Always use bottom notch with small groove. For 10M strand and larger, rotate hanger cap and use large groove. Secure the hanger brackets to strand using 50 in lbs (5.65 N m) torque. For self-supporting cable, tighten to 105 in lbs - 115 in lbs (11.86 N m - 12.99 N m) torque. 5.02 Install shield connectors and attach braid from terminal body. 5.03 Splice block tail(s) to selected cable pairs per standard procedure. 6.0 End Seal Installation 6.01 Remove plugs for the desired number of cables to be installed. Use appropriate port as needed for cable size to be installed (Check cable range shown on end seal). 4

Do not wrap endseal or vinyl tape tightly. Distance Between End SLiC Seal Centers 3x28 5x30 24" (610 mm) 26" (660 mm) Location of end seal in SLiCs is not flush with end. 6.03 Cut on dotted line, if necessary, according to the following chart: SLiC 3x28 5x30 If end seal bundle size is >3.8 (97 mm) >5.8 (147 mm) Cut method and location indicated by dotted line on each End Seal. 6.04 Cutting is optional, but makes closing of closure easier with larger diameter cable configurations. If cutting is not performed, then compress SLiC end by using knife to slit through thin plastic membrane. 5
Then place a heavy duty cable tie, hose clamps or metal banding through the slit on each end and tighten to secure and compress seal. 6.05 For sheath repair of cables larger than maximum diameter as shown on end seal, cut tail until end seal bundle diameter is approximately 0.3 to 0.5" (8 mm to 13 mm) greater than diameter of SLiC; i.e., SLiC 3 x 33 should have a maximum end seal bundle in the range of 3.3 to 3.5" (84 mm to 89 mm). 7.0 Terminal Assembly 7.01 Tie splice bundle and cable ends to bond bar. 7.02 Close latches to seal assembly. White cable ties used for clarity only. 8.0 Drop Wire Termination 8.01 Open terminal box door. 8.02 Use the slitter provided in the terminal to split the ends of the drop wire leads approximately 2" (51 mm). There are two slots in the slitter, the top slot is for mini-drop and the bottom slot is for regular drop. Do not strip insulation. 8.03 Dress wires, staggering lead lengths by cutting according to dimension shown. 3/8" (10 mm) 1" (25 mm) 2" (51 mm) 8.04 Insert shorter wire into hole on tip (T) terminal post, and rotate the lug CLOCKWISE 1/4 turn with a 216 c (7/16" or 11 mm) terminal wrench. Be sure to insert wire until it stops. Hold wire in place while terminating. Turn lug 1/4 turn only. DO NOT over torque. 6
8.05 Insert longer wire into the hole on ring (R) terminal post, and rotate lug CLOCKWISE 1/4 turn with a 216 c (7/16" or 11 mm) terminal wrench. Carefully follow safety, health, and disposal information for AMP Sealant given on label or Material Safety Data Sheet. 8.06 An additional conductor can be inserted in each terminal post by rotating lug COUNTERCLOCKWISE 1/4 turn and inserting wire into the empty hole and then turning the lug CLOCKWISE. (A previously terminated wire should have 1/4" (6 mm) cut off length to provide a new end for retermination). 8.07 Complete termination log. 8.08 Close door and check for proper sealing. 9.0 Testing 9.01 Insert test clips into test ports and follow company procedure for testing. 10.0 Extending Terminal 10.01 To extend, use a standard SLiC 3 x 33 or 5 x 33 Aerial Closure. 10.02 Remove bond bar with tubing from closure and cut 6" (152 mm) from end. 10.03 Cut closure using center mark as a guide. Each cut half section will only fit over similar end of terminal body. 10.04 Install bond bar with tubing back on closure half. Use piece of braid from aerial terminal and attach to shield connector, or cut new braid to reach full length of extended splice opening. 10.05 Install half section over end of terminal body. 10.06 Reposition end seal in extended body, close latches to seal. White cable ties used for clarity only. 2.6 65 70 75 80 85 90 95 2.8 3.0 3.2 3.4 3.6 3.8 7
11.0 Lug Assembly Replacement 11.01 If lug needs to be replaced with red (priority circuit) lug, apply inward pressure to lug with 216 c (7/16") (11 mm) or equivalent wrench and turn lug 1/4 turn counterclockwise to open position. 11.02 Remove any conductors. 11.03 Use needle nose pliers to grasp only lug assembly (plastic lug and metal test tab) through test port. Carefully follow safety, health, and disposal information for AMP Sealant given on label or Material Safety Data Sheet. 11.04 Pull lug assembly straight out of post. 11.05 Select replacement lug assembly and place in open post. (Open position when access hole is in front). 11.06 Press down on top of lug assembly to seat in terminal block base. Lug assembly must be in the open position. 11.07 If additional sealant is needed, use AMP Sealant No. 769141-1. 11.08 Terminate drop wire as described in Section 8.0. 12.0 Accessories 12.01 AC-HB1 Aerial Closure Offset Hanger Bracket AC-HB2 Extended Hanger Bracket Designed to support and bond the SLiC Terminals to the messenger strand when there is more than one cable supported by the messenger.
