SPEEDSTOPPER R Rubber bolt down SpeedStopper traffic ramps will slow down all your traffic from the smallest car to the largest HGVs. Off the highway sites will often not have segregated pedestrian walkways as recommended by HSE so slowing the traffic down with speed bumps is a safe option. Our speed bumps cut to length to suit your site: The SpeedStopper range is unique in the UK because the rubber speed bumps can be supplied cut to the exact length to improve safety on your site. 15 years life - SpeedStopper solid rubber bumps perform better than asphalt, concrete or recycled plastic. Worldwide, there are millions of drivers slowing down over our ramps every day and keeping to safe and sensible speed limits. Bright yellow moulded end caps will give you improved visibility and extra site safety helping drivers see the SpeedStopper ramps clearly even in poor weather conditions and at night time. Speed bumps can be installed in minutes avoiding costly delays. There are three different speed ramps available for 5, 10 and 20 m.p.h. Highly visible day or night the black and yellow rubber with bright yellow end caps, the correct hazard warning colours and with powerful amber reflectors making sure the speed bumps can be seen 24/7. 1. SpeedStopper bumps cope with vehicles large and small. 2. SpeedStopper bumps, fixing kit plate + powerful amber reflectors. 3. SpeedStopper bumps are used by UK local authorities. Rubber ramps instead of concrete or asphalt? Hazard invented rubber speed ramps in 1971 of using rubber speed, they enforce and control traffic speeds and reduce the risk of any Can all types of vehicles drive over safely? We have 70mm, 60mm and 50mm high speed ramps for speeds from 5 to 20mph and Smart cars to the largest HGV can drive over. Will SpeedStopper slow the traffic down on my site? It s proven that drivers will slow down and pass over our ramps safely but to be effective the speed bumps and reflective warning signs have to be seen whatever the weather conditions day and night. Are rubber speed ramps safer than concrete or asphalt? Being rubber they help prevent damage to vehicles, SpeedStoppers are much lower height than the DfT speed humps. page 1

BART SPEED BUMPS BART Ramp the toughest speed bump in the world: Our design brief for this project was to design the toughest solid rubber speed bump on the safety market. BART speed bumps must slow down all types of traffic including the largest HGVs and give a long service life in the harshest of site conditions. The heavily ribbed rubber surface of the bump gives drivers maximum visual impact. Bright yellow end caps are supplied with every BART speed bump. As with the SpeedStopper there is a choice of fixing and the bump is cut to size, top entry bolt or with the fixing plate installation. You can install BART speed bumps with confidence in any location. All traffic even the largest HGVs can drive over safely and smoothly over all our range of long life speed ramps at speeds from 5 m.p.h.. Professional Speedstoppers and BART speed bumps are manufactured in solid tyre stock rubber to take all types and weights of vehicles from Smart cars to the largest HGVs. We reckon that if there is air in the tyres our solid rubber speed bumps will lift the vehicles and slow them down safely. HSE recommend the use of reflective warning signs: Drivers need to have a clear warning as they approach traffic ramps 24/7 in all weather conditions to create a safer working environment. Reduce the risk of accidents where there is a high density mix of pedestrians and traffic off the highway traffic. 1. BART solid rubber the tougest speed bump on the safety market. 2. BART rubber speed bumps can be plate or top concealed fixing. 3. Highly reflective class 1 warning and traffic signs, 24/7. 4. Michael Rodd on the BBC Tomorrows World program. Will BART speed bumps slow down all types of traffic? All our range of long life rubber speed bumps are designed for off highway use only to slow down all types of traffic from Smart cars to the largest HGVs. How long will these tough BART ramps last? All our ramps are manufactured in best quality rubber tyre compound. Traffic volumes will vary from site to site but our speed bumps have been proven to give over 15 years of service. We recommend this version of our speed ramps for those heavy duty installations such as waste transfer stations, etc. What are the correct warning signs? It is important to clearly show the speed limit for your site. The warning signs should be as the DfT highway code, printed on class 1 reflective signface material. page 2

FIXING KIT PACKS Professional with a long life solid rubber SpeedStopper speed bumps follow the camber of the road or car park and are very easy to install. Manufactured in heavy duty solid EPDM tyre rubber that is UV stable and suitable for most extremes of climate repelling attack from salt, oil and ozone. SpeedStopper and BART ramps can be fixed to all types of road surfaces. Our anchor fixing bolts are designed for asphalt, concrete or blocks paviours. Both our standard issue FX fixing plates and top entry concealed fixings (no plates required) can be installed very quickly, it takes just a few minutes. Kerb to kerb locations, leave just a small gap (100mm) at each end of the speed ramp for drainage and road gully cleaning and extra safety. We cut our speed bumps free of charge to the exact length to suit your site, i.e.. 4.85 metres, including end caps, no problem making sure you get the perfect fit every time. Concrete, Asphalt or Blocks: Our anchor bolts will secure our bumps to all road surfaces. Detailed fixing instructions are sent with all our speed bumps when shipped. for support from our technical team email tech@hazard.co.uk or call 0121 446 4433. Amber reflectors are an important safety feature and are an integral part of our FX plate fixing package. Designed for highway use, the amber reflectors are kept wiped clean and working 24/7 by all the traffic that passes over them. Photographs and illustrations from the top of the page 1. Installation is fast - no special tools, just a powerful masonry drill. 2. Heavy-duty nylon plugs for a secure fix in most road surfaces. 3. FX Plate fixing with powerful amber reflectors - no marking out. 4. Security Collars for a tamper proof installation. 5. Top entry concealed fixing bolts speed bumps no plates required. What is the maximum length of our speed bumps? We cut to size free of charge and ship speed bumps of any length to suit any road width, car park or site layout. Long lengths instead of small blocks assembled on site? Keeping the joints are kept to a minimum for a stronger ramp with longer lengths. PVC bumps are also available (page 6), do they work? Yes, but it depends on traffic volumes and weights. Remember, car tyres are still always made in rubber never in plastic. Low cost budget speed bump products are often moulded in recycled plastic not a material designed to give you and your site a long and trouble free service life. page 3

SMART SPEED BUMPS Extra wide rubber Smart speed bumps are designed to slow traffic down smoothly to 10 to 15 m.p.h. The extra wide Smart bump is designed to be much more comfortable for the driver and passengers when they drive over. 1000mm wide (driveover) Smart speed bumps is one of the widest available on the European market giving the benefits of a constructed hump with the convenience and safety of a bolt down solid rubber bump. Long design life, over 20 years, each section of the modular Smart speed bumps is moulded in a very tough high impact rubber, reinforced with carbon for maximum strength. For extra safety, each ramp is finished with solid rubber end caps. There is a choice of highly reflective panels on the speed bump (yellow or white) giving drivers maximum advance warning of the Smart bump at night time or in poor driving conditions. Highway approved reflective warning panels are a very important safety feature of the Smart speed bumps. Installation is fast and trouble free with four fixing points per 500m wide section of the Smart speed bump. It is a very proven fixing system, fitting a speed bump into position can be carried out live in less than an hour avoiding any costly road closures. 1. Bumps with white reflective panels for extra visibility. 2. Bumps with yellow (hazard) reflective panels for 24/7 visibility. 3. Extra wide Smart bumps can be fitted where people have access. 4. Installation in the CIty of London with special signage. 5. Special signage is often used in schools, free from injury etc. What are the benefits of a wider speed bump? DfT approved shape is designed to slow down traffic safely with minimum discomfort to drivers. Are these good value compared with other bumps on the market? Yes. Solid rubber Smart bump has a longer service life. Car tyres are never manufactured from plastic or recycled bits of rubber glued and held together with resin. Do I need signage to be installed on my site? Yes. Drivers need clear direction as to speed limits and obstacles on site. Warning signs inform drivers to take responsibility for their driving and are very important. Installing reflective DfT style signage help get the message across, see page 7. Are Smart bumps approved by the Health and Safety Executive? Yes, in general, if you cannot segregate pedestrians from traffic with dedicated walkways and barriers, HSE will recommend that you install speed bumps. page 4

MODULAR RUBBER SPEED BUMPS Modular rubber speed bumps are supplied in sections that can be quickly assembled. Each section of the solid rubber speed bump is designed to interlock with its neighbour giving the completed installation much more strength and stability. Drivers need to see the ramps day and night: Each speed bump section has bright red reflectors to give maximum warning to approaching drivers. Varying light and driving in poor weather makes the integral reflectors a very important safety feature. No special tools to install a ramp: A powerful masonry drill is needed it is important to drill 14mm holes in concrete or block surfaces and 13mm holes in softer surfaces such as asphalt and tarmac. Speed bumps can be installed fast when the location has been established. Assemble the sections for a final check, make sure the Speed bump is in a straight line. You will find it easy to mark the position of the fixing holes with a drill bit and then remove the section and drill the holes to a depth of 100mm. Please note if you are drilling blocks paviours make sure you use a new and sharp masonry drill bit. A proven design: The modular rubber Speed bump has been tested on sites worldwide to give you a trouble free service life and take all types of vehicles including HGVs. 1. Modular Speed bump ramp assembled before fixing. 2. All types of traffic can drive over safely. 3. The large modular speed bumps can protect a 25mm hose. 4. Rubber Speed bumps are also available in 50mm high versions. Why use bolt down rubber bumps instead of concrete or asphalt? Rubber is a safe material to drive over reducing the risk of damage to any vehicle passing over the ramp. Bolting a speed ramp in position also increases the visibility giving approaching drivers maximum warning. Will the colour rub off? No. Each section is moulded in self-coloured solid rubber making sure the speed bump will always have bright warning colours. Can I re-site the ramps? All our designs of speed ramps can be relocated and re-sited. The 2 part fixing system that we supply will remain in the road surface effectively sealing the road. page 5

MODULAR PVC SPEED BUMPS Our Eco PVC entry level modular speed bumps are very good value and a major safety product in use on sites all around the UK. This range of PVC speed bumps are designed for use where there is a mix of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Highly visible self-coloured PVC plastic speed bump system simply interlocks together to form a speed bump across your road or car park to suit your site and location. This product is visible 24/7 for approaching drivers; the black and yellow sections are the correct hazard warning colours and will slow down traffic safely to 5 to 10mph. The system is very professional looking and when installed very safe, the installed speed ramps are very tough and hard wearing taking all types of traffic including HGVs. No special tools to install a ramp, a powerful masonry drill is needed it is important to drill 14mm holes in concrete or block surfaces and 13mm holes in softer surfaces such as asphalt and tarmac. Manufactured in a tough wearing PVC plastic the design of the speed bumps has soft rounded edges for maximum safety. They can be used in most applications including retail parks where there is a high volume of traffic. Reflective safety and warning signage is a very important feature of the ECO speed bump system and can be customised to suit the location and application. 1. Modular PVC Speed Bump ramp assembled in to a speed bump. 2. Sturdy interlock design for fast assembly on site. 3. PVC speed bumps will slow down all types of traffic. 4. Choose from our large range of reflective warning signage. How hard wearing are PVC bumps compared to rubber? Very difficult question to answer. Rubber is more expensive than PVC which is always a factor. However despite improve technology we are still all driving around on rubber tyres, which speaks volumes. Our advice is for high volume and heavy traffic is to choose from our range of solid EPDM rubber speed bumps and absorb the extra capital cost which will be balanced out over the longer service life. page 6

SIGNS FOR SPEED BUMPS Reflective warning signs gi ve drivers a clear messageto SLOW DOWN! Displaying the correct speed limit signs tell drivers how to drive over the speed bumps safely. We manufacture a wide range of traffic signs in many combinations. Manufactured to BS873 and current EU regulations, our signs use highly reflective signface class 1 highway approved material. Designed for a 15 year life: Our signfaces are all UV stable. Traffic signs can be clearly seen day or night and even in poor weather conditions. Ophthalmologists claim a driver s vision can be impaired for up to 30 seconds before their eyes adjust fully to changing light conditions. Post mounted aluminium reflective traffic signs are strengthened with channelling for use with posts and clips. Traffic steel posts have a tough plastic coating (as used on highways). Traffic signs can be fitted to existing posts and lighting columns using various size clips and stainless steel banding. Please state if signs are to be fixed back to back. For more product information and customer service please call 0121 446 4433. Photographs and illustrations 1. Reflective warning signs give a clear message. 2. Our range of traffic warning signs for speed control. Why use reflective traffic signs? It is an important safety feature that the driver can see the warning signs in all weather conditions, day or nightime 24/7. Are these the same signs as used on the highway? All the designs and layouts are similar to the DfT specifications. We offer a larger range of warning signs in a wide range of sizes to suit all off highway sites. The sign we need for our site is not shown! Contact our sales team with your enquiry for special signs. We use the latest digital printing CAD machines. Can I fax or email a sketch for a quote? We work from simple sketches faxed to 0121 446 4230 to detailed drawings. Once the sign layout and design is on our computer we can fax or email a proof for your approval. page 7

SPEED CUSHIONS All rubber speed cushions can be located in front of marked pedestrian crossing to creating a safer environment. Rubber speed cushions are highway approved, the greatest speed reduction is achieved with a 1.9m wide cushion whereas bus routes and most general applications. Simple and very fast installation the bolt down rubber speed cushions can be securely in position on the highway and working slowing down all types of traffic within a couple of hours. Our speed cushions giving the perfect profile for a 75mm high for any type of scheme on bituminous or concrete surfaces Developed from the experience gained in supplying over 20,000 cushions in the UK and Worldwide, Surface Units retain the proven features of through fixing with specially manufactured stainless steel coach screws, super tough nylon plugs and polyester resin. Steel sections reinforce the construction at either end of the cushion. Hard wearing white reflective arrow markings are pressure moulded during the manufacturing progress for extra visibility for aproaching traffic day and night 24/7. There is a wide choice of finished sizes of highway approved rubber speed cushions: 1.6M wide x 2.0M long 1.6M wide x 3.0M long 1.7M wide x 2.0M long 1.7M wide x 3.0M long 1.8M wide x 2.0M long 1.8M wide x 3.0M long 1.9M wide x 2.0M long 1.9M wide x 3.0M long 1.
