From the President 2012 should be an exciting year for the Smoky Mountain Region. Our members have worked hard to create a schedule that should fit everyone s interest (see inside back cover - ed.). First of all, we have monthly socials where we can all get together to enjoy each other s company and a nice meal. Next, we have five driveouts plus four tech sessions at area shops and four autocrosses for those who really like to go all out. It s a great time to be a PCA member. I hope you join us for some of the exciting events that we have planned this year. I look forward to seeing you! Submitted by Cliff Killion Photos provided by Jim Marsh This year, our annual Christmas party was held at Jubilee Banquet Facility in North Knoxville. Their Christmas decorations were beautifully arranged and the evening started with lots of mingling between old and new friends. A delicious dinner was served at 7:30 followed by a short program to recognize the incoming 2012 club officers. Outgoing president, Nick Imperato, received a nice Porsche jacket for his service this past year. DJ Scott Goebel did an excellent job keeping a good mix of music going throughout the night. A few club members even took advantage of the dance floor. 4 www.smtpca.org

Enthusiast of the Year honor went to Bob Hutchens. If you were unable to make this year s party, mark your calendar for next year! Please visit the web site at www.smtpca.org for more information as it becomes available. January 2012 5

AUTOCROSS news 2012 VIC + CAROL S MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR (and wings) First of all DATE CHANGE! Due to a work related conflict, we ve had to change the date to 01.14.12. Hope that doesn t screw things up too badly! We will meet at Puleos Grille at Strawberry Plains exit off I-40 East. Meet time will be 1030AM that Saturday morning. After the mandatory PCA sign offs, etc., the tour will take off. You can run in packs or individually your choice. The tour will take you east of Knoxville, using out of the way roads (all tarmac), allowing you to enjoy the winter atmosphere, as well as your Porsche! The tour will have very simple directions to follow, and there will be no checkpoints, or cows to count, or rusty mail boxes to collect. After about a 1.5/2.0 hour ride, you will end the tour at an eatery offering wings and adult beverages. We will collect a flat charge to eat and be merry. Time to get that Porsche out, and enjoy it! Pre-register with Vic at 865.207.4303 or email to vicrola@hughes.net. The 2012 autocross season kicks off March 24th with an Autocross School to be held at Splash Country in Pigeon Forge, TN. Activities are set to begin at 10:00am. This is a great time for those new to the sport to come out and learn from the pros. If you ve autocrossed before, come out for tips on getting around the course quicker. The next autocross of the season will be part of the Spring Thing 2012 festivities at the end of April. Use the skills learned at the autocross school and see how much you have improved. Keep those skills sharp for the second autocross in less than a month. That s right - just three short weeks will pass and we will return to the parking lot at Splash Country for another day of cone dodging. Enjoy the summer and early fall events and then return to Splash Country in November for the final autocross held in conjunction with Fall Fest 2012. SS ed. I could not find the sports car of my dreams, so I built it myself. -Ferdinand Porsche January 2012 6

I have a background in graphics, photography and web design and hope to bring my creative skills to this publication. Send in photos and a write up about it (or just send in photos - we all like pictures). Have a favorite forum on the internet you like to visit? Send me the link and I will add to a planned links listing. Saw an interesting article on the internet? Send me the link and I will add to the From the Web section. Basically, if it s of interest to you and is Porsche related, others will also find it interesting. The newsletter is published monthly as a PDF on the internet. Printed issues will be published in February, May, August, and November. If you have time sensitive material, please send to me by the 20th of the month prior to publication.
