reach of young persons. LiPo batteries must be kept well away from babies and small children. If a battery should be swallowed, seek emergency medical assistance without delay. LiPo batteries must not be placed in a microwave oven, and must not be subjected to pressure: the results can be smoke and fire. Never dismantle a LiPo battery, as this can cause internal short-circuits. The result may be gassing, fire, explosion and other problems. The electrolyte and electrolyte vapours contained in LiPo batteries are harmful. Take great care to avoid direct contact with electrolyte. If this material contacts your skin, eyes or other body parts, wash it off immediately with plenty of clean water, and be sure to consult a doctor as soon as possible. General safety notes This model is suitable for young persons of fourteen years of age or over. It is now a legal requirement to obtain valid third-party insurance before you operate any model aircraft. Before attempting to operate the model for the first time it is essential to read right through the operating instructions attentively. You alone are responsible for the safe operation of your RC model aircraft. Young persons must be supervised by a responsible adult who is aware of the possible hazards involved in the operation of model aeroplanes. In legal terms our models are classed as aircraft, and as such are subject to legal regulations and restrictions which must be observed at all times. Our brochure»modellflugrecht, Paragrafen und mehr«(model Aviation Law, Legal Requirements and more) is available under Order No. 8034.02, and contains a summary of all these rules. Your local model shop should have a copy which you can read. Be sure to use only those parts included in the kit, together with other genuine Graupner accessories and replacement parts as recommended expressly by us. Even if you change a single component, you can no longer be sure that the system will work reliably, and such changes also invalidate your guarantee. Always keep a safe distance away from people and objects when flying; never fly low over people s heads, and never fly directly towards them. Never fly the model in adverse conditions, e.g. rain, storm or strong wind, or temperatures below -5 C or above +35 C. Extreme temperatures can lead to un favourable changes in battery capacity and other alterations to material characteristics. All model flyers must behave in such a way that there is no danger of them endangering or adversely affecting public safety and order, and especially other people and property. Never fly the model close to high-tension overhead cables, industrial estates, residential areas, public roads, squares, school playgrounds, parks and playing fields, etc. If you are flying a model aircraft for the first time we strongly recommend that you ask an experienced modeller to check the aeroplane first, and be ready to help you during the first few flights. Propellers powered by a motor constitute a constant injury hazard: never allow one to contact any part of your body, as a propeller spinning at high speed can easily cut your finger badly. Ensure that nothing can foul or stall a spinning propeller. You must be able to tell the position and attitude of the model at all times during the flight, so that you are in a good position to control it and avoid accidents. If you notice signs of interference or any other problem during a flight, initiate the landing immediately for safety reasons. Modellers must always give way to full-size and man-carrying aircraft of all kinds. Ensure that take-off and landing strips are kept free from persons and other obstacles. - 8 -

Ensure that you replace dry cells in good time and keep your batteries fully charged, as the radio control system cannot function properly without a working power supply.
