Square based cranks are now used for new work. #Comes without sleeves, these can be ordered (one per crank) with Cat No. 86/064352 (BRS-SM 220/11C). Additional Sleeve for Crank when double or triple action drive fitted: Cat Number BRS-SM Number Extra Quantity Required 86/064352 220/11C 1 (double) or 2 (triple) Depends on whether single, double or triple action back drive fitted. Quantities in these tables are based on single acting back drive. (For double or triple action; add items accordingly).
Specific items of equipment according to switch length and positioning: 2. Full Depth Rail and Clamplocks Back drive mounted in 6 foot on LHS Required Front RH downset 86/063980 253/4E 1 Back drive mounted in 6 foot on RHS Required Front LH downset 86/063975 253/3E 1 Back drive mounted in 4 foot on RHS Required Front LH downset 86/063975 253/3E 1 Note: the 4 foot back drive on clamplocks is usually mounted so the front connection rod is connected to the LHS of the front stretcher. If not, use RH downset rod Cat No. 86/063980, the rear straight rod remains unchanged. 3. Full Depth Rail and Machines Back drive mounted in 6 foot on LHS Required Front RH downset 86/033206 2473 1 Back drive mounted in 6 foot on RHS Required Front LH downset 86/033207 2474 1 Back drive mounted in 4 foot on LHS Required Front RH downset 86/10720 3230 1 /2* 25mm yellow painted band. These are used when tubular stretchers are fitted only. *If other type stretchers are used two straight connection rods are fitted instead.

This does not apply if straight connection rods are fitted to the front on some four foot back drives on UIC Rail. Also the general rule of thumb for viewing connection rods to see what angle they are is to pick them up by the turn pin connection end at the correct way around and view down the rod towards the thread. Front rods connected to Tubular stretchers do not have both collared nuts, only one is used. Rods are slowly coming through with one removed and an additional plain nut fitted in its place. If an old rod is used, take out some additional nuts to compensate. Front rods on tubular stretchers have special spherical washers fitted and also on the drive rod on machines. The spherical washers are attached to the nuts for the rear connection and these must be fitted to the new rod. Compiled by F.M. Spowart Version One October 2015.
