2.2 Intended use S.K.S. butterfly valve are only to be used as intended. Any use beyond that is considered to be improper use. S.K.S. is not liable for any resulting damages, the risk is solely with the operator. Requirement for perfect safe operation of the valve are proper transport and storage as well as professional set-up and assembly. Proper use also includes adherence to the requirements for operation, maintenance and repair. Unauthorised changes and modifications that impair the safety of the valve are not permitted. Only use original spare parts and accessories approved by the manufacturer. 2.3 Personnel The operating and maintenance personnel must be qualified for the work involved. They must receive special instruction about occurring dangers and must know and observe the safety instructions listed in the operating instructions. 2.4 General instructions The used is obliged to operate the valve in perfect condition only. Apart from the operating instructions, the following apply 3 Use and operating principle pertinent regulations on the prevention of accidents generally accepted safety-related rules company-internal operation and safety instructions. S.K.S. butterfly valves are used to open and close pipeline sections partially or completely. They mainly serve in pipelines, apparatus as well as tanks and containers. The butterfly valves are pressure-retaining equipment in the sense of the EC Directive 97/23/EC about pressure vessels. They are classified according to Annex II in Article 3, Paragraph 3 and may consequently not receive a CE marking. Rev.0 / 12.12.2009 Page 3 of 8 BA52290GB.doc
4 Transport and storage 4.1 Checking the delivery contents When you receive the butterfly valves, check the if the rated values match the order and delivery papers. Check that the delivery is complete, and check its condition. If there are visible signs of transit damage and/or packing units are missing notify the forwarding agent immediately in the consignment note. You (the recipient) should take recourse against the forwarding agent immediately in writing, and S.K.S. must be informed of this action. Complaints regarding transit damage that is not immediately evident must be made to the forwarding agent within 6 days. The recipient must bear the costs for claims made after this period. 4.2 Transport The packing units/valves must only be transported using suitable lifting equipment and slinging gear. Pay attention to the graphic symbols on the packaging. Transport the butterfly valve carefully to prevent damage from sudden impacts; exercise due care when loading/unloading. 5 Installation / disassembly / assembly 5.1 Installation Assemble the butterfly valve without tension into the pipeline system. The valve may only be assembled when depressurised. The butterfly valve may only be welded with welding stud in assembled state without gasket, flap and plug. Assembly only when cooled down and cleaned. The butterfly valve can be assembled in any position. After assembly, the butterfly valve has to be actuated manually or pneumatically. 5.2 Disassembly The valve may only be disassembled when depressurised. Figure 1 - Disassembly of butterfly valve scissor handle or pull handle Remove the plug (1,4) and turn out the screw (2) Remove the manual override apparatus (3.1 or 3.2) completely Loosen screws (5) and nuts (6) Pull apart the base body (7) Remove the valve flap (8) together with the gasket (9) Remove the gasket (9) from the valve flap (8) Rev.0 / 12.12.2009 Page 5 of 8 BA52290GB.doc

5.3 Assembly of the butterfly valve gasket Figure 3 - Assembly of the butterfly valve gasket Clean the valve flap (1) and grease the drilled holes of the gasket (2) slightly with a lubricant suitable for the process and the elastomer. Carefully push the valve flap (1) at the square side through an axle hole of the gasket, possibly with a suitable aid Clamp the valve flap (1) with gasket (2) attached at one side to the square, e.g. in a vise Turn the gasket (2) until it is at a 90 angle to the valve flap (1) Pull the gasket (2) with the free hole manually over the free end of the valve flap (1) Unclamp the valve flap (1) with the gasket (2) attached Assemble the valve flap with attached gasket into the butterfly valve is done in reverse order as disassembly (see 5.2) Rev.0 / 12.12.2009 Page 7 of 8 BA52290GB.doc
6 Repairs/Maintenance In order to ensure highest operational safety of the butterfly valves, all wear parts should be replaced at larger intervals. The maintenance intervals differ from case to case, the operator should define them by himself basing sporadic checks. S.K.S. cannot accept liability for claims made as a result of non-observance of these Operating Instructions or constructional changes to the BaseCom disc valve. Any other use or use outside the defined scope is considered to be improper use. S.K.S. will not accept liability for losses incurred as a result of improper use. 7 Cleaning Observe the safety data sheets of the cleaning agent manufacturer! Only use cleaning agents that do not affect stainless steel and plastics. Clean individual parts thoroughly 8 Technical Data Size: DN25-100 Material: 1.4301/1.4307 - AISI 304/304L (in contact with product) 1.4404 - AISI 316L (in contact with product) Gaskets: VMQ, EPDM, FKM (more materials upon request) Max. operating pressure: 10 bar Max. operating temp.: depending on the gasket material Ambient temperature valve: 0 C to +50 C Control air pressure: min. 4.8 bar / max. 8 bar Control air: Solid content : quality class 6 (according to ISO 8573-1) Water content: quality class 4 (according to ISO 8573-1) Oil content: quality class 3 (according to ISO 8573-1) Air consumption: 2 to 3.8 l per stroke Rev.0 / 12.12.2009 Page 8 of 8 BA52290GB.doc
